It is also the same mindset that dictates that all shops (except grocery stores) shut down by 6 pm on weekdays and 5 pm on weekends so the retailers and salesmen also get their evenings off to do as they please! So, yes, all shops close by that time here (Only a month before Christmas do they stay open longer... only a few areas in bustling Central London stay open till late!)

This concept doesn't hold true for restaurants & grocery stores, of course... but restaurants don't open before 12 anyway! And grocery stores have a shift system! 😳

i know di & its really nice...

we can only imagine for such ethics .

Aunty since you missed out on one major layer, I added it up for you! A long overcoat! 😆

Yes, the concert was splendid! Fine choice of songs he performed starting with Rabindrasangeet to Bengali film numbers lipped on Uttam Kumar and then moving on to Hindi numbers. It was pure nostalgia! Took me back to my childhood when I saw my Mom listening and humming these numbers. The black and white television telecasting some of the numbers in 'Chitramala' then one time a week or Hemant Kumar's performance once in a blue moon. And listening to the numbers in radio when mom used to listen to them all mesmerized! 😃

Saree, because all the bongs display wearing sarees on these occasions and if you are not wearing one you will be tired of explaining why you aren't! 😆 Its better to wear one instead of listening to the reprimands. 😆

Here... many, if not most, take on average 2 vacations a year (I don't mean Christmas which is a family affair) unless they are saving for something else, of course... good bosses would urge their employees to take some time off if it's been more than 6 months and no sign of a leave taken yet! In India, 'family' vacations happen once in a couple of years... some hardly ever go! 😔

School teachers here however are not allowed to take time off unless it's an emergency/sickness or a maternity leave. Because they get 13 weeks off a year anyway! 😊

This sounds like too good to be true out here! 🤔 The number of public holidays are so limited here and it is not mandatory to take leave but you can either cash it out or take it forward to the next year! I think we have only 7 national holidays in a year here! 😔 And schools have little more with spring break, summer break, fall break and winter break. Other than summer break mostly the other breaks are for a week and winter for 2 weeks. Teachers have to work in the breaks too to prep and prepare and attend meetings and trainings.

Even stores are open for longer hours in the mall here. They are all open till 9 pm. Grocery stores are open till midnight and open at 6 am.

And during special occasions like Thanksgiving or Christmas, the stores are open for 24 hours. They have those Black Friday sales then.

But yes, we have 5 day work ethic here. Thank the Lord for that! 😃
