Chapter 5

Soft, melodious, soothing and absolutely spellbounding music redeemed the girls hostel of SMC from daily chaotic and ear shattering noise, as Nandini stood in the common room singing before the audience comprising all the girls of hostel,freshers as well as seniors.Nandini s voice instantly garnered her high points from the seniors, who made it point to organize a display of her talent at every given opportunity .After coming back from the college tired, Nandini was made to sing by the seniors,who were enjoying a relaxing vacation. Nandini was more than happy to oblige as music made all her tiredness fly away.But now,she was desparately praying to be free from this audience,so that she is saved from missing second day at space as well.Her prayers were answered in seconds ,as the seniors finally ended this little concert' and went to their respective rooms.Nandini quickly got ready and left the hostel, successfully escaping Poorva's never ending rants.

Using her first day experience, Nandini quickly crossed the road and reached Space without any obstacle.Nandini stopped at the entrance to take in the place which would mark her journey towards her dream. Feeling pleasantly overwhelmed, Nandini stepped further admiring the artistic effect visible in every corner of the beautifully designed building. She asked a peon ,directions for her class and made her way towards the same. Excited,happy and little nervous Nandini was going to her class when she saw two boys sitting on the floor with their hands injured.their faces were enough for anyone to know the pain they were experiencing ,physical as well as emotional.They were beating the floor with their reddened hands and many other students were standing there laughing. Unable to see anyone in pain ,Nandini rushed to help them.

"Oh my god,what are you guys doing?Look at your hands,they are badly injured. Stop hurting them further."Nandini instructed them taking out an ointment from her bag.She wasn't able to understand what was going on there but she only wanted to help these boys in pain.The boys were shocked to find someone helping them.They couldn't say anything when Nandini started applying ointment to their hands.Feeling relief in their throbbing hands as a result of ointment as well as the girl's soothing aura,the boys could only stare at this girl who dared to come to their rescue.Nandini was applying ointment while she heard a voice behind her.

"Oh Mother Teressa, if you are done serving the helpless people,make your way ahead unless you wanna become helpless yourself." Nandini looked back angrily to see a boy standing in front of her with an ego higher than the Everest.

"What do you mean ?Oh so you are the one who's making these guys do this stupid,silly thing.Do you know this is called ragging which is illegal.You can get punished for it,if they complain to the authorities ."Nandini said in a warning tone now understanding what actually was going on.

"My dear Teressa going all Jhansi ki Rani ,huh? Oh I'm scared.Okay go complain to the authorities'.Go ,Go.The boy said menacingly.He held her hand in a death grip and threatened her.

"Listen, you don't know me.I'm Harshad Chauhan,son of Pradyumna Chauhan.I am sure you know him, the trustee of this academy.So go complain to anyone you want,Nothing is going to happen to me.You better stay out of it and stop playing Mother Teressa otherwise no one will come to help you,understand?" Nandini was about to cry due to pain shooting through her hand and Harshad's rude and disgusting behavior, when another voice boomed behind them.

"You've already been graced by the presence of Mother Teressa, now leave the girl's hand and don't make me go all Bhagat Singh, Harshad!!!!"came a sarcastic and equally threating voice which made Harshad release Nandini instantly.

"You better stay out of it, Cabir" Harshad said not so strongly.

"Stop bullying people and I'll stay away and don't you dare do anything against this girl or any other girl or boy.I'm warning you."Cabir replied rather harshly.Harshad was a bully of the college and using advantage of being trustee's son,he tried to keep an upper hand on all the students.No one dared to stand against him and at the moment he was making two boys learning classical instruments play the floor as tabla.They knew Harshad's mean ways and couldn't stand against them.They were thankful to Nandini and now Cabir who saved them from that jerk.Cabir and Harshad were perpetual rivals of Space.Cabir's dad was a co trustee holding equal position as that of Harshad's dad. Cabir being everyone's favourite and stronger than Harshad always managed to show him his place.He saved many students from being tortured by Harshad.He himself was a prankster but his pranks were always harmless.He was impressed by Nandini to have guts to stand against wrong and her helpful attitude and absolutely angelic aura.

"Hey!!! Are you alright?Don't worry the Gabbar Singh isn't going to harm you now that I'm here."Cabir said softly and playfully making Nandini feel comfort and warm.

"Yeah I,m fine.Thank you."Nandini replied as soft as ever.

"that's good.By the way I'm Cabir Sehgal ,second year bachelor's student and super pleased to meet you miss???"Cabir introduced himself walking with Nandini to her class.

"Nandini Vashishth .I'm part time music course student and nice to meet you too Cabir."Nandini supplied.

" So you are a fresher?"Cabir asked and Nandini nodded positively.

"Well your class is here.Have an awesome day,happy learning and see you soon."Cabir said cheerfully indicating towards her class.

"Thank you and have a nice day.Bye."Replied Nandini and moved to her class.

"May I get in sir?"Nandini asked the teacher who was already there in the class.She became late due to the Harshad fiasco.

"You are late miss.Come in for now but take care next time.Don't be late again."The teacher allowed her in but not before warning her.Nandini nodded getting nervous to see all the students staring at her.Neverthless she made her way into the class looking down to avoid the stares unknown to a pair of dreamy eyes, following her every movement.Those eyes belonged to none other than Manik Malhotra.Manik was surprised to see Nandini there, would be an understatement.He felt like he is dreaming seeing Nandini walking inside his classroom wearing white looking no less than a fairy.Nandini was looking for an empty seat when a girl put her leg in between to make Nandini fall on the floor.Nandini did fall but not on the floor.She directly landed in Manik's lap who was sitting in the corner.Nandini opened her closed scared eyes to find Manik holding her in his lap.Nandini first of all sighed a breath of relief for not falling on the ground and as soon as she realized the akward fall of hers, she jumped from Manik's lap going red in embarrassment.

"You're already late miss and now you're not able to even walk properly.Be careful and take your seat quickly."the teacher's stern voice made Nandini gulp with nervousness and embarrassment .

"Come sit here" Manik offered her to sit next to him where there was an empty seat.Nandini quickly took the seat and mouthed him a thank you.Manik nodded smiling and focused back towards the teacher but his mind was busy absorbing the fact that Nandini was there as his classmate.His mind was clouded by many questions but he couldn't be more thankful for the given arrangement.Here Nandini was also busy going through similar thoughts.Finally both paid their attention toward the class.They both missed the introductory classes but the actual lessons started today.Their first class was Elements of Indian classical music.Nandini was more inclined towards Indian music but she wanted to explore all kinds of music.Manik loved all kinds of music but he was more into rock.However both were enjoying their first music class and their company for each other made it more pleasant.
