LONDON: Iqbal Aka Angad of India created history last night by winning the 2002 Wimbledon Singles title and becoming the first Indian to do so. He beat Thomas Johansson of Sweden in straight sets 7-5, 6-4, 6-0.

point. Iqbal Aka Angad will take home 525,000 pounds for winning the Wimbledon Singles title. Commenting on his loss Thomas Johansson commented that " I have not seena better young player than Iqbal Aka Angad and I wish him well." After the match Iqbal Aka Angad commented " The truth is I felt very comfortable on court and never became nervous even though I was playing against a true champion". Iqbal Aka Angad will be coming home to India to a rousing reception. Among others, Amitabh Bachchan and Sachin Tendulkar are expected to be at the airport to receive Iqbal Aka Angad when he returns to India later tonight.
