May 18, 2010 Written Update

Jyoti is called by another lady to help in wedding preparations and she leaves, looking back at a distraught looking Kabir. Padma tells Jyoti to call Sushma to the mandap. Deepu on seeing her sullen face asks if everything is ok and she assures him it is. He goes to Kabir and notices him also looking distant and inquires, but Kabir makes a joke of it and goes to help him in preparation. Sushma enters the mandap but before she can sit down the pujari makes a scene and says he can't let this marriage happen. He says its because if her child is a girl, then the child would also be taking the pheres with Brij and he is against doing such things. Dadi convinces him to stay on the condition that all rituals other than pheres are performed. When its time for kanyadaan, KK gives his little speech about how he's against it. The marriage takes place.

Poonam and Dadi hide Brij's shoes under Dadi's seat and tell her not to move. All the guys later start searching for the shoes, and Deepu-Kabir manage to trick Dadi into getting up. They find the shoes and rejoice while Jyoti and Kabir are left staring at each other. Sushma has a tearful Bidaai and leaves with Brij (in some fancy car that probably belongs to Kabir😆). All notice that Kabir is missing and Padma asks Jyoti if she said anything to him. End.

why does jyoti have to look sooo shifty when she lies...she stammers, looks down, keeps gulping etc... all she has to say is a firm 'no, i don't know where kabir is' .

My 8 year old cousin can lie better than that! not that i condone lying! 😉

I pointed out here how this was the dullest and least inspiring/interesting wedding I've ever seen - on TV or for real.

I agree w/ Moley - Jyoti's entire expression gives her away when she is lying. Had Pankaj not been blind, he'd have seen thru her from day 1. But on Padma's question itself - like bookbrain says, like she cares where Kabir is. Oh, but here is a golden opportunity to flame Jyoti - what was I thinking. 😲

KK's speech - on why he opposes kanyadaan - was identical to what he said @ Jyoti's wedding, but defies sense. This part is just a transfer of responsibilities from dad to hubby, not 'getting rid of' the daughter. If his daughters are going to go thru ceremonial, as opposed to registration marriages, he might as well go thru all the customs, or save all that money and just go w/ Sushma & Brij to a registrar's office and get them married there. As it is, Brij & Sushma went to a temple for the original marriage. So since Uday married Sudha in a temple in KK's absence, he's the only one who's got any of KK's daughters 😉 Speaking of which, here is a family function that Sudha totally missed: I'd like to see her and Uday's face when they find out.

I thought that the shoe hunt was a competition b/w the dulhan's party & the dulha's party, not a battle of genders, so why did Deepu switch sides here? Looked a little weird. After all, @ Jyoti's marriage to Pankaj, not only Uday & Pratik, but Sajni, Pratik's gf, helped in the hunt for Pankaj's shoes. Sajni didn't take the side of Sudha & Kalpana just b'cos she was a girl.

I also thought Poonam's role in this wedding as strangely subdued - as the bahu of the house, she'd be the most important person in escorting the bride - instead, in addition to Jyoti, Sushma was escorted by one of the neighbor girls, when it should have been Poonam. I know that these 2 had a somewhat strained relationship, but this? Badly thought out by the CVs. Also, when it was time to leave, Sushma had a tearful farewell for Dadi, her parents, Jyoti, Deepu and even Kabir, but none for Poonam? 😲 Bizarre!!!

So Jyoti's enjoyment of this wedding was ruined, but this time, having nothing to do w/ Padma or CM. Just caught in the appearance of deceiving Kabir, while Kabir has to absorb the shock of Jyoti being pregnant. I so wish Jyoti had lost that baby in the hospital.

Thanks for the update, Kru. A dull episode, but @ least the Brij-Sushma saga seems largely over, and we can focus back on Jyotir.

I am impressed by the fact that KK made an objection to the kanyadan ritual.

I find this ritual to be extremely regressive. You cannot make a daan or gift of a real human being...and this ritual has roots in the thinking that women are chattel.

@Vrisha..It is not purely a transfer of responsibilities from dad to hubby. That would be Hast Milan, when the father and mother place the hands of the bride with that of the groom.

Also, it was Jyoti as a show that had the guts to show something against this practice and it fully deserves to be lauded for this.

Also, the ceremony could be performed when a girl is virgin or kanya, in case of Sushma there is no such thing.

I don't know...I think maybe the pandit's objection was not necessary, the baby would just be in the pheras with his/her parents.....But I don't know much about these matters so I apologize if I've said somthing wrong😊
Anyways I think the wedding itself was not needed (no one gave Sudha a proper wedding, not to mention the expenses that come with a wedding) so it's better that it got cut short this way.
