Both the novels have heart rending last scenes.

P'amma - SS does have that effect when you read it the 2nd & 3rd time. The sequel in terms of history " Parthiban Kanvu " which I understand was written prior to SS did have a happy ending.

Sandy - Yes the hero is a perfect purushottam & Sivakami's oath was her nemesis. Since the author could not change history it was her oath that he used to create the wedge between them.

Kausi - that is how my Mom consoled me when I read it the first time around.
