SANDHYA, YOUR POINT ABOUT BUYING WOOD AND GETTING FURNITURE MADE AT HOME IS WELL TAKENBUT THESE DAYS FEWER BUYERS HAVE FOOD KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE WOOD AND MORE AND MORE SELLERS DUPE BUYERSIt is no rocket science Lavi. Half a dozen visits and you'll know the general difference.ALSO IF THE FURNITURE TO BE MADE IS LARGE IN FOLUME AND MAGNITUDE, IT STILL MAKES SENSE TO DO SO, BUT FOR 1-2 PEICES, IT DOES NOT SEEM COMMERCIALLY VIABLE
If you consider durability and quality, i think it is worth. Such made furniture last for generations. If not at home, at least in known workshops.FURTHER, WORKING WITH WOOD REQUIRES SPACE AND MAKES A HUGE MESS, WHICH MOST PEOPLE LIVING IN FLATS ARE NOT ABLE TO SUSTAIN OVER A LONG PERIODAgree. It is not possible in flats. This is one of the disadvantages of the flat systems.AND ALSO BIGGER WORKSHOPS HAVE MUCH BETTER TOOLS THAN INDIVIDUAL SMALLER CARPENTERS WHO WORK AT SITES LIKE HOMESYes. But such tools are not inevitable for home furniture.MY HUSBAND IS A BIG FAN OF GETTING FURNITURE MADE AT HOME, BUT HE TOO, THESE DAYS, OPTS FOR A SEMI OUTSOURCING MODEL BECAUSE OF THE ABOVE REASONS, BY USUALLY GETTING THE STRUCTURE MADE OUTSIDE AND SUPERVISING THE POLISHING WORK AT HOME. BUT EVEN THIS MODEL WORKS ONLY IF YOU KNOW OF A RELIABLE WOOD SELLERYes. This option is practically best these days. We mostly opt for this.ALSO SHEESHAM OR THE INDIAN ROSEWOOD IS CONSIDERED TO BE STRONGER AND MORE DURABLE THAN TEAK. INDIAN RAILWAY SLEEPING BIRTHS USE SHEESHAM WOOD BECAUSE OF THEIR STRENGTH AND DURABILITY. THEY ARE ONE OF THE BIGGEST USERS OF THIS WOODSheeham is good and strong. But it has more use for large scale purposes.BURMA TEAK IS CONSIDERED THE BEST VARIETY OF TEAK.BUT FOR THE PAST MANY YEARS BURMA TEAK IS NOT SENT OUT OF BURMA, MOSTLY BECAUSE OF ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES. THE CP OR THE CENTRAL PROVINCE TEAK OR THE NAGPUR TEAK IS THE BEST IN INDIA. BUT LIKE I SAID, MORE WOOD IS PASSED OFF AS CP TEAK THAN IS ACTUALLY GROWN 😆
😆 New Burma teak is non existent like belgian cut diamonds. We have to make do with what is locally available. But even that is better than the other varieties of wood especially the processed wood that is used in most showrooms that wilts away in a few years.DIAMONDS TOO NEED TO BE PURCHASED FROM SOMEONE RELIABLE AND KNOWN, HENCE THE CONCEPT OF FAMILY JEWELLER 😉 I GUESS
Very true. You need to know a reliable jeweller. The quality of diamonds sold even in the big jewellery showrooms in Chennai is pathetic. The glow and even the fine craftsmanship is average only.AS REGARDS SILKS, TO GO TO THE ACTUAL WEAVER HAS MANY MANY ADVANTAGES, OF COURSE, BUT IS MOSTLY CUMBERSOME BECAUSE OF DISTANCE ISSUES. BUT WHEN ONE IS VISITING PLACES KNOWN FOR SILKS LIKE BENARES ETC. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO GET A REFERENCE AND BUY FROM WEAVERS. LOVELY EXPERIENCE TOO. LAST YEAR I VISITED BENARES AND ADIANA, OUR FORUM FRIEND, GAVE ME A REFERENCE AND I WAS ABLE TO GET SOME LOVELY STUFFYes. Reliability and reference is needed. But the quality you get when you buy directly from the looms, is unmatched even in the best showrooms.
