It's the first time India has participated in the SKY Festival, and who better than Indian television's biggest divas to represent the changing trends? And so the ultimate good woman, Tulsi Virani and the ultimate vamp Ramola Sikand got together to represent Star Plus on the international level. Smriti Iraani and Sudha Chandran attended the event in Manchester (England), and Smriti also staged her play Kuch Tum Kaho Kuch Hum Kahein along with Sudha.
'Play' on
"I had a great time doing the play. We got a terrific response from the audience," says Smriti.
Sudha also adds that getting recognition from Indians living abroad means a lot to her. "I heard some of them telling Smriti how they skip their dinner so that they can watch her show," she says.
Did the audience still remember her as Ramola Sikand? "Oh yes, some of them still called me Ramola and recalled every little detail about the character," she says, obviously pleased.
Having already proved her skills as a theatre actor, Sudha says she didn't have much trouble doing the play. "It went off very well, and I had a great time being a part of it," she says.
It's show time!
Talking about the event, Smriti says, "It was a huge honour to be able to stage our play at the festival. People from all over the world came to watch it. In fact, I was surprised when I met several Somalians who actually watch Kyunki."
Iraani is currently playing the dual role of producer and actor. "Along with my play, I am also co-producing my show Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasman with Ekta Kapoor. It's a task I have taken to and it demands a lot of time and attention," she says.
As for working with Sudha, she says, "I hope that she had a good experience working with me. She's a fabulous person and actor."
As for being nervous about the debut of her new show this weekend, Smriti says, "The only three people I'm worried about are Ekta, Shobhaji and Shailja Kejriwal (programming head, Star Plus). In fact, they saw the first edit of the show and are quite happy with the result. They've all put in a lot of hard work into the making of this show."
