No Apoorva, no Chaitanya!
Birthday girl, Surveen Chawla, denies link-ups with her co-actors and confesses enjoying her single status.
Tell us something about yourself?
I'm an extrovert but still like my space. I'm a firm believer that God leads the way for me. I'm a good listener. I'm a realist but I'd like to fall in love the way my character 'Kajjal' (Sony) does. I share her enthusiasm and values. The only thing I can't be is a superwoman like her.
How do you view the TV medium?
It's a brilliant medium. But we're getting into a rut by producing poor quality shows. For an actor, it's important to be associated with quality work. It's a difficult medium to work in. We get scripts on a daily basis. I'm unhappy doing dailies. I have to keep out logic.
What genre in TV appeals to you?
I'd like to be an anchor. I'd love to take part in shows like 'Jhalak Dikhla Jaa' because it featured professional dancing. I'm an adventurous person so a show like 'Fear Factor' would also work for me.
Have reports of an affair with Apoorva Agnihotri ruined a friendship?
The rumours were ridiculous and far-fetched. They gave such frivolous details, which were difficult to digest. We're just co-actors. I'm single and I don't let such rumours affect me. My family stays away from me but I've been blessed with parents who have full faith in me. They just laughed it off. Rumours woven around my relationship with Chaitanya (Choudhary) were also baseless. We started off hating each other. He'd always try to guide me and we'd end up fighting. But gradually we became friends.
Are you in touch with Balaji Telefilms?
No. I'm not in touch. I left on a good note. I was offered a few roles but none appealed to me. I got more than what I had expected by playing Charu ('Kahiin To Hoga') and wanted to move on. I'm grateful to Ektaa (Kapoor) for the platform.
Do rumours of 'Kajjal' going off air bother you?
Yes, we did have issues of delayed payments and bounced cheques. But all credit to Sony for intervening and making sure that we were paid and finally even changing the production house. It was a nightmare to slog for 30 days and then discover that the cheques had bounced. But all's well now.
What about love and marriage?
There's no pressure from my parents for me to get married. They just want me to live my dreams with a smile on my face. I have no picture of an ideal mate. I don't have many friends in the TV fraternity. I'm not very comfortable with artificial people. I tend to get irritated by put-on behaviour at parties.
How do you pass time in between shots?
I listen to music, catch up with my friends and do yoga mudras to revive my energy levels.
And on a day off?
I sleep, go to the gym, play with my dog, and pamper myself at the spa.
