I read the stories of your families, about their early marriages and the blood run cold ... I'm so sorry for all those poor young girls, deprived of their own dreams, lives, love!
I know that with me this never would have happened. I had a great dad, and his love gave me such a nature that I never "caved" under such requirements.
But I'm afraid to imagine if I had been born in another family, in another country, in another time... But I'm afraid to imagine, if my daughter or granddaughter which be a child!!!, as a child would have been legally permitted to rape. I can't consider such a relationship as a family.
In Russia before the revolution traditions differ from the Caucasus and Central Asia (there was also polygamy and early marriage), but parents also had the right to decide the fate of daughters. In 18-19 century were also early marriages.
The Soviet Union in the West have always tried to imagine as the "evil empire." But in fact, Russia is the first country that liberated women, gave the right to choose their own life, to get an education. To respect oneself ! Don't be a commodity. The revolution gave an opportunity for women of the Caucasus and Central Asia to receive an education, not to be a commodity and an incubator.
Of course, we have a woman still remains in a more rigid framework, than a man. And to occupy a high position she has to be several times better and smarter, under the same conditions.

Zhanna these were the stories from 118th-19th centuries 😳... thankfully situation has changed (though in some villages sometimes this is still prevalent... we hear it in the news!)
