TODAY, nobody will deny the fact that superstitious belief is a subject of the past. Superstition was part and parcel of the lives our forefathers and it played a dominant role in the lives of our ancestors. Depending on the stars or the prediction of the astrologers, important and major decisions in life were taken. But with the advancement of knowledge, science and technology, superstitious beliefs automatically took a back seat, at least among the learned. And man did not hesitate to take decisions as per his convictions and will. But it is sad to note, that despite education playing a vital role in moulding man's future, belief in superstitions continue to dominate a section of our society today and one does not hesitate to cling to them for fear of disaster or untoward incidents in their lives in near future.

And popular among them was the present Tamil Nadu chief minister, who preferred her name to be spelled as Jayalalithaa instead of Jayalalitha. Film celebrities were equally taken up by numerology and there was Sunil Shetty renaming his first name as Suniel and Karena as Kareena. And television soap queen and film producer, Ekta Kapoor, believing firmly that alphabet 'K' brings luck to her profession, blindly decided to name all her TV serials with the alphabet 'K.'
