OS: What next?
Rohit woke up in a cold sweat. It had been around 7 weeks since he had said those fateful words “leave Sonakshi”. It was on his mind on repeat, he could see her crestfallen face, her eyes that showed every emotion shut off. There was nothing for him to read, it was as if she had just given up. She gave a bangle back to her mom and walked away.
How did everything change that night? His life was getting back on track he had just started living again, seeing Raima and her accusations threw him off and then everything his dad was saying, he snapped at her again and he had felt it her trust break. He couldn’t blame her and he also knew she couldn’t have been involved intentionally in Raima’s accident.
He also remembered Suman Rastogi, she stopped Pulkit from following his Sona Di and asked Pari to make a call. She then looked over to me and said please don’t come near my daughter again, I should have trusted my gut and made sure she stayed away from you.
He had heard Pari say something that he will find Sona Di but all he felt was like he needed Oxygen. A part of him had just left Sippy Mansion. Since that day he had not heard from Sonakshi , he had seen her on TV and there was an article in the paper but no answer to any of his messages and calls to him calling the number and it saying this number is no longer valid. She has cut him out of her life.
He should have been happy that he had Raima back and whilst she was who he remembered he was no longer the same Rohit he had changed and he had moved on, he realised that when Raima had started to tell him how Sona was involved in her accident. Normally he would have had the police involved, Sonakshi arrested and probably another 10 other steps. He had stopped Raima and her mom from going to the police and convinced them to move on with their lives. Though how was he supposed to move on with his life without her?
Since that day he knew his family had spoken to Sonakshi and that Deepa Chachi was also part of Sonakshi’s legal team if the police were to get involved. Deepa chachi had told him privately and mentioned to ensure there was no case if he could. Pooja and Ajit also had stayed in touch with her she had become part of the family for them, especially Pooja who had started to see her as a big sister and mentor. He was glad his family could support her even if she was ignoring him.
He knew Raima wanted to be back in his life but he could not do it. His family had noticed changes in him but he didn’t have the strength to make an effort to put on a show. He had made the decision of telling Raima he has moved on, like the message he had sent her. She is a dear friend but not his life partner. It will hurt her but he cannot lie to her either.
Sonakshi has seeped into his heart and she has a part of him that even Raima never had. She has access to his beliefs, hopes, dreams, desires and most importantly his soul. She has always stood there with him and never changed him. She let me be me and accepted it all and I was the fool who told her to go and she listened. She had given up, she would always defend herself but this time it was like she didn’t want to fight she just wanted to be gone.
He knew the 26th September was fateful to her as well but he never knew why. She had never told him and when she had tried he had stopped her. But all he knew was he wanted her back and he never needed to know the truth about what happened to Raima, it didn’t matter because he was not the same Rohit of four years ago then how can he think she would be the same Sonakshi she was four years ago.
He was leaving for the hospital when there was a guy at reception. He had a box and he was saying to return it to Rohit Sippy. I had never met him, but as I approached him I saw what was in the box, my red sweatshirt the one I had given to Sona. She was removing me from her life but I was struggling to breathe, I didn’t even want to know what else was in the box.
Pooja came there and greeted the guy. She said Dr Nikhil. I heard part of the conversation but it ended with him saying it is Sona’s birthday and inviting Pooja to the little party they have for her. It was a new year for her, Nikhil said and it should start of with happiness. How could he forget today was the 7th November, he was reminded everyday and on the actual day he forgot.
Later that evening Pooja was saying bye to everyone giving a vague excuse she is going to a friends party. His family were about to push for details, when I decided to step in and say “ have fun tonight and go you will be late.” She was surprised I knew but left. I told the family Puji is probably on her way to Sonakshi’s birthday celebrations with Ravi and Vimmi also heading there.
The family was surprised, I knew where she was going but I was so calm about it. “Rohit” I looked up. It was Nishi Bua. “You do know that it’s not only her birthday today, Suman Rastogi told me that Sonakshi will be getting engaged today.” I was in shock. “It wasn’t out of spite, it was the quietest I have ever heard her, she had to come in for her appointment. She looked defeated and tired, just wanted to be out there. I over heard a phone call and she told me. After the last 4 years where she has left Sonakshi alone to make her own decisions, and mend her heart it was finally time for her to step up and be a mother and not let anymore tears impact her daughter’s life.”
“Did she tell you his name?” I asked. Nishi Bua said no. He wanted her back but had he left it too late. Was it time to let her go, maybe Ajit was right I will be in her pictures and a mamu to her kids. He couldn’t have his last words to her be leave! He needed to speak to her. He stood outside the house there was lots of buzz and activity, he saw her face and she was smiling. It didn’t reach her eyes but there was something genuine there with the person she was speaking to. He walked away and waited. He didn’t want to cause any further stress to her.
It was as if luck was on his side, she had come downstairs to see off a guest alone. As she was about to return back he stepped out of the shadows and called her name. She was surprise. “Can I talk to you for a minute, please?” She nodded. “Umm...I never blamed you, I knew you were innocent but it is not an excuse but I was in shock that day. You didn’t give me a chance to explain and I understand why I broke your trust again but I still love you and just wanted a chance to wish you ever happiness in the world. Anyone that has a chance to be a part of your life will be the luckiest person, I just wanted you to know I believed in you. I have not asked for any proof or explanation because I know you and anything that happened in the past you can put behind you and move on. Be happy always Sona and take care.” I kissed her forehead and left.
I wanted her happy and if she is that is all that I could hope for Mata Rani is still not happy with me it seems but if Sona is happy I am happy.
