Oh no! After raising my hopes about KS never quite accepting Gnarly Gnome Prithvi because her heart will never be free of AK, she tells AK to his face that she is done destroying him, she has fulfilled her vow. She also says that as she goes forward in life, she will not look back at the past and that includes him. Then she walks up to Prithvi and tells him that she is now ready to give him an answer to his proposal of marriage and that the answer is yes.
(I really don't have the heart to write this, but I thought that I should tell the story for the anxious-to-know.)
First set opens with Prithvi on the phone with the police, chasing the problem of who it was that attacked KS the previous night. He wants the culprit to be found. He turns from this call to meet his broker, who tells him that they own 40% of the Khanna company. Prithvi is pleased and asks the broker to continue buying up more shares. The chap says that the market has dried up and there are no more shares to be had. Prithvi gets mad - he wants to get controlling interest in the Khanna company, no matter the cost! (So, this is what Pritvhi does best - be the hard-nosed businessman.) As Prithvi is giving these orders to get the next 11% by hook or crook, we see Josh! He overhears what Prithvi is doing, and becomes VERY thoughtful. Cut to:
Naina's office where Karthik and she are worrying about a potential hostile takeover attempt on their company. They wonder who could be buying up their shares, when Dilip walks in with the answer "PK Enterprises". But none of them know who the owners of PKE are. Naina orders them to find out. She also orders a board meeting so that their majority shareholders can be persuaded not to sell their shares. Cut to:
Josh in AK's room, telling him of Prithvi's intent to take over the Khanna company. AK asks "so they need 11% for controlling interest, is it?" in a very thoughtful manner, so thoughtful that Josh goes "Angad..." warningly. Josh has just realised what AK is going to do!
Second set: (This is a reprisal of the preview from two episodes ago (8th Aug), where Naina gets the shock of her life when she sees who on her list of shareholders has not agreed not to sell shares.) It is the Khanna Enterprises boardroom: Naina's secretary walks in and tells her that all the people on the majority shareholders list have been called, and they have agreed not to sell shares without talking with her first. Except. Except for the last name on the list. Naina looks at the list and reacts in horror. Just at that moment, the phones in the boardroom start to ring. Dilip picks up the one in front of him; another one starts. Karthik picks up that one; another one starts. This is the one in front of Naina. She is shell-shocked, you can see she doesn't want to pick up the phone. But, as if compelled by forces beyond her control, she does. And what she hears, she cannot believe. Cut to:
The Khanna house, where Naina is yelling her head off at a debonair, lovely-looking AK who is sitting on the edge of his bed, strumming his guitar. He turns his head to look at her, and a sheer devil-may-care smile etches itself on his face. (Oh, what a smile there was, my countrymen - er, countrywomen!) For those who watched the previous (9th Aug) episode, this was the preview shown then. She is shouting: "It is perfectly irresponsible to have sold your shares just now. To someone we do not know. Who is PK enterprises? They have now got control over our company. Who are they? They will now control us!" AK, who is pottering around his room, settling down his guitar, turns, as if in surprise and says: "But we do know who they are, we know them very well." Naina is sarcastic and cold: "Who are they then?" And in a casual manner, AK returns with: "It is Kripa's." Naina is completely dumbstruck. She can obviously NOT believe that AK would do this to her...
She walks down the stairs in a disbelieving manner. AK's voice is echoing over an over in her mind, "Kripa's company, we know them very well." She is nearly stumbling as she reaches the foot of the stairs. Where even more bad new awaits. Karthik, trembling and scared, rushes in first with "Mom, bad news", followed by Dilip. Naina is uncomprehending, uncaring. "What worse news can there be than that Kripa owns PK Enterprises?" Dilip and Karthik start in disbelief. Karthik says "That _is_ bad news." (BTW, this is no longer our sardonic, suave Karthik: he looks young, shaken and in need of reassurance.) He says "Mom, there's even more bad news." Naina cannot believe there can be worse news than Kripa being the owner of her company. Karthik says "We've been slapped with a penalty clause of 45 crores by the Bose company!". Naina is now in complete shock.
The next scene is at Mrs. Bose's office, where Mishty sits with her mother, listening to the Khanna Klan (minus AK). Naina asks in desperation why they are doing this to her. Mrs. Bose explains that when the loan was given, it was sanctioned by Prithvi. Thus, for the penalty clause to be forfeited, it will have to be rescinded by Prithvi. There is nothing that she can do about it. (I thought this was stretching it -- a company takes joint decisions, and if I know her, she would have given both her children equal rights. That would mean that Mother and Daughter could overturn a decision by Son. But hey, what do I know? I'm not a corporate lawyer. :-/ ) Mishty, however acting resolute and sweet, says that she will go and talk to Prithvi and that Naina should stop sweating so much.
The last set starts at Prithvi's apt, where Mishty is appealing with him. But he is completely resolute. He tells her strongly that when she asked to reconcile with him, they'd agreed that they would not let anything come between them again. But she was doing that just at the moment, with her pleas to get this penalty clause off. Mishty tries again, but she can see that Prithvi's jaw is set and his brows are drawn in a line -- he is NOT going to change his mind about this. She turns and leaves. Cut to:
The Khanna house where Naina is sobbing (!?she can sob??!) that it is HER house and she cannot, cannot, cannot give it up as collateral on the loan, she cannot! All the other Khanna Klan try to calm her, Dilip acting the husband who knows that there is nothing to be done, Karthik who is desperate at seeing his mother having gone to pieces, Anitah who is looking scared out of her pretty little head. Naina is having flashbacks of all the times that she tormented little KS - starting from the early days when KS had just landed up from Nainital, to the time that KS was thrown out of the house by both AK and her, to the time when she tells KS to abort her child unwanted by the father, to the time when she tells KS that KS is living on her charity in front of Daadi. She gets hysterical: "It's MY house, I won't give it up, I won't." Her family gather around her, she is still hysterical. She passes out -- but this time it is NOT a fake.
The last scene is the auction of the house. It is a standard scene: a podium with the auctioneer, a table with the family members, AK stands with feet apart behind the family table. A set of 35 chairs in front, on the lawn and the bidding is in process. The price goes from 20 crore, bit by bit, to 40 crore. The bidding is nearly done when KS' voice pushes it to 41, 43 and finally 50 crore. The interested buyer is done - he cannot match it. KS stands at the back of the buyers with Gnarly Gnome, just as AK stands at the back of the sellers. She is triumphant; the Khanna Klan look sick. AK looks .. expressionless.
As the auctioneer closes with KS as the winning bid, she walks triumphantly upto the podium, Gnarly Gnome following close. She takes the papers with a sneering smile on her face, examines it triumphantly. AK looks down to hide a teeny smile. KS walks in front of Naina. She says well, look who wins now. You have nothing, and I, who came in with nothing, have it all. All eyes are on KS, including AK's, which are again expressionless. But KS has got a final cut to deliver. She throws the papers into Naina's face -- did AK look shocked there? KS tells her to pick up the papers, and live in the house. And that Naina should and will forever remember that Naina and her family are living on _HER_ charity. Naina doesn't quite understand whether to merely glare at KS, or to cut her heart out then and there itself.
But wait! KS is not done yet. (And here is where my heart suddenly took a nose-dive and hid in my stomach, shivering in fear that the world is a very dark and horrible place.) She walks to and in front of AK. She has got that same sneering smile, he has nothing to say, nothing to show. In a crystal clear voice, she says that she'd done all this to destroy him and that had become the aim in her life. But she has finished with her vow of vengence. She now wants to take her life forward, and in the process of doing this, she does not mean to look back at all, not even at AK. He is as still as a statue through it all.
She walks down the podium and stands in front of Prithvi who had followed her upto the stage. She looks at him, and still in a clear voice, says whether he remembered her promise of getting rid of her past, and what he had asked of her then. Prithvi looks tremulous and uncertain. He says yes he remembers. Then she clearly says "My answer is Yes. Prithvi, I will marry you." Cut to: AK's face, eyes wide and freezing with - oh, je ne sais quois en anglais - something deeply hurt and negative and uncomprehending. :-(
Preview: A dark scene between KS and Prithvi. She is telling him that she cannot give him what he can give her. There is something dead within her that she is not sure that she will ever be able to revive, to bring to life. Prithvi holds her face gently and says that he will wait. (Or something to that effect - I couldn't really pay attention. By this time, my brain had joined my heart in the pit of my stomach and both were crying too hard to understand anything.)
(I am miserable. I can't see a way out of this. The only way out of this is if Prithvi gives KS away to AK, and I can't see that happen. :-( :-( :-( I think I am as miserable as AK. I am going to have to stop watching KYPH and I was so beginning to enjoy it. But if KS gets married to Gnarly Gnome, I won't watch it, I won't, I won't, I WON'T!)
