Do you believe in arranged marriages?
I am OK with it. Now days an arranged marriage is not like before. At least you get to meet the girl. I have been in a few relationships before but none have worked out so now I have left it to the wisdom of my parents.
Has all this exposure and fame changed things for you?
I have basically not changed. But now people recognize me and I even get asked for autographs. I take all this with a pinch of salt. For me this is a step towards something bigger.
How has the journey been so far, you are said to have the X factor?
I do not know whether this X or Y or Z factor is good or bad but it is obvious that I need to work on my singing and performance. Audiences do not consider this factor enough. You have to shine in all aspects. My friends were shocked that I did not make it for I was being considered the complete package. Now I know that to get that edge I need be able to sing well too. I have to convince everyone that I am not the Yo Yo VJ type.
What kinds of response have you been getting from people?
I had gone back to Delhi after the wild card round and my mother wanted me to get married. Enough of chasing dreams! The girl's family saw me on television screen and liked me. So even if I do not become the Indian Idol at least I will get some rishtas.
What if you become the Indian Idol?
First of all I would further my musical training. I would make everyone proud of me. The Indian Idol should be able to hold his own amongst the Idols of the world. I also want to rejuvenate the pop music industry in India. In the US the music industry is bigger than the film industry unlike here. With the money – 10% of it I would spend foolishly on a car, holiday and some shopping. The rest I would invest for my future
What do you make of the other contestants?
I believe in myself. Wining is not important but being satisfied with ones performance. I do not have classical training like the others.
