13th - That moment when you talk the show.
Very interesting take on Nandu's tangibles , I kind of agree with you but the problem is even her contemplation as one-sided it is, will annoy the trp audience if what she believes is different from what they see from their 3-D view. Like the first time she decided to leave Mangalore- everything about that decision was justified. But her fears, even when she monologues didn't register. But I know they will never give her someone to talk to if Manik is around as it breaks the MaNan trope. Sigh. But that is how it works. As long as they give her bonds, superficial or something like she had with Navya recently , it will work. It's the cluttering of her views amidst zillion of Manik's conflict. It's never her angst vs a completely blank Manik . That is hard because that renders Manik boring to few, completely calm, peaceful which impacts the tone of the show. But don't over-complicate his conflict by a sob, past angsty stuff. Give him some silly Music rivalry with harshad.
With Soha the impact couldn't be there simply because she was not wrong. The whole incident didn't undermine her own judgment. Her self was not questioned. Here with Pandit , there is direct failure of her perspective towards life and it threatens the self . This is as much as we protest started by Pandit's constant criticism of Nandu right from the time he threw her out of the class for coming late. You could see Nandu failing on one of her life principles and it goaded her. Since then the power imbalance was established and now that she saw the whole Pandit thing backfiring . She feels stupid, foolish , lost - her sense of judgement which she prided is lost. Liked what she told Manik- she doesn't know , she was the one who told everyone to be careful but here she fell for it. Guilt, self-berating and hate for what she sees in herself. The emotional trauma is huge.
^^ This played on-screen but because Manik's angst is too visible through his friends , they always overpower Nandu's struggle.
Nope don't want Mangalore track or her past right now. because that will again give zillion externals for Manik's angst. And we have had enough of it . Give the boy some break. Rather if ever, this time should be used to open up Nandu, make her talk family, through Manik's constant struggles to get through to her , I want Nandu to confine what she believed, why she is lost and stuff like that .
They better not undermine it by throwing an excuse for audience to hate Nandu more by letting her leave Manik and others without informing or something. That just undermines the whole track.
Did you just talk nerd with friction and displacement? I love you, kay.
But word with everything. For 70 odd episodes Nandu was real, perfect- conflict free, No angst . There was nothing to explore more about her vulnerabilities but it all started when she met Manik, her relationship has changed her .. Made her more aware of the world, herself, her own fears. She never had her life principles tested like this and this brings the fallacy of her idealized version of the world. It's true her conflict plays through her relationship and she seems to play off his angst while in reality the sub-text is all about her. As much as we resent the Hope, her optimism , she needed his view of the dark, cruel real world which she has been protected for long. Through Manik, she understands that sometimes circumstances supersede. As much as we mocked her for saying that Manik was not wrong as a friend when he left her during Musicana but isn't that perception of us the audience too which is why we understood his decision that night. Same is with her hope, now with this incident there would be a bit of cynicism , more depth .
Her angst had to be angst because everything else is so connected to Manik. Nandu needs Patience, some good conversations for viewers to get through her head. More about her through Manik, if need be.
Dude, Manik is such a well-written character, at times at the expense of Nandu and others but there is no denying he is a dream sketch. Not only you give him traits enough to base it to tangibles events like his give-take with Nyo, or his selflessness through Dhruv , his loyalty-fab5. But by teasing those bonds, they play his tracks and growth .
Yet even though the boy has finally understood that it's love , no give and take, so he dropped all guards and have struggled to stop Nandu's break-down , yet they gave a hint of his self when he used that egg- and told Nandu to bully him like he did to start fresh. So in sync.
Trouble is earlier they played a lot of his traits against Nandini and Harshad and viewers tend to use them as benchmark and think thats how he should deal with others or externals which is wrong because the canvas, the circumstances are always different.
I liked how they have eased his anger- yet the constant death threats against Pandit retains his old sketch while having him smart over his anger when the need be. Or his impulse , patience with handling Nandu.
His biggest arc was he used to internalize everything Nandu told him remember how she told him to embrace change after the hug scene . He played it with Cabir and when he told DHruv that he is moving on. He always internalized Nandu's words because they showed him a better more effective way of dealing with situations. He saw how his own anger, impulse cost him so many times , the most precious thing. Even the way he loves Nandu , there is so much joy because he values it, you know why and how important this love is to him. In these months- he saw his friends go through hell , heck his life has changed, the whole fallacy of their MO is exposed. They have all moved on . They really cannot be the same people.
I adore the boy , because his change is so gradual . Mostly on desi tv- they play the dark shades of ML in the most contriving , dysfunctional manner especially while setting a love story. There is a reason why I love Manik more now- because this boy has matured, got that balance and even when he makes mistakes , he has got a good handle to it, this sets him apart .
You and I both were while frustrated at how they handled Nandu during FC , there was no denying that they transitioned Manik so perfectly. Now when he says he ILU to Nandu when she is at the rock bottom, we feel the impact of those words. Or to the words he used to describe Nandu - he said all that because we as audience knows that he really does appreciate those qualities and when he sells hope, you know the boy has started believing in good/light. This doesn't mean he is white-washed, nah that can be referenced to how he tells Nandu that the problems start now or to Cabir when he says that he has been to the dark place. You can see the contrast in him analyzing the situation. Rarely they give ML such dialogues .
Did I mention I love a ML who knows his own change and the reason for it. Nandu brought in a fresh perspective and that has made him look at himself and his choices differently. Sigh , boy is a dream role.
Change is the thing, while some feel Nandu is one-dimensional/consistent, not denying it but that was because she never hit the dark space that every other character has been through. Manik could change because he could see a different perspective. Now Nandu's new perspective would be interesting. It shouldn't be too cynical but it should make her "strong".
I really wish they don't over-complicate or overcrowd the tracks right now. No adults. Keep it simple. Play off Nandu , let her talk more. Keep them as a unit- don't break the tropes. Rest be fine.
P.S. I love you too.
