My issue is not about widows remarrying. I think it is absolutely imperative to see that even widows have the right to remarry and build their lives again, should they so wish. My issue is that Parvati herself has NEVER WANTED THAT. If a woman has the choice to remarry after her husband's death, then surely she should have the choice to NOT remarry? I think it is refreshing to see a female protagonist who doesn't need the active presence of a man beside her, in order for her life to function. I think it is great to see that a woman can love her husband long after he has gone - just because she doesn't want to remarry, it doesn't mean that she is being forced into regression. In fact, THAT is far more empowering than simply remarrying to show our "modern" and liberal sensibilities. I am all for widows remarrying, but I am more inclined towards a woman's right to CHOOSE whether or not she wishes to go down that path.
Generally though, I agree that Mehra's character is lacklustre, though that is not so much to do with the actor, but with the characterisation itself. If Ekta had kept Suyash's character to what it was when he entered, even Anoop Soni could have lived up to that. I have no sympathy for and no inclination to see a crying, moping Devdas who has no fire and strength of character.
I agree Vasu, it should be her choice, it should be as she wants, but the choice should be available for her.
