I am not a fan of Karna but still don't want to insult him by comparing him to Mahendra!

The four-some, Dhuriyodhan, Shakuni, Duschasan, and Karna are known as Dhusta Chathushtais in Mahabharat. Likewise.. are the Dushta Chatushtais Shehzaade, Farooq, Khalil and Mahendar in HBAS.
It was Karna who ordered the disrobing of Draupati in the gambling hall.
When Vikarna puts forward his arguments against bringing Draupati to the court, Karna says," When the elders are seated here with their mouths shut, how could you open your mouth and utter such words..? It is not the custom for the slaves to wear clothes on their torsos.. And this woman is not chaste...She had relationship with five husbands.. Hey Sevak... remove all the upper garments from the five slaves and disrobe this woman.."

Though Karna didn't belong to the Kaurava clan, he was treated as one of the evil doers here in this scene..
Did not Mahender do a similar thing when Heera was questioned by the Ranisa in Bhansi? In Heera's words, it was..

'In the end, my character was maligned... I was dragged to the Sabha... humiliated... in front of many... ironically, it was HIS character - his actions and eyes... that weren't honourable all along...'

I picked MB Karna for Mahendar, mainly for his looks. Mahendar is also young and handsome, his evil -inside is not shown to others, even to his parents..We trusted him till chapter 11..!

Aunty, I completely agree that Karna was never the "Sadhu'' among the "Shaitan' and not only the disrobing of Draupadi he instigated aunty, but all throughout Mahabharata if Duryodhan and Shakuni were to be blamed then Karna was equally to be blamed for adding fuel to fire to make Duryodhan burn in jealousy, to be more vindictive, to be more revengeful, to be more greedy...it was on Karna's valor Duryodhan relied and became indestructible in his attitude and felt invincible in his ways.

Even when Pandavas were banished to the forest, it was Shakuni and Karna who again goaded to go to that forest to make fun of their situation. When the Gandharvas captured Duryodhan, Karna fled to save himself and later when Duryodhan out of humiliation sat down to commit suicide it was again Karna who came and incited him to live on and keep avenging the Pandavas till his last day of life.

His ego was crushed by Draupadi and that is why he took his revenge in the court by calling her names and questioning her character and thus provoked Dushhashan with the heinous suggestion of disrobing her.

All his life instead of working hard to gain excellence he worked to defeat Arjun, to become more famous than Arjun! His goal ended in defeating and dethroning Arjun from the title of the best archer in the world! Unlike Arjun who aimed to be the best in archery Karna aimed to beat Arjun! And the end result we all know what happens.

Knowingly he sided with the Kauravas, he knew they were immoral but still he sided and fought for them and along with them he too plotted and schemed against the Pandavas.

And another factor that hurts me the most is Abhimanyu's death! All the above points Karna did without knowing that the Pandavas were his brothers but when he planned to encircle Abhimanyu under his generalship of the Kauravas and attacked a young boy all together, that beats everything! I don't understand where his nobility and valor went then? And when he plunged his sword as the final blow to Abhimanyu didn't he think then that he is killing his own nephew? And then do that inhuman dance around Abhimanyu's corpse gloating over their deed showing a one-up on the Pandavas! I can go on and on aunty about his several drawbacks that he had and ask people when they praise Karna!

But when it comes to comparing Mahendra and Karna I will draw a line because there are some aspects of nobility still left in Karna which Mahendra lacks.

Karna other than being in Duryodhan's company, never lusted after the opposite sex like Mahendra does.

Karna's basic dilemma was being grateful to Duryodhan for which he did what he did knowingly or unknowingly but Mahendra does not even have a bone of gratitude or loyalty for anyone! He is all about 'I, Me and Myself'!

We all know about Karna's charity towards the needy but Mahendra again does not know the meaning of charity, he is self-centered and selfish!

Karna however bad he was he was not a backstabber, not a 2 faced traitor like Mahendra. Karna was the means through whom Duryodhan wanted the wealth, name and fame but here Mahendra went to shake hands with the devil himself to get what he wanted against his beloved.

Karna all said and done was definitely much more capable and valiant and noble compared to the sneaky, underhanded, slimy Mahendra!

Just my 2 cents Aunty, others might differ!

I can compare Mahendra to Ashwathama, because Ashwathama also underhandedly came to the Pandava camp to kill all the sons of Draupadi thinking they are the Pandavas! He came to backstab them and did. He didn't have the guts to face the Pandavas alone and slyly in the middle of the night came to attack them just like Mahendra sneakily came to Shehzade to take down AMK and Heera because he didn't have the guts to march and attack Parnagarh or AMK! He went the devious route to attain his gain be it befriending Khalil or befriending Shehzade, because he is nobody's but himself's! As in Hindi they say, 'Choron ka bhi kuch usool hote hai', meaning even the thieves have a code of loyalty amongst themselves but Mahendra is even beyond that, no principles or policies can tie him back other than his own selfish gains! He doesn't even think once before stooping low to insult a noblewoman!

So yes, in my book Karna is better off than this deceitful detestable character! 😃

My intention was not to compare Mahender with Karna in every aspect.. Whenever I see the Shezaade with these three folks, I am reminded of these 4 persons in the MB. In a spur of a moment I thought how would it be if Farooq is Shaguni , Khalil is Duschasan .. and the Shezaade is Duriyodhan... . I wanted a character for Mahender. That's all. It was only a fun post and nothing very intentional or serious..It was actually a musing like any other musings I do.. It originated after I read about Kausi's wish to show her Vishwaroop to the Moghul clan..

There are so many arguments put forth for and against each character of the MB from the POV of each one.. Years ago my husband wrote a full length play for a famous drama troupe highlighting the goodness of Duriyodhan and how the schematic conspiracy by those who surrounded him brought his downfall. The anti hero was made the hero of that play..

I admit that Mahender in no way compares with Karna ..

Here , I also like to mention that in Sandhya's quiz, I did not even know the names of the story or actors that the pictures related to. I simply looked at their expressions and posted my comments which I felt would be apt.

Oh aunty, please don't take it in any other way!! 😃 I was also simply comparing and putting my 2 cents here. Everyone has their own perspectives Aunty and that is why Sandy's quiz was so interesting to read and write. 😃 I was merely saying how Karna is better off than Mahendra, that is all, even if by a margin, though he himself was by no means as pure as the driven snow!

And Aunty even I didn't know all the movies of Sandy's quiz, I too looked at the shots and put in my thoughts about what scenes might go with them.

And Uncle too is creative and innovative like you, eh aunty? 😃 That will be one interesting read to look at Duryodhan from that angle where he was always provoked and instigated by his company that he kept and got carried away by them towards his own destruction!

My dear Jhoothi Begum, with all the tall lies you weave you seem to forget who Mansabdar is or what he is actually made of! He is not like you re!! 😉😆

First of all, my tying rakhi on him will not lessen the 'prakop' on my bestie! He will interrogate the way he intended to no matter who she is related to and how close that person is to him.

Secondly, one look at my bestie and he will know that she is all innocent and has nothing to do with any of the spies in his haveli.

Thirdly, my best friend will not ask such a hideous and unthinkable thing out of me!

And fourthly, no matter who tells me, even if the Lord descends on this Earth asking me to do so, I will not heed to him!! As I said I can tie something around my neck by him but not tieing anything on his wrist unless it is a 'gajra' to keep reminding him of my fragrance! 😉😆

So keep all these brilliant ideas to yourself and to your Prannath who even pooh-poohs them but out of fear and something...ummm...exciting to get in return he doesn't utter them to you! 😉🤣
