Just a few thoughts on the current track...
Before watching the latest episode, I was angry with Rohit. I understand where he comes from and I feel for him, but that doesn’t make him right. After reading the synopsis on Hotstar, I was angry with Sonakshi. So basically I started watching the episode quite angry. But once I finished, I was no longer as angry at either of them. This won’t be the easiest track to watch but the writers certainly threw in a few surprises. Also, both leads performed extremely well. Karan was so good in the scene outside the church! He brings a strange childlike innocence and vulnerability in his performance which is amazing! Dipika is also a natural! Your heart goes out to Sona after the phone call. So without further ado, here are a few points I noticed:
- I thought Rohit being angry, was going to call Sona and yell at her but that wasn’t the case. Him dialing her number by mistake was quite a big moment! He forgot the number he had been dialing for 4 years everyday. Another example of him moving on! The shock and need to get control over the situation was so well done! Example of great writing and acting! Also, when they started taking, Rohit was trying to end the call quickly because he realized he was going to lash out at her and she didn’t deserve it. But Sona unintentionally pushed him by mentioning what Ajit did- good friends, fake girlfriend, etc... Now undoubtedly Rohit was wrong in lashing out but the build up was natural. He didn’t just pick up the phone and yell at her. No matter how angry I felt, I had to appreciate the writing there.
- Rohit’s apology was also a surprise but I expect more of an apology from him! But it’s nice to see a male lead who actually acknowledges that he is wrong and doesn’t need a separate track explaining why he can’t say sorry or thank you. But Rohit still has a long way to go in terms of making it up to Sona.
- Also, I thought I was the only one who noticed this but it looks like others have as well so I’ll mention it here. When Sona was requesting the father, you can clearly see guilt and shame in Rohit’s eyes. He knows that it’s not her job or duty to do this yet she is going out of her way to help him. He truly respects her! Now it’s a matter of how he chooses to show her that he respects her and how he makes up for his mistakes! I cannot emphasize enough how amazing both Karan and Dipika are are changing expressions within seconds! It’s absolutely brilliant!
- Now coming to Sonakshi and my anger towards her. I didn’t want Sona to run around helping Rohit again when he lashed out and said so many wrong things to her. However, after the episode I realized that unlike certain others ITV couples, Sona and Rohit are not in a love-hate relationship. They are very close friends at this point. Granted, they are not childhood friends but these past few days they have really stood by each other. It’s not always about love and romance between them. Rohit has hurt her in the past but compared to other shows, their relationship has been a lot less turbulent (no tossing from the window, no taunting at every occasion nor leaving marks on her arms). I think her helping him out just this once was needed for her to establish that they are friends and nothing more. After this, I expect her to walk away and keep a distance. She needs to outline what friendship means for her and she needs to draw the line on her end. At the end of the day, every man and woman for themselves.
- Now the idea of Sona being mahaan like Parvati, I am walking the middle ground on this. I don’t feel like she is entirely like Parvati. Sona is very strong but somewhere her relationship with her mother and her childhood struggle left a deep impact, making her a person with a very giving nature. She needs to know relationships are two way streets and not just about giving. Coming to Parvati, something Rajkummar Rao once said is very relevant. He said when doing Omerta, he saw a very disturbing news and reacted in a way that was unlike him. Characters do leave an impact on actors, especially one you play for years! It also explains why certain ITV male leads look so battered towards the end of a show (oily hair, breakouts, no haircut, grief beards and bags under the eyes). They feel the impact and torture (by writers) of their characters on screen. So yes, Parvati does leave an impact on Sona but Sona has a personality of her own as well. The upcoming track will show us which side holds more weight.
- I was initially quite amazed at the picture of Raima and Rohit in the church! It was beautiful. But to be honest, the chemistry did not translate on screen at all. I felt for Rohit during the sequence but I hardly felt Raima. I think it shows how little impact they have together on the show. Raima is only here for Rohit to move on and let go of his guilt. As long as the actress isn’t changed midway, Raima will remain a catalyst for Ronakshi. and not become a supporting character.
- Precap- I don’t think Sona was being Mahaan by telling the Father to have the prayer for Raima. It was her taking the first step in drawing the line. Rohit came here for Raima so why should Sona receive the prayer. If she needs to pray or needs blessings, she can come on her own. Given the situation, it seemed like a very couple thing (getting the blessing together) and Sona saying no made me very happy! Sometimes heroines act so confused in such situations but not Sona. Even on Teejri, she was angry and didn’t want to do the puja. This was her taking a stand and acknowledging that she has no place in the Rohit-Raima situation and won’t stick around to watch. I just hope it stays like this!
I will add more points if it comes to me haha I literally typed this on my commute to work so no emoticons. I really hope the writers do justice to the upcoming track. It’s no surprise that this was going to come but still, it would be so sad to see such an amazing show go down the usual path. They can really do something amazing if they want to. I want a strong and dignified Sona and a Rohit who explores his feelings and tries to gain clarity. They have amazing actors who create magic on screen! But if Sona becomes a crying mess who runs after Rohit who treats her like crap, there is nothing left to say or watch. I will keep an open mind as long as the story gives me hope. Fingers crossed for a natural yet angst-filled track that doesn’t drag for months! Please let me know what you guys think!!
