Shilpa Agnihotri is back to fiction after a long time, and will be seen in an inspirational role in Imagine's Jyoti

Shilpa Agnihotri who has been missing from fiction shows after Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is back with Imagine's Jyoti, where she portrays the typical single mother who is content in living her life with her four year old daughter!!

According to our source, "Jyoti (Sneha Wagh) who cannot take the stress of dancing due to her pregnancy, will now start working at a play group where she has to teach little kids. This where she bumps into Ritu (Shilpa Agnihotri) who is a middle class working woman, a single mother. Ritu has come to enroll her kid at the play group. Jyoti is completely inspired by the manner in which Ritu goes about her life, and has no bitter feelings of being a divorcee with a kid".

When contacted, Shilpa confirmed the news and said, "Yes, I am enjoying being part of Jyoti. It is one of the serials that treats the audience with real emotions. And working with Sphere Origin is fantastic!!".

Talking about the reason why she took the show, Shilpa avers, "My mom is an average TV viewer, and is a keen follower of Jyoti. When I got a call to portray this role in Jyoti, I decided to take it up as this would make my mom happy (smiles)".

Talking about her role, she states, "I play Ritu who is a divorcee, living with her daughter. She is very happy in her world, and her daughter means life for her. She is content with life and this is what inspires Jyoti (Sneha Wagh) who is also pregnant and is a single mother".

Though Ritu strives hard to live a happy life, Jyoti will also see the manner in which a single mother has to struggle to exist in the society. Shilpa's character is expected to be around for 2-3 weeks as of now.

Shilpa was last seen in Imagine's Pati Patni aur Woh, and the actress feels that it is a home coming for her, to be part of Imagine again..

She will have a very simple look, that of a typical middle class working woman. Shilpa has started shoot today, and her entry sequence will be aired this Friday..

New Entry in the show may be the indication that Jyoti is not going to end soon

Here is something from a while ago when we were discussing whether Sushma & Jyoti should have their babies. I dug it up b'cos it described the problem of being a single parent soooo well.

Loved your post, Vick Rocks.

In the evening when I go for a walk around my block, I see small bunches of teen girls and at times overhear their conversations. It is sad. Discussions are generally related to some boy who they love and are willing to throw off their parents for this person.

Walk by a teen boys group and talks are generally on cricket or some sport, and if it is on girls, it is generally more 'time pass'. Sad, but the level of commitment that the girl friend is having is not being matched...and in my opinion (at my age of 35) it should not be.

To eat (and EVERYONE needs to eat), you need money. To earn that you need to develop some skill set, and to do this, you HAVE to get educated. I support the fact that Sushma is getting educated.

On the other hand, I do NOT approve of babies which have no future being born just for the heck of it. It is hard enough to raise kids when you are two committed parents. Try it single handed and it is living hell. What does Sushma plan to do if the baby is sick (and yes, babies do fall sick!)? What does she plan to do when she goes to admit her 3 ur old in school? (and yes, you need to fill in the dad's name). Does she plan to give another bhashan? What abt Jyoti? She is sure to give the principal a headache about the form and how unfair it is to demand the dad's name!

WHat I am trying to say is that real life is hard enough when things are normal. If you try to make your family even more dysfunctional, life is nothing but hell. The biggest baggages in such cases are babies born without love.

I support Sushma is getting a education, but I don't sympathize with her. I definitely do NOT approve of underage mothers.

Of course, since this post, Sushma has reconciled and married Brij, and so now, the focus is on getting Jyoti to her next step, whatever that is. But the same issues above apply to Jyoti as well.

For all the reasons above, I too have a serious problem w/ single parents - and I'm not talking so much widows or widowers, but rather, divorcees and women who have kids out of wedlock. In the US, single parenthood is cited as a major reason for high crime in inner cities amongst both Blacks & Whites. Granted that in India, the impact could be lower, but point is - this is just not a healthy way to live.

Sushma's earlier plan - before they screwed up her track & re-united her w/ Brij - was the best - give your baby away to a couple who can't have kids, and are willing to take care of them. (Incidentally, where is Sarika now? Suddenly, Sushma changed her mind, and Jyoti just mentions that she'll talk to them, and they disappear? Why can't they bring a real closure to that track before introducing Shilpa?) That would be the best plan for Jyoti as well, all her bravado notwithstanding! Either give her baby away - to Sarika herself, since she's no longer going to get Sushma's - or re-marry a person who is willing to accept that baby as well. In fact, that Sarika option would be the best one for Jyoti.

I do think all of Jyoti's options are ugly:
 1. If she raises the baby herself, not only does she face all the issues mentioned above, but in school, her baby will be sure to be taunted on the basis of not having a father. Sushma had the brains to understand that, which is why she was planning to go the Sarika route before Brij had his road to Damascus moment.
 2. If she marries Kabir, all her public problems are averted. One thing she does have to look out for is that whenever she has kid/s from Kabir, will they get preferential treatment from him over Pankaj's kid, the way Sushma got over Jyoti & Sudha.
 3. If she marries Pankaj, essentially, she'll be doing what Sushma did w/ Brij. If CM doesn't leave, it's even worse. In terms of a public message, already the damage has been done vis Sushma & Brij, & Jyoti re-uniting w/ Pankaj would make it even worse. In terms of Jyoti & the Vashists themselves, the message Pankaj will get is that he can behave however he likes w/ women w/ no repercussions. His own commitment to the condition not to want his kid back - he's not bound to! 😡 When he didn't like Jyoti, he got Neelam, and when he started hating Neelam, he got Jyoti. Even though I'm not a feminist and I'm a guy, I hate the idea of him going thru women like toilet paper.
Of all these options, I think #2 is the best of a bad lot. I still want Jyoti to lose that baby - either by miscarriage or adoption - and then marry Kabir for the right reasons. That way, she gets to leave that zoo, and have a more successful marriage based on a comprehensive understanding of each other.

OK, I was wrong, Ritu does make sense when needed!

In today's episode, Ritu got to meet Kabir. Jyoti is planning to take her to her home to convince her family that Ritu is successfully raising her kid on her own, and Jyoti can as well, taking inspiration & advise from her. The 3 of them met while shopping for baby stuff (how far is Jyoti already? And I'm assuming that we don't get to hear about Sushma's birth, or has she already digested the baby? 😆 Maybe she'll compete w/ Bandini's Toral for longest pregnancy)

Anyway, after meeting Kabir, Ritu told Jyoti that just b'cos she decided to select a certain path doesn't necessarily imply that that path has to be the right one for Jyoti. She even let out that had she gotten a guy like Kabir, she might have married him 🥳 I'm glad that Ritu, despite being on her own, is giving Kabir such a vote of confidence.

Precap: Jyoti is in for a medical check-up, and Kabir introduces himself to the nurse as her husband 😆
