Manik & Nandini - Stars & Fireflies 24
Next morning Manik woke up early and was doing rounds of kitchen.. Every servant in Malhotra mansion was surprised to see Manik near the kitchen...Reason DJ was in kitchen and some sweet smell was coming.. "So what have you cooked?" Manik asked as soon as she came out.. "Why are you so curious?? You don't like sweets especially Indian ones.." DJ asked and called for driver.. "Why driver DJ I will drop you na.." Manik said.. "Manik I'm not going anywhere I am calling him to send these gulab jamuns to Nandini.." DJ clarified.. "Arre but why driver? I will do it..." Manik replied.. "You.." DJ checked his forehead as he asked "Are you ok?" "Uffo DJ.." Manik removed her hands "I mean what will they think if you send it with driver especially chachi.." Manik covered up.. "Ohh chachi ka bada khayal hai tumhein kya baat hai Manik Malhotra?" DJ winked.. "Please DJ.." Manik snatched the sweet box and walked off.. "What will chachi think.." DJ laughed as she repeated...
She knew that Manik was still a innocent kid its just that his situations made him grow up before his age and took his smile away...She went in front of his grand pa's pic and stood there. It was her favourite pic as it had a three year old Manik playing in his grand pa's lap and smiling and laughing...Soon his grandpa died and everything changed in Malhotra Mansion..Despite having parents Manik lived an orphaned life as his dad was too busy flirting with other women and his mom in other men.. DJ had to step in to step into business to save the empire built by her husband leaving a young Manik alone..Whenever she could she always spent time with him but that was not enough to stop Manik from being bitter and dark...But now with Nandini around she saw the glimpses of that three year old Manik...
Soon Manik pulled out in front of Nandini's house.. Chachi welcomed him warmly him and directed him to Nandini's room.. Manik entered with the sweets boxes and a bouquet of roses.. As soon as he went in he saw Dhruv there sitting and chatting with Nandini and his smile vanished... "Arre Manik.." Dhruv said and Nandini looked upto to him with a smile.. "What are doing here?" Manik asked Dhruv with a lots of anger.. "Umm I just came to see Nandini.." Dhruv replied..Manik gave Nandini the box of sweets and bouquet and said to Dhruv "aren't we getting late Dhruv? We should leave.." "Yes Dhruv you should not miss college cause me.." Nandini also insisted irritating Manik even more...
Soon Manik and Dhruv drove off with Manik being in a bad mood.. He just couldn't see Nandini laughing and being with Dhruv.. The flashes of freshers night dance kept disturbing him through out but since Dhruv was his best friend he just couldn't do anything.. Soon they reached college Manik walked straight into the Fab5 mjam room and started playing leaving everyone confused.. As it would happen DJ passed by and saw Manik in a angry mood and asked Cabir to step out.. "Partner what happened to him?" She asked Cabir.. "Pata nahi jab se college aaya hai gusse mein hai..Kal raat toh theek tha.." Cabir replied.. "Kal raat ****o he was awesome in the morning.." DJ said.. Soon Dhruv walked out seeing DJ.. "Hello DJ" he hugged her.. "Dhruv what happened to your buddy.." DJ asked.. "I don't know he came to Nandini's house and was angry.. you sent him zabardasti na.." Dhruv said.. "Nandini's house.." DJ and Cabir asked unison.. "What were you doing there?" DJ asked
"I went to see her.." Dhruv replied... "Damn idiot.." DJ mumbled..Cabir gave her the "DJ he's our friend.." DJ gave him the look "manik is my grandson and no one is allowed in his love story.." and walked off... "Uff yeh partner bhi na bachoon se kam nahi hai.." Cabir said.. The whole day Manik was in a grumpy mood.. Everyone tried everything until late in the afternoon a text came.. "Ladoo gulab jamuns are awesome.. Mam ko thanks bolna and you too for bringing them.." Read the text...It brought an immediate smile on ladoo's face; it was Nandini's text... Manik came running to DJ and said "Nandini ne thanks bola.." "Acha.." DJ asked seeing his happy face and walked off..
Everyone was surprised to see Manik's turnaround.. Alya took the opportunity to ask him to take her to an ice cream parlour at Juhu beach and since Manik was very happy he agreed.. Soon the evening dawned upon and Manik and Alya went for Alya's version of "date".. Though it was too cheesy for her taste but to get Manik back she could do anything.. As soon as they walked in Alya choose a cozy corner and settled in and ordered a Rocky Road and since Manik didn't like sweets he didn't order anything...Soon Alya and Manik settled down and Alya was rambling something but Manik was lost in thoughts of Nandini and their text convo last night and a small smile played on his lips..
"Manik.." a voice disturbed his thoughts...It was Dhruv with a large tray of ice cremes.. "arre Dhruv" Alya asked.. "What are you doing here.." "Nandini.." and he pointed towards her and soon both Manik and Alya's expressions changed for entirely different reasons.. "She was getting bored so I promised her to take out for ice creme outing...She loves sweets and see she ordered all the flavours.." Dhruv said.."Why don't you guys join us?" Dhruv asked... Alya trying to avoid them said "No we.." but Manik cut her and said "We would love to" and got up... Alya had no option but to follow him..
Soon Manik and Alya joined Nandini.. Nandini became a little uncomfortable with Alya and both Dhruv and Manik knew it.. "So Nandini what's the logic behind all the flavors.." Dhruv asked... "Dhruv ice creme is like our life..We keep thinking at the moment passes away and similarly we keep thinking away which flavor to eat and it melts.. Nandini said... "So we should enjoy every minute of life and every flavor of ice creme.." She concluded...
"How tacky.." Alya said and Manik gave her an angry look watching Nandini's smile vanish... Alya too wasn't in the mood to sit there "Let's go Manik somewhere for dinner..Some nice fancy restaurant.." She got up.. "Dhruv drop me home please I am tired and not feeling well.." Nandini too wanted to avoid Alya.. "Sure.." Dhruv held her hand and wrapped her other hand around her shoulder.. Nandini walked off with a sad face looking at Manik who stood there helpless.. As soon as Dhruv and Nandini left Manik and Alya had a big show down and Manik left a crying Alya at the ice creme parlour...
DJ was in Manik's room asking the servants to clean it up and she was personally supervising it as Manik didn't like anyone other then her touching his stuff...Manik walked in angrily and shouted "Out.."... Every servant walked out and it was DJ and Manik alone.. "What happened?" She asked.. "Nothing DJ leave me alone.." Manik insisted but DJ being DJ she didn't... "Manik.." She caressed his face and calmed him down.. Manik narrated the entire incident of ice creme parlour to her.. She assured Manik and said "Dhruv is just her friend.." "Haan to friends kya wrap their hands around you? He never did that for Mukti or Alya.." a visibly jealous Manik said.. "Well agar friend injured ho to zaroor..Nandini can't walk remember.." She reasoned and calmed him down.. Soon she put him to sleep... She went out and thought "Yeh Dhruv ka kuch karna padega.." and suddenly her genius mind got a brilliant idea and she smiled...
