Chapter 2

"Bhabi?? Iss waqt?"

"ha Pallavi…iss waqt…woh…baat hi kuch aisi thi…"

"Bhabi, is everything allright?"

A single tear dropped from Parvati's eyes

"Nahi Pallavi…kuch theek nahi hai…meri maithili, meri bacchi…"

Parvati heard the screams coming from Maithili's room and immediately put the phone down…

Face pale with fright, it took a minute for her to regain consciousness of her surroundings. Tears streaming from Maithili's eyes as she reached out to her bedside table. She picked up a photo frame and stared at it. Bringing the frame close to her, she kissed it and buried it in her protective grasp.

Distancing the frame from herself, she once again stared at the photo. She smiled remembering when this particular photo was taken

Flashback

"Adi! give it here! I don't like taking photos!! Give the camera here!"

"no no maithili! Just one photo!" he smiled as he pulled her towards himself

A fresh stream of tears formed in her eyes as she remembered him

She felt his arms wrap round her while she rested her head on his chest.

Clutching his photo, she cried her heart out…this night, no one could control her, for she had lost control of herself

The next morning found maithili strolling in the Agarwaal Gardens. The cool air sent shivers down her spine, but she was used to this by now…5 months of wandering in the gardens at 5 o'clock every morning was how her day began.

"Beta…"

Maithili turned round to see her Parvati mamma…

M: jee mamma…

P: beta…kal raat tum…

M: please mamma…i..was crying…

P: ha beta, about that…

M: mamma…I can't get him back, but let me at least remember him.

Parvati paused for a moment, listening to maithili's reply…slowly, she nodded and allowed maithili to go past…

She felt herself drown in guilt…

If only she had dared to stand against Om…dared to stop him, then Adi would still have been here…

Parvati stopped Maithili and spoke

P: Beta…I'm sorry…I really am…if it weren't for me, adi would..

"nahi mamma…" maithili spoke turning round…

"you did nothing wrong…no one…knew…" Maithili spoke, her throat growing dry
