Mallika's returning to Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii after a hiatus.
Tisca Chopra, who plays vicious mother-in-law to Shruti, commenced shooting for Mallika's re-entry on Monday. Mallika, who was sent into hibernation by Balaji Telefilms when Kunika Lall and her sons entered the screenplay, is now poised to return next week to the screen to provide the negative element.
Sources in the production house maintain that the revamped storyline with the bikers and a venom spewing Kunika was not as big a TRP draw as anticipated. This has hastened Mallika's return to the Kahaani... fold.
Tisca Chopra, who will be seen on Doordarshan this weekend in a completely different avatar (she plays Prabhavati, wife of firebrand revolutionary Jayaprakash Narayan in Prakash Jha's feature Loknayak), has been popping in and out of serials. She last did a short appearance in Saakshi, but opted out because she wasn't happy with the haphazard way in which her character was developing.
Tisca is now toying with the idea of floating her own production company, which she has tentatively titled Treasure Trove. No, not television software, Tisca plans to make feature films, the crossover kind. Often referred to as literateur Khushwant Singh's niece, she laughs and says that the connection often works to her disadvantage. "I want to take up writing, as I have always wanted to, but the comparisons with my uncle often aren't in my favour!"
The Kasauli born and Afghanistan bred daughter of an academic has other exciting assignments up her sleeve, but is waiting for an opportune momnet to announce them.
As of now, playing the bitchy Mallika should suffice.
