Hey Lashy,

Another gem of a chapter! 👏
Loved the way Sahiba dealt with the wood merchant/carpenter... you really researched the wood types thoroughly... she is such a perfect match for the Sahib...

Another gem was the way both of them dealt with the merchants and how Harkha'a heart started to thaw oh so little! Hope these kind of realizations, increases the heat to make that heart thaw a little faster...

But the most touching part of the chapter came with the laddu part... Poor Khan Sahib got dealt with another blow of his truth coming out immaturely and Heera had one more instance to doubt him... when I read the way Khan Sahib offered his explanation of savoring that one laddu, it almost brought a tear to my eye! Poor guy, cannot catch a full break at all! And the effect of that simple and heartfelt words was spot on on 'Heera'

Please keep these coming sooner... your 12 days are getting stretched longer and longer... whatever it is, please don't follow PBD's suit 😡 we will probably never know who the attacker is there 😔

BIG 🤗

AMK... has reclusive manners - is this why his advances have this effect? Or is he predictable?

[On a side note - Jhanu ka, I know... but Sandy your lines above were such a 'pleasant' surprise to me, you cannot imagine... 😉]

There is a saying na, the lesser you talk, the more you are listened to. ( Meaning Kal and i will harldly be listened to 😭)

AMK is highly restrained. He doesn't speak his heart out, except under desperate circumstances. His 'marry me' came when he HAD to convince her to accept him. And this time because he just saw her softening down and didn't want to lose that slight gain of trust and warmth. In such situations, his feelings push him to make advances. AND most importantly his feelings are genuine and not to please. ( unlike the i was admiring you for an hour 😡) That makes his advances appealing and his sudden outbursts different from his staid manners makes us go Awww...

Of course, I am no furniture expert but this is what I gathered from reading a few different sources...😳

Rosewood refers to the wood of different trees. (Somewhere I read there's almost 20 different types or Rosewood - Mahogany is in fact a kind of rosewood and so is Sheesham. But Sheesham is one of the more-affordable varities)

An excerpt -

Rosewood is essentially a type of hardwood. Rosewood is named as such due to the fact that the older trees have a very sweet and rich aroma, which is reminiscent of roses. Rosewood is best known for its dark brownish and/or reddish hue with darker veining. Sheesham is essentially a type of rosewood.

In terms of quality wood, Sheesham is one variety that comes closest if ever a comparison be done with those of teak or mahogany. The best part of Sheesham furniture is its characteristic of grain-like lines that provides a rich and distinct look when carved into pieces. That apart, this Indian rosewood ropes in good strength and durability thus making this hardwood a good option in the manufacture of furniture. It can also easily be patched up whenever the need arises. When it comes to affordability, here again Sheesham wins over as prices are lesser compared to other heavy timbers.

Teak, however, is not a kind of rosewood. And there's different opinions on which is more expensive - rosewood/mahogany/teak... I guess it depends on where the wood's sourced from and the craftsmanship.

Of course you could have an excellently made Sheesham table more expensive than a very poorly made rosewood/mahogany table... but still... but on the whole, Sheesham is more affordable than these three - that's something I came across in at least three 'wood-working' websites!

Also, I would think that very old and traditional wood workers would stick to the three expensive ones I mentioned... since most of historical furniture found in museums and pictures belong to these varieties.. 😳

With every new chapter we learn something new , thanks to lashy di 👏👏👏

Sheesham is comparitively lighter in colour and is grained differently.

Sheesham is dense but porous and susceptible to wood insects. Due to its after work quality when sealed and dyed, it is often sold as genuine high quality rosewood.

Apart from the grains, the smell of the two differ when not polished. And you will also hear slightly different sounds when you knock against then. And carving is smoother and finer in the higher quality rosewood.

Nevertheless, Sheesham is also a type of rosewood though at the lower end of the spectrum and cheaper. The wood merchant even with all his dislike for Mughals wouldn't have dared to suggest country wood for the Mansabdar. His suggesting Sheesham was most natural. Not disrespectful, but expression of displeasure . Great job Lashy - all the background study.👏

Thank you Sandhya di for explaining this so beautifully in detail .😳
