The heading for the front page lead story in the Times of India today reads Vegetable seller's son from Tamil Nadu high jumps to para gold in Rio, and the inside reports too are excellent. I was so glad to see his mother, a single parent, getting her share of recognition and praise.

The last times we won gold medals in the Paralympics were in 1972 and in 2004. So this is really big news. I am sure a lot of corporate support will be forthcoming, for not just Mariayappan Thangavelu, but for others like him, especially from Tamil Nadu, and of course govt. support as well.

Such wonderful news! I had seen these reports in the net editions of our papers just around the time I saw Lashy's post and Saraswathi Akka's curtain raiser from The Hindu as well, but the ToI front pager on a Sunday morning will get an enormous number of eyeballs.

Yes, wickedly funny, but oh so subtly! Reminded me of the Gina Lollobrigida film about her three ex-boyfriends all laying claim to her one and only daughter. The name escapes me at the moment.

Akka, you are a veritable gold mine of all kinds of stuff. The word cornucopia should have been coined expressly for you!😉

The titles and honours you have crowned me with today, are really very great.. Their weight is so heavy that I am not able to carry them on my head..

For my haikus...awarding the title"Indian Haiku National Treasure"..

Next, that was a clever add on to the Playboy cartoon and Saraswathi Akka's lines for the nurses. Methinks the baby is still on the way, last I checked the JA website did not notify its arrival!😉
