It was a chilly morning in New York. But neither the bustling streets nor the chattering of people could disturb the sleep of a girl who was snuggled in her blanket. Although she was awake she was lazy to get out of the bed. It seemed as if she was waiting for something as she opened her eyes again and again checking her phone. And finally when the phone rang she picked it up in one ring. She got up with a jerk; a happy and content smile on her face. The person on the other side was greeted with her scolding.

"How could you call so late, I have been waiting."

On the other side of the phone miles away stood a boy who did not get angry with her scolding but rather smiled and nodded his head.

"Good Morning Nandini..."

The girl just sighed and then said

"Manik"

Manik: what Manik...The meeting just got over...In fact It's not even over...I took a short break...

Nandini: Aww...So much of pain just for me...

Manik: what do I do...I have this girl friend of mine who gets cranky if she does not hear my voice first when she wakes up...Immature she is

Nandini: Really...poor boy...How did you survive with her for so many years...?

Manik: don't worry...Now it's a habit to wake her up every morning ...you know for the past 7 years...she stays far away from me...

Nandini: she's been away from you for 7 years and so much of loyalty...

Manik: what do I do...she's a single piece in my life and can rip me apart if I eye someone other than her.

Nandini: sad life...

Manik: indeed...

Nandini: Don't worry I will see you soon...

Manik: Ok listen I need to go...The meeting is about to resume again...You take care...

Nandini: hmm...

Manik: and yes please have your breakfast or Sambhavi will call and shout at me saying I kept you busy all morning...

Nandini chuckled...

Nandini: All the best for the meeting...

Nandini: bye

Nandini: I know...

Nandini kept the phone .She looked at the time on the phone and the guy who was on the wall paper. She looked at him and talked.

Nandini: Manik Malhotra...Always in hurry...And now even more busy...You forgot...

But this boy always proved her wrong as soon her cell phone vibrated indicating a message.

I never forget.

1 day to go ...Can't wait to see you...

Nandini blushed. When it comes to Manik Malhotra she is always wrong. He was the most unpredictable guy she had ever met. Be it landing up at her graduation day unexpectedly or making it a point to always be there on his birthday with her for the past 7 years. Not only on his birthday, in fact was Manik there on her birthday as well. But he was never there on Valentines or their anniversary as he felt that just one day was not enough for him to show his love towards her. Manik never failed to impress her. The physical distance between them had only played as a catalyst to strengthen their bond which included lots of fights, tantrums and yes of course BREAKS.

She got up from the bed and from her window looked at the busy streets. Every person had a purpose there. But she might be the first person who was here just because of the faith Manik had on her that she could do it. And he was right. She had not let his belief fail. She had accomplished what she came here for. And tomorrow she was going back to India where her family, friends stayed. Where her heart belonged to.

Manik on the other side was handling a meeting. The person with whom he had meeting was late. But Manik had stayed calm and forgiven him for once as he wanted to start and end the meeting as soon as possible. The meeting for which Nyonika was eating his head ten times a day.

Nyonika his mother, the witch.

Manik still felt that she is a witch but the only change that had happened in their relation was now they talked. No personal talks but professional talks. Talks about business and to his surprise Nyonika and his views matched perfectly in the professional field. Probably the only place where they seemed actually like mother son duo.

Manik was closing his eyes resting his head on the chair; listening to the demands of this company. With his eyes closed and playing with his phone everyone thought he was not interested but he was attentive and listening to everything being told by each ember. Manik suddenly stopped playing and straightened up and faced Nyonika who was sitting exactly opposite of him.

Manik: Mr. Sahni...

The person stopped immediately and looked towards Manik.

Manik: Thank you...Your demands are perfectly alright but...

Mr. Sahni: Mr. Malhotra.

Manik raised his hands and looked up to him.

Manik: When you spoke I listened without any interruption and when I speak I expect you will do the same.

The person stayed silent.

Manik: Better...So...Your demands are perfectly alright with me but Nyonika feels you are being given too much than what you give us back. The quality of the products we purchase from you is something which even I am really not happy of. And then when you are given your payments and ample time to deliver it why is there lack in quality...So I did not sanction the cheque this time for your payment request because I am not happy with your work...If I am not happy, the customers will definitely not approve of it. And I can't let you spoil my reputation...So you have two choices

1. Either you take this payment quietly and complete your work in time perfectly

2. Or you take the money I am giving your company and sell it to me.

Manik got up from the chair and then said

Manik: Only in business everything is GIVE AND TAKE...I know you want to argue and talk...And I would have listened more to you, had you come on time...But I am late so now I leave you with two choices. Take the details with my secretary. The meeting is over

With that Manik came out of the cabin and waited to be greeted by Nyonika.

Nyonika: Impressive...

Manik: Sometimes manipulation does not work. Leaving no option for the other person is a better idea.

Nyonika: hmm...

Manik: Seems you are getting old. Why don't you retire...?

Nyonika: come on Manik...My strategy never fails...

Manik: Anyways I am not listening. Your meeting is over. I have checked the files. The secretary will give it to you. I am off for practicing music so please don't call me.

Nyonika stood there amused when Manik returned.

Manik: you can text me if something is urgent. And have your dinner. I will be late.

With that Manik walked off. He took off his coat, rolled the sleeves of his shirt and loosened his tie a bit. He then got into his car and drove off straight to a secluded place with only a farmhouse present. The guards opened the door after his honking only to see two cars already parked there.

Manik: shit I'm late

He hurriedly got out of the car throwing the keys to the guard and rushed up to the terrace. And there were his friends waiting for him. Cabir had put his heads on the drums while Mukti was leaning on her guitar sitting on the stool. Alya and Dhruv were having their own private moment some distance away. As soon as Manik reached their Cabir got up in delight.

Cabir: Manik Malhotra is here. Finally...

Manik nodded his head and said

Manik: Finally.

Cabir hugged Manik and said

Manik: How are you? It's been 5 long days since I met you...How was the trip? And the meeting

Mukti: Cabir at last don't talk about Manik's business here...

Manik: yes Cabir...Or what is the counselor Mukti Vardhan going to lecture us on...

Mukti: ya right...

Mukti playfully hit Manik on his shoulder.

Cabir: where...where are the love birds...

Alya: I am just here...Hey Manik...

Alya hugged Manik and so did Dhruv.

Mukti: sometimes Manik...I feel Sambhavi ma'am did the right decision by sending Nandini away or else Cabir and I would go mad watching two couples romance...

Cabir: Our versions of romantic movies...

Dhruv smacked Cabir on his head while Manik encircled both his arms around Mukti and Alya.

Cabir: Wow wows...Professor Dhruv...Bad manners...What will you teach your students...

Manik: ok stop fighting...We meet once in a week to practice our music and we fight...

Dhruv: that because we meet other days just to catch up on our daily life...And that's a really short meeting...

Alya: all thanks to my brilliant idea that we should meet once in a day and practice music once a week...

Cabir: yah yah Ms fashion designer...All the brains in the world are with you...

Alya: No Mr. DJ...

Cabir: yah...Because you all catch up on my pub for a drink and that's why we meet...

Mukti: guys...chill...We meet because of our bond...our friendship...

Cabir: why on earth did you speak...Now your 1 hours lecture...

Manik: phew...people...Calm down...We meet because we can't stay without each other...We need to see each other once...

Dhruv: thanks buddy...You are a life savior...I could not have handled their fights...

Cabir: sometimes I wonder how Manik and Nandini stayed away...7 long years...

Alya: but the good thing is she is coming back...

Mukti: tomorrow...

Manik smiled and sat on a chair.

MAnik: guys can we practice...please...the album...it's due next month...

Mukti: Manik...seriously you are worried about album...We should do preparations to welcome her...

Dhruv: yah Manik...She is coming back after so long...

Manik smiled hopelessly.

Alya: Aww...he's blushing...

Cabir: guys you seriously think...Manik Majnu Malhotra...has not done any preparations to welcome his life after so long...

Their conversations were interrupted by a text notification from Nyonika.

Meeting at 10 tomorrow. Please be there...I need you.

Manik replied.

Alright. I agree because you NEED me.

Manik came back and said

Manik: guys let's just practice and wrap it up...

He head towards the mike when Mukti pulled him and made his sit on a chair.

Mukti: Manik ...Manik...Just wait...What's the rush

ALya: exactly...If we want we can make music in an hour...

Manik: yes we can if only we WANT...but you guys are not being serious...every time we meet up we are just pulling legs...So let's just do this please...And however I and Nandini are not love struck teenager to have mushy conversation on the phone all the time...

Cabir: seriously...

Manik: I mean we do have conversation but it's not every time about love...We discuss everything...Nandini and my relation is more of companionship and understanding...that's what I have discovered and believed in all these years of staying apart...

Mukti; but

Manik: no ifs and buts...You guys will never finish because this is your favorite topic...Lets just do this...Procrastination is a crime...

They nodded their heads and everyone took their places. After 2 hours of continuous practice- all thanks to Manik's focused behavior; they retired to their places.

As soon as Manik reached home. He called Nandini after freshening himself. But she cut his call. He did not try again as this was a sign that she was busy and would call him. He waited and his cell phone beeped with a message from Nandini...

Boarded the flight...So excited ...I am coming back in your life...

Manik smiled at this gesture and replied.

You never left my life...Come soon...Be safe...

Manik Malhotra woke up the next day with a content smile on his face. He smiled. He smiled more often but today the reason of his smile was coming back. They had met for the past years. It's not that he did not see her at all but this feeling was something different.

It was different because Nandini was coming back to be there always. They would be together now. No barriers of physical topography or time difference...His life would be how he had always wished for. He would be loved. And this love would be shown in front of everyone. The last time he had to hide from Fab 5...fear from Nyonika...

But now he was Manik Malhotra...He had this surname before as well...But now he had earned it...He was reputed business man and it was not because he was born with a silver spoon...It was because he had worked hard for this...He was worthy for her..He had kept his promise to her...He had become capable for Nandini...Along with his passion for music he had taken Malhotra industries to new heights...Something that even Nyonika was impressed of...Something he was proud of...

...Now nothing ...nothing could keep him apart...She was coming to be his...

He reached his office properly dressed up on time. With his shades on he walked into his cabin and on the way all the staff greeted him. All the ladies would just go crazy over him and that made the men jealous. Manik knew everything but he just smirked and walked into his cabin acting oblivious of the things. As soon as he reached cabin he called Nyonika.

Manik: where are you? The meeting is about to begin in 10 minutes...

Nyonika: which meeting...

Manic: I am really not in a mood for a joke Nyonika...You texted me last night...Meeting at 10...

Nyonika: yah I did...There is a meeting...

Manik: so where are you?

Nyonika: The meeting is at 10 pm...

Manik: Are you kidding me? You know Nandini is coming back today...

Nyonika: I know...So I texted you yesterday itself...And you agreed...Now you can't back off...

Manik: you always do it...

Nyonika: Learn to prioritize Manik...You still need to grow up...

Manik was angry. He cut the phone. He barged out of the cabin and went to the top most floors and inside a small room. He took out his guitar and started playing slowly and calmed his mind. He played his guitar while Nandini words were ringing in his minds.

"Please Manik; Make this venture successful...for me"

"Your music is your passion, work is your duty but I am your habit".

"You don't need to react all the time, sometimes you can just turn your back".

"When you do the right thing nobody will ask for explanation because your work speaks for you"

"Don't ever leave an opportunity because of me as I am always there is your life. That chance may not come twice"

"Never let people blame our love as your weakness"

"Make me proud Manik, I know you will"

"I love you, HUMESHA"

He remembered all his moments while strumming the guitar. After finally finding peace he texted Nyonika.

I will be there at 10. Make sure to keep the meeting for only half an hour.

"Thank you for boarding our flight. We wish you a safe stay in India."

The air hostess was announincing something but Nandini was busy switching her phone on. She had finally reached. She looked at her watch. It was 10 minutes to 10 pm.

She sighed.

Nandini: Finally back...

She was smiling when her phone buzzed with a meesage.It was from Manik. She excitedly looked at it but her face fell.

I am sorry. I will be slightly late. Please wait at the lounge. I will keep my promise.

She got out of the plane and completed the formalities. She waited for 10 minutes but no one turned up to pick her. She waited but did not call Manik. Because she knew Manik always keeps his promises. She did not call him as she did not want him to leave his work incomplete and come running for her although somewhere she felt bad about it.

To be honest; She was feeling neglected.

All these thought were interrupted with a phone call. She excitedly picked up thinking it was Manik but it was Cabir.

Cabir: hmm...SO Nandini Moorthy is back...I know I called late...But then I thought...you might be getting cozy with your boyfriend...

Nandini stayed silent.

Cabir: whets wrong? Nadnini...Don't tell me you guys fought...Where's Manik

Nandini: Manik has not come to pick me...

Cabir: what...are you kidding me?

Nandini: he texted me that he would be late...

Cabir: and you believed...He must be playing a prank on you...Just go out and wait...He must be there hiding...You know Manik...

Nandini: I know...SO I am saying...Manik is really serious and dedicated towards his work...

Cabir: relax...He must be joking...You go out and see...I will call you in a bit...If he's not there I am calling him right away...

Cabir did not listen to Nandini and kept the hone. Nandini went out to find no one. She felt sad. But she had to inform Maasi. So she texted Sambhavi that she reached. She had just finished doing that when she got a call from Mukti again.

Mukti: Nandini don't worry...We are coming right away to pick you up...I don't know how Manik made you wait...

Nandini: guys he must be stuck...He will never do that...

Alya: we know that you know Manik better than us...But trust me Nandini...If Manik gets indulged in a meeting...He forgets everything...He will take 4-5 hours...

Nandini: He has promised me...

Nandini kept the hope and looked at Manik's picture on her cell phone.

NAndini heard car honking and thought it was Manik but it was Fab 5there; waving at her. She felt hopeless and took a glance at her phone and walked towards them when a shining black car stopped in between. Nandini had nearly fallen down. She got angry and was ready to scold the person but she was glad seeing him. From the car came out a tired Manik who ran to her and hugged her tightly. She reciprocated back. He hugged her to never let go. He was blabbering...

Manik: I am so sorry...so sorry...

He then withdrawed and looked at her.

Manik: you did not get hurt did you?

All this while Nandini was just looking at Manik. With tears in her eys.She was just adoring him whileManik cupped her face and said.

Manik: what...

Nandini: I thought...I came second in your list...

Manik: I had promised you...I know I am late...but BETTER LATE THAN NEVER...And I can make up for being late...I never break my promise

Cabir: what promise did you make...Let us also hear...?

Manik turned to find Fab 5 standing there. Nandini smiled with tears in her eyes...

Nandini: I wanted Manik to be the first person I see when I am back...

Alya: Aww...And she believed your promise...

Dhruv: yah we thought you would not come so we came to pick her up...

Mukti: now come hug us, won't you...

Manik: No chance...Let me hug her once more...

Cabir: Let's go home guys...Manik will bring her there...We don't want to get embarrassed seeing them...

Manik: Cabir you are awesome...Please...do that last favor on me...

Mukti: Such cheesiness Manik...We understand...

Alya: Carry on...

Fab 5 got into the jeep and teased Manik and Nandini and went back. With that Manik hugged her again and Nandini did the same while others looked lovingly at this couple.

Nandini: Manik...everyone's watching us...We are at the parking

Manik: I don't care...I missed you so much...

Nandini: I missed you more...

Manik: you felt I neglected you; didn't you...

NAndini: hmm...but something in my heart kept me saying you would come...

Manik: what was that...?

Nandini: a feeling...I would die but not doubt your promise...

Manik: Never ever say that...

With that Manik bend on his knees and took out a ring and said...

Manik: So Nandi Moorthy...Today I Manik ...with all my love just wants to say one thing to you...I want to grow old with you...Live with you...have kids...enjoy moments...have fights...And love you...I know I don't know about our physics but trust me have awesome chemistry enough for the biology...And I tried this new way to impress my scientist girlfriend but..

Nandini: but you will...You did...You never fail to express your love to me...You love me and I love you for the fact that you are honest about yourself to me...

Manik stayed silent still on his knees. While Nandini although knowing everything acted clueless.

Manik: let's not waste time...I will come directly to the point...Will you marry me...Now that I have become what you always wanted me to be?

Nandini decided to trouble him so she nodded...

Nanina: umm...You were late...Had you come at 10 exactly...I would have...

But Manik did not let her complete and just put the ring...

With that she ruffled his hair.

Manik encircled his hands around her waist while she did that around his shoulders.

Nandini: see...I am perfect in height with you as well...

Manik: because you are wearing six inches heel...

Nandini: Because I want to be perfect with you...

Manik kissed her forehead and said...

Nandini kissed his cheek and said.

They rested their foreheads together and smiled rejoicing their togetherness and the clock stroked midnight alarming everyone. But for Manik and Nandini it was a new milestone to their love story...
