It's not quite a happy situtation in KYPH-land: KS's world is getting brighter and AK's is getting seamier. His antics to atone to KS makes him go over and beyond the call of sacrifice: after himself, he offers his entire family to KS for slaughter. IMHO, that is NOT on! What you do with yourself is your business; you have to leave others to their own freedom. And Naina's making Karthik the prince of the dark side of the force.

The show: it opens with a shot back to Nainital where the phone insistently rings but comes up as a blank call whenever KS' father picks it up. Her mother looks nervously as her father gets increasingly irritated. He gets up to leave and her mother offers to pick up the next call that comes. When she does, what she hears is KS sniffling at the other end. This is the first time that KS reveals to her mother that she has lost her unborn child. What they dont' know is that her father has picked up an extention and is crying his heart out at the same story. KS tells her mother of her success and the party that is being held in her honour. After shedding many tears, the call is done. Her mother is startled by her father coming up from behind her. He urges her to go to KS, and gives her a gift for his daughter.

Back in the city, the party's in full swing. KS draws applause when she sashays down a staircase dressed in full, glittering red, the colour of fresh blood. She greets her guests, but her eyes are constantly drawn to the entrance. Who is she looking for? As she turns away, her mother appears! They fall into each other's arms -- KS looks like a child again -- and are thrilled to little bits. Her mother gives her the gift which turns out to be a little icon, and KS instantly realises that her father has forgiven her. Her happiness quotient has just gone up. She takes her mother to Prithvi. That Gnarly Gnome actually stoops to touch her mother's feet! With apologies to all, it was Ugh.

Josh enters, all star-like and sparkly. He cuts a swathe through his fans and saunters across to KS and her gang, gets introduced to her mother (no feet-touching there, let me tell you!) and continues acting cute. KS confesses to Josh that she has no desire to speak to the press. Instantly, Josh gathers them around KS, who mutters an irritated thanks at him through a false smile. Nicely done.

A reporter asks what she contributes her success to, and Naina and her family has the misfortune to enter at that time. In what is a rather nasty encounter, KS draws Naina over to the reporter and lays her success at Naina's unloving, unhelpful feet. I can understand KS antagonism to Naina, but I still think that AK had no right to subject his family to this kind of exposure and humiliation. Through it all, KS' mother is not having a good time. KS walks off with a toss of her pretty little head, and Naina gets back to her regularly scheduled program of constant glower. The men in her life stand mutely around her. AK has this peculiar look of satisfaction on his face. BTW, in what is probably co-ordinated, AK wears a white shirt with slashes of blood red in the collar and cuffs. Don't know why I noticed this, but it stood out.

The next bit was the most intriguing and interesting of the entire show, and it lasted for all of 5 microseconds. As AK walks towards the bar, he catches KS' mother's eye. She looks very uncomfortable, and he looks .. I don't know what. For the first time that I've seen him perform, MIKhan failed to get what he wanted to say across! I guess what AK might have wanted to do was to look contrite and apologetic at KS' mom, but that was not what came across. He looked .. well, weird. I think it's not just us who are getting tired of KYPH? :-( :-( :-( But I thought it was interesting that the director/writers actually brought in this angle of AK trying to do a long-distance apology to KS' mother.

In the center of the dance floor, Josh after a stint at DJ-ing, charms KS' mother into a dance. Gnarly Gnome gets KS to go the floor with him. In the middle of the dance, KS does what she does best: catches AK's eye while he does what he does well: catches her eye right back while drowing his sorrows in alcoholic drink. AK sits at the bar when a bevy of females swarmes around him. :-) KS casually walks across, her eyes on AK all the while. The swarm notice KS and instantly flit away to the latest hottest star. AK is bemused; KS is gloating. And it caused instant discomfort. It was like watching someone cut his hand and watch smilingly while someone else ate it. It was another Ugh situation in this show.

Alliyah has been watching this from afar, comes across to lay a comforting hand on AK's shoulder. He's still smiling in that ghastly manner. When she asks him whether it didn't hurt to have all his fans leave him, he says no. After all, he wins when KS wins, and that is what she has just done.

End of show. The preview for the next day: Naina is going bananas at the realisation that AK is really giving up his all, and them too, to KS. She wants him stopped before _all_ is lost. Seriously, the writers HAVE to think up some new lines for this lady! Thankfully, Karthik doesn't say any of his usual lines. But we do get to see a shadowy figure at the party say "I've done what you wanted (boss)" and a dark suit clad hand giving the figure a lump of cash.

I don't know why this episode disturbed me. I guess when AK was in a destructive rage against KS, there was ALWAYS a sense that he was fighting to destroy all his empathy and love for KS out of himself. All his rage at KS explicitly ended up hurting him. In KS' destructive rage against AK, there appears to be nothing left in KS herself to hurt or destroy. What comes across is truly the sense of a KS-machine, cold and emotionless, standing with an axe over an AK, who is on his knees with his head bowed and his neck exposed for her to cut off. It doesn't feel nice, not anymore. It looks like a mad race to death with everyone that love them watching helplessly from the sidelines. Josh, Alliyah watching AK with their hands tied; Daadi might be remorseless if she refuses to open up to the possibility of AK having changed; a new possibility that KS' mother might actually wonder why AK is such a different broken-hearted boy from the spunky one who she had met last in Bombay.

Sigh. I don't know what to hope for anymore. So I too will helplessly watch from the sidelines, whether I like it or not. I feel that I owe the AK/KS characters that much. :-(

u r rite on a number of counts ......... I too feel that KYPH has lost a lot of its lutsre or maybe we r tired of watching Angad's devdaas routine and Krip's I- am- a- child, no wait, I- am- a -woman- out- for- revenge routine(YAWNNN!) ....it is getting to be very tiresome...

I kinda felt sorry for angad in the beginning .... he set out to purge Kripa frm his system and he did so well by lashing out at her at every opp he got .... u cud feel him hurting himself when he hurt kripa.... but with her ... I dont know where its going ....she is always moping about times gone by ( which is tiresome after her sombre promises to h/self on a number of occasions to forget him)Sorry.... but I dont see that drive /madness that would motivate a shylock-to-be if he were out for his pound of flesh or in kripa's shoes ........ i dunno if I am making sense .....but that's the way I feel.....

U r rite about feeling squeamish when angad took his family to the slaughter ..... I also thought it was rather odd that after finding out how his family had wronged him ( & so miserably & completely) he (still) showed naina ,dad and karthik respect .... and yet is keen to see them berated by a stranger (Krips) in front of the whole world to c........ doesnt make sense....

Plus.... the peripheral characters are just getting tooo soppy for my taste .... prithvi ( old faithful....he seems to have picked up this nasty habit of shaking his head whenever Kripa is berating angad .... (feel like shaking him by the collar & saying buddy stay out of the cross fire if u know wats gud for ya .....) and josh with his choco popping/pepsi downing antics, is just toooo happy for nothing ( nor is he too concerned at having lost a contest like pop stars wud have been - ANgad has a reason to lose but wat r u sooo hapy about ....aint ur career important or was he an insginificant popster to start with???) .... while aliyah .....seems to be resigned to playing the role of a shoulder-patting sister (akin to a possum who must play dead on cue!) ....who can see her brother self- destruct but cant exercise her grey matter ( like she previously did to dave the day) to give Kripa some hints about her real benefactor.... how dumb is that ....????

KYPHs lustre is def on the downturn..... or maybe we r expected to leave our thinking caps off .... and keep seeing devdaas in action ..... while a (poor) jhansi ki raani carries out her act...... fff.... we definitely need a new story line ....

Rightly said. I agree, the wronging -wronged act is getting a little out of hand now. I am wondering that since the media is sooo crazy abt Kripa dont they speculate what kind of relationship Kripa- Prithvi share, since they live together😕.

The characters of Mishti, Aaliyah, Josh & Prithvi R being wasted away. They R like a bunch of camp followers who are around only for patting the backs of their respective leaders & cheering them on....... YAWN!!!!

BTW since Naina is sooo keen to take revenge on Kripa howcome she doesn't go to Kripa & spill the beans of Angad sacrifice!!!!She has nothing to lose...

I'm beginning to agree with you on the strange KS behaviour: she shows MUCH less consistency in her behaviour as compared to AK when he was doing his I-hate-Kripa life. Here's a thought: what if she knows that he is still in love with her? Contrary to what she says which is that he is only in love with his career and wealth? What if she knows he's pining away for her, and her real goal is to destroy his smiles, his zest for life through that love?

That would be wicked. Very difficult to pull off, but quite wicked.

Josh: he's just that way. He's sunshine to the bottom of his soul; he's AK before AK fell in love with KS. He's never seen failure and I think that the character is married to the love of his life already. I think he is what AK would've been if AK and KS never split. So I sort of think that Josh is cool. :-)

I do wish they would do something nice with/for Alliyah though - she's a good character. And she can't tell -- she has promised AK not to, just like Josh.

Gnarly Gnome Prithvi is someone who I feel very sorry for. But what the heck! he's made his own bed - he can jolly well lie in it. But touching the mom's feet -- UGH!!

Good point. I think that when Naina sees that there is NO hope of getting AK back on track wrt getting her back into the high life again, she WILL do this.

I have been suffering major reality disconnects from the idea that NO-ONE in the real world seems to know that Josh is AK's good friend from school. Typically communities like the music community in a city are very tightly knit: everyone knows everyone. So this is quite a weird world the writers are painting...

So tru Elizabeth...this is just too much...even though he did all that, he cried afterwards, he pained so much after saying all that stuff...this guy really loves her...no matter what...just wish they would at least start talking...no love scenes...even fighting would do...just get them together.

Liz,

I have to say, that your post is one of the best I have read (in the short time, that I was able to read some posts)! Very well put, when AK was venting his anger and ire on Kripa, we could still sympathize with him, because we know that behind all his fury, there was immense amount of hurt and love..........but Kripa's attitude, from what I can read, she seems to be nothing but a cold fish..............

I will start watching KYPH from today onwards, will be able to contribute more in the coming days!

And hey, thanks for the lovely compliments!

Cheers,

Chilly

Thank you, kind lady. I'm trying very hard to return the favour that you had done with your earlier posts. I'm looking forward to reading you again.
