The actor lost a role as the makers wanted her to retain her foreign accent. When Sydney-based actor Kavita Priya Sharma (Nethra in 'K Street Pali Hill') came to telly town, she was asked to get rid of her Australian accent. But after working diligently on perfecting her Hindi, Kavita lost out on a role, because the producers wanted her to keep the foreign twang. An upset Kavita exclaims, "It's a catch- 22 situation. Earlier I was asked to get rid of my foreign accent. After I worked hard to do away with it, they want me to go back to square one." The former business analyst adds, "Reverting back is not worth it." Incidentally, the Punjabi girl's western looks got her playing NRI characters in 'Karma' and 'Kartika'. Currently the actor is shooting for Ektaa Kapoor's 'Karmic Konnection'. Kavita says of this upcoming show, "Thankfully there's no NRI hangover in this serial. It revolves around paranormal incidents. I assist Shabbir Ahluwalia in his research." Quiz her on her why she has stayed away from music videos given her glam-quotient and she states firmly, "They expect me to wear skimpy outfits which are almost like lingerie. Decency is my priority!" Kavita has undergone training at an acting workshop in Sydney and has done a brief stint as a VJ in Zee's 'Bollywood Tonite'. |
