Poonam continues to rant @ Jyoti when Padma intervenes. Surprisingly, she scolds Poonam (not Jyoti: yep, you read that right). She asks Poonam whether she's forgotten how to talk to elders, and orders her back into her room. She then tells Jyoti that Poonam has gone mad and just says anything that comes to mind. (It's surprising how her dependence on Jyoti has made her such a total vassal - we all saw which side she took in every Sushma vs Poonam catfight)
As usual, Poonam is on the roof and calls up daddy (hint: not KK) and gives him the sob story of how poor Deepu's condition is unbearable, and complains that nobody scolds Jyoti-didi. Mahesh-ji orders her to stop crying, and that he's always by her side. He tells her that he'll definitely do something for Deepu, and not to worry.
Padma gets there and tells Poonam that what she told Jyoti was not wrong (how surprising) and that while she didn't want to scold Poonam and that too in front of Jyoti, she did need to realize that right now, it was Jyoti alone who was supporting the family. She tells Poonam that Deepu & Sushi were very young when KK had his accident (while Jyoti & Sudha were toothless hags, probably like Dadi), and that she Padma managed all the responsibilities of the house. In all crisis and situations, she managed everything in the house (like making Jyoti a mangalik so that the house could run). She points out to Poonam that after her, Poonam is the next bahu of the house, so she will have to manage all responsibilities calmly, courageously and with due care. She says that when Poonam first came to the house as a bride, she was hoping that she wouldn't have to see such unhappy days (in which case, why didn't you listen to Deepu's request to not pressurize him to marry? Instead, you & Jyoti ganged up to force him to do just that). She assures Poonam that such a day will arrive, when Deepu will rise to be a great person, and make Poonam very happy. Poonam tells her that she too has the same confidence - if only Deepu manages to keep calm, everything will be okay.
Inside, Sushma asks KK whether it's wrong to go out and see a movie w/ someone? (Finally, Sushma's demonstrating more sense than Padma, Poonam or even Deepu). KK tells her that it's not so much Jyoti's seeing a movie w/ Kabir as much as her being out the whole night that was upsetting everybody else. Sushma disagrees, and points out that after the bomb blasts and curfew, it was not safe for Jyoti to have come home: everybody knew that. (No, your dear saghai ma, bhai & bhabi don't.) The thing that was bothering them was that Jyoti went out to see a movie w/ Kabir. (Actually, it was a combo of the 2, but had Jyoti not been out w/ Kabir to see a film, she'd still have been in trouble, since she and Kabir had been photoed and on the news channels since that attempted assault on her.) She asks whether a person (she should have asked 'woman', since Pankaj is certainly not publicly suffering the way Jyoti is) should stop enjoying life after being divorced? She tells KK that she knows that she too would have to tolerate all this. She and her kid would be taunted that its father is in jail (so Sushma is unaware that Brij is out of jail, but no longer after her) She tells KK that she's afraid, very afraid of what will happen once she gives birth. KK tells her that they have the full freedom to live their lives according to their best judgement, and that if others don't realize that, they shouldn't be hurt themselves at what others think. He tells her that in a few days, she'd have completed her studies, and she'd be independent and capable of taking care of that baby on her own. (KK-ji, in a few days, she'd have completed her 12th, not even a Bachelors. When Sudha completed her BA, Jyoti wanted her to study more, but now, when Sushma simply completes class XII, she's expected to enter the job market? As what - a call center caller?) Sushma tells him that people are very fickle and unlikely to accept her lifestyle, and asks how her kid is expected to live? She vows that come what may, she'll not give her kid such a future, no matter what she has to do to prevent it. (This was a good opportunity for Sushma to explain to KK what she was planning w/ Sarika. Once KK's bought on it, she doesn't need to worry so much about the others in the family frowning on her decision. I think this is one more hint being dropped on what her intentions are. This is an example Jyoti will do well to follow.)
Next morning, Deepu is checking the papers, and throws it down angrily, pointing out that all the jobs there require an education, and all he had was his courier job where he managed to work up to manager. (You would have done well to have considered that when you were spurning the offer from your FIL's colleague) Just then, Jyoti arrives.
Jyoti tries to talk to Deepu, but he leaves the room. Poonam goes up to Jyoti and apologizes, and tells her that due to Deepu's condition, she was very tense, and took out all her anger on Jyoti, and wanted to apologize from the bottom of her heart. Jyoti accepts her apology, and KK looks impressed that Poonam took that initiative on her own.
Padma then asks Jyoti for some cash for the phone bill due today, and KK looks pissed. Padma continues that after today, there would be a Rs 50 late fine. Deepu was paying it, but last month, couldn't since he had already taken out too much advance for Sushma. Jyoti tells her that she has some cash, and gives that to her.
As she walks out, KK stops her and asks her whether she's had her breakfast. She tells him that she's taken the tiffin, and will have it later.
At work, Kabir is speculating that Jyoti won't be coming today, and Bhagya-da disagrees, and describes to Kabir the time when she danced (the week after she had attempted suicide on learning that Padma was her step mom). He tells her that in order to keep his commitment, Jyoti danced. Just then, Jyoti arrives, and Kabir agrees w/ Bhagya-da that she's a fighter.
Kabir goes up to Jyoti and thanks her for coming, saying that he was scared that she'd have stopped due to the events of yesterday. Jyoti apologizes to him curtly for Deepu's behavior, (dear Jyoti, such apologies are not transferrable, and this apology is meaningless unless and until it comes from Deepu) and thanks him for taking care of her during the curfew, and leaves the room. Kabir follows her, and asks why she is avoiding him? She's talking like she's submitting an application to the office. He then offers to not see her in public, but requests that in the office at least, she can treat him as a friend, and talk freely? Jyoti tells him that she respects her family and its ideals (not that they have any), and so it's her desire that they maintain a distance b/w them. She comes there to work, so other than work related topics, there cannot be any personal conversations b/w them: she only works w/ him, and that's something that both of them have to keep in mind. Kabir is hurt and leaves. 😭😭😭
Deepu is about to leave the house - presumably in search of work, and Padma gives him a stack of old newspapers to sell, since they do need the money. Deepu tells her that he is out on some other work, and Padma tells him that this too is necessary, since they need to pay the rations. She had been planning to take these out, and today got down to it. Then she accidentally blurts out that anyway, Deepu is sitting @ home and not doing anything...
This scene was priceless: Deepu was absolutely pissed. Poonam & Dadi looked shocked as well, while Padma looked @ him realizing what she had done. Deepu urges her to continue, pointing out that he's sitting idle @ home. He and his wife have to live off his sister, so he does have to do these things, no? Padma protests that she said no such thing, but Deepu points out that that's what was on her mind. He says that in this world, if one has money, one has everything, and if one doesn't, one has nothing. He asks Padma whether she asked him whether he ate anything before leaving. (I get pissed if someone does ask me that: it's like treating me like a kid) Then angrily, he walks out, w/o the papers. (This scene was an absolute hoot: Padma makes the mistake of doing w/ Deepu what she normally does w/ Jyoti, and the dear baby can't take it, and storms out. And I'm glad to see Padma paid back in style by Deepu. Incidentally, some people have speculated that Deepu may become a ghar jamai, and I think that if that happens, this would have been the trigger) Dadi scolds Padma for not thinking before she talked, and not noticing how delicate the situation is.
Kabir is @ a club, playing pool/billiards/snooker w/ his friends. He starts the game w/o sending any ball in, and his friends tease him. Kabir is apparently a champ, but today, he's getting outplayed. While he plays, he gets flashbacks of Jyoti, and depending on the mood of Jyoti that he remembers, the shots are holes or not. For one shot, he brushes aside his partner wanting to play the shot himself. The last shots that he plays are preceded by him remembering the final things that Jyoti told him today, and he botches that play. His friends tease him that somebody has disturbed Kabir, and ask to know who. Kabir angrily confronts them, and tells them that nobody can disturb the life of Kabir Pratap Singh. He adds that he's not given anyone this right, nor does he plan to. The friend points to the balls on the table, and tells him that the disturbance has already happened. Kabir looks @ it, and the episode ends there.
A predictable episode - in order to try and duck public comments about them being an item, Jyoti tries to put the Kabash on Kabir by banning him from discussing anything outside work. Let's see how it succeeds.
I loved the Padma-Deepu confrontation moment today. Deepu finally gets to experience everything that he knows Jyoti goes thru w/ his mom, and Padma got exactly the treatment she deserved. Only thing - Padma was not wrong either - since Deepu is idle, it's perfectly legitimate to send him on errands, unless he has interviews coming up.
Poonam - I liked her apology to Jyoti. But when will she ever learn to stop calling her dad? And why does Mahesh-ji, who otherwise gives her good advice, always preface his warnings w/ a 'your papa is there for you'? I agree that Poonam still has a relationship w/ her maayka, but dear Mahesh-ji, she's married now. One of the reasons - one day, you won't be around and she will, and at that point, she'll have to depend on Deepu for things like advice. The sooner you demand from her that she goes to Deepu w/ her problems, the better. Somehow, I think Prabha is a better parent than Mahesh-ji.
Sushma - somehow, she was the only one making sense today, asking the very basic question - SO WHAT? She was perfectly correct in stating that they didn't seem to have a right to a life after a divorce. This segment was one way of signalling the viewers of her intention to adapt out her kid, by giving very good rationales behind them. I do wish that sooner or later, Sushma takes KK into her confidence and gets his support behind her decision.
Episode rating: 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Pluses: Deepu-Padma confrontation, Sushma, Poonam's apology, Kabir's pool game. Minuses: Poonam's dad routine, Jyoti's 'apology' for Deepu, Jyoti's cold-shoulder of Kabir.
