Hi guys,
I decided to finish my analysis of KYPH. Having dealt with the characters I am now going to deal with the production values and storylines or rather lack of them!
The Storyline
The by line, Balaji and Sony used to market KYPH was that" it was breaking away from the stereotypical love stories with it's believable characters, relatable stories and was going to raise the bar for romance on television as we know it". Before I die of laughter let me get this out of my system. As much as I love KYPH it is anything but original, with the same geesa pita story of a nave girl, from a sleepy backwater who ventures to the big city, alone, armed with her virginal values, with dreams of making it big and falls in love with the womanising big bad wolf Angad, who impregnates her after a night of passion and then refuses to accept the baby as his, culminating in Kripa's dad disowning her because, she has brought disrepute to the family name. Sound familiar or shall I go on… Come on, this storyline is as about as original as Malika Sherawat keeping her clothes on. The story is the same, the difference is the acting and chemistry of it's two leads, Iqbal and Neha who have turned this mundane drivel into must see television and viewers like you and I into avid fans who follow their every twist and turn.
The Production Values
The set India website quotes that KHPH has the signature Balaji production values. If I was Sony, I would not advertise the fact that KYPH comes from the same stable that churns out illogical krap like Kkusum. The sets are designed to make us believe that music royalty aka Angad, a millionaire many times over would live and frequent such places, but the interiors look something out of the pages of a DIY manual, never mind the kind of places a young rich rock star would live or hang around. The faux pas continues with the interiors and the exteriors of the outhouse changing several times over the space of a few days. And then there is the problem of continuity…Kripa is shown with short hair in one scene. Next scene she has long hair. Can Ekta tell me how I can grow my hair so quickly?.....Last when riots, blasts or such events are shown, they look fake and cheap, something you would see in a school play, not a top rated Sony serial. Watch the episodes of the so-called riots which occurred when Krips and Angad went to Palanpur, and Krips dodged the goons to save Angad and you'll know what I am talking about.
In conclusion, despite the harsh criticisms I have made I love KPYH and that is the reason I am being so harsh. I, like thousands of viewers want the serial to flourish and go from strength to strength and not become another Kkusum (sorry Kkusum fans, but this serial should have been put to bed years ago). Neha, Iqbal, Amit and the rest of the cast deserve better storylines an d production values, so Balaji and Sony, pull your fingers out!!!.
