Tilak Ceremony: Thanks to you and Devki for drawing my attention to this lovely scene. I had completely missed this gem of an interaction between Jalal and Mainavati in my earlier viewing. How gentle were Jalal's eyes when he looked at Mainavati and reassured a petrified mother about the well being of her daughter. if it were possible, I fell even more in love with this Jalal... Now who says he has no Dil ?😳. Surprisingly Mainavati was wonderful too 😲

This scene was also very poignant for me, because we know how much respect and faith Akbar must have had for "Real Mainavati" to send his one month old infant son Daniyal all the way to Amer to be raised by her for a few years. This to me is a startling fact given how precious Akbar's kids especially his sons were to him. How much he must have trusted the Ameri's to do this. And what an honor he bestowed on Mainavati who is not even an immediate family member.

Two Sharts: UFFF!!! Natkiya Rupantar at its Best!!!

Who cares if this happened in real history or not! I was at the edge of my seat for this scene!!! Loved loved loved every minute of this drama. Jalal pacing like a caged lion before he gives a killer smirk and says " Aap ki sharte bahut badi hein Shehzadi"
Jodha was magnificent and gorgeous as well. Paridhi nailed the scene with her small and very subtle changes in expression from triumph to utter despair.

Jodha: By episode 34 I had starting loving Jodha and was rooting for her vigorously. Yes her decision to burn the Joda was rash and Impulsive but utterly human. How can you blame her?? She has been under unimaginable stress...First the shock of receiving the kata hua sar of Surya...then the petrifying spectacle of seeing the reflection of your worst enemy as your prospective groom. The worst of all , your family who you trust completely deceives you into this alliance. She has not had any time to recover from the shock and in comes Maham with her arrogant barbs... and Jodha snaps and is pushed over the edge. Cannot blame her at all. After this mental breakdown of sorts she does recover and conducts herself with grace and dignity during the shaadi.

Shyamala it does not matter whether 16th century girls had a say in choosing their life partners or not. What matters is that in this show, Jodha has been raised pampered, privileged and with a lot of freedom and respect from her adoring family. It is entirely reasonable for her to expect a say in who she marries. We are after all judging her actions based on the show and not real history of 16th century India.

Shaadi ceremony of Heer Kunwari and Akbar: You are correct in saying that this episode was short on substance but long on spectacle. It was also very very long on significance. Loved every minute of this episode. The Chemistry between these two was electrifying and boy do they look amazing in a single frame together. If you get the time do look at Abhay's post where he draws our attention to Akbar's horoscope in the Akbarnama. His horoscope predicts his marriages with the rajas of India which will result in the birth of many princes and most importantly which leads to "increasing relish of friendship and love❤️ ❤️"- so you see Shyamala this was a match made in heaven
Whew these episodes have brought forth the romantic in me with a vengeance. I am loving every bit of this 😊😊😊

Thanks once again for doing this despite the obvious strain on your joints.

Preethi,
I love ur views always and this one is no exception😊
You've said an interesting point,as we are talking abt only REEL Jodha and REEL Akbar,we can't analyse their behavior vis-a-vis the real circumstances back then.
Abhay's post was a bliss to read which reinforced that Akbar and MUZ shared a special bond😃which needs no monument(like Taj Mahal) to showcase their love❤️

Mandy, adi , myviewprem - I for one definitely believe Akbar is his own creation - There are no two ways about it. His other Rajput wives are not much known or publisized as they could not create the same impact that HK did which to my mind is attributable to Salim. The serial's characterization has erased any softer romantic hues that I want to attach to this relationship.
But that's another story.
A man who had Navratnas and created revolutionary systems in governance, taxation and finance and such a multi faceted strong personality could not have been asked to agree to conditions by anyone.

Inside agra fort they all followed their religious practices and also their festivals like holi, diwali, dusserha and rakhi
I doubt jodha had that much power to put any shartein or ask anything to akbar for initial few years.
Because Akbar was a casanova till his late 30s atleast and was not one woman man to listen only to jodha. All this freedom he gave his wives was a political tactic to assuage the rajpuths. And he married two three more rajputh princess in same year he married Hira Kunwari. So we cannot conclusively say he allowed freedom listening to her. That was a well thought out political strategy and there is no gaurantee that he immediately allowed his wives to follow religious freedom. May be through the months and years he slowly allowed them religious freedom to get more rajpuths into matrimonial alliance with him.
Rahim, Bairam Khan's son was born to a lady that belonged to Lord Krishna's family. Rahim was tutored in hindu philosophy and was a Krishna follower from beginning(as his mom belonged to that family and not because Hira Kunwari introduced him to Lord Krishna etc)

very good post - your responses are rooted in reality and pragmatism - I always like them - Loaded with Info too.
Rahim's Krishna Bhakthi is again attributable to him only I think. It cannot be forced from outside.

jaya agree in toto! in my opinion he did take everyone's advice esp the ones he trusted and and that could include HK along with his 9 gems or even his mother, salima or even ruk for that matter..but the end decision was his and he would take advice from the ones that knew what they were doing in their respective fields and why would he take advice regarding financial matters from tansen and not toda mal?..similarly why would he just take advice from jodha and not other important females in the harem?..i think HK was a prominent figure in the harem but Akbar definitely never walked holding her finger like shown in the show which is an insult to such a great emperor to be portrayed as a baby walking holding mama's finger!

i think Akbar's real love was his ambition of conquering hindustan and then being a fair and just ruler on the grounds of equality given to all religions cast and creed! and how can a workaholic like him create or leave amar prem kahanis with his wives or concubines?

the wedding was grand and one of the best in terms of tv standards! and that is why this show oozed richness in the initial episodes which died down after the major leap!

Aunty,
Thanks for such a marvellous analysis of astounding Shaadi and pre-wedding stuff😊

I enjoyed reading ur post and others' views on these set of episodes thoroughly.

Keeping aside all the characters for a while,I must say all the actors were fairly good in these episodes including mithai wala and his assistant😆
Jo's brothers except BD, were not up to the mark and Ashwini's expressions were lil OTT😔

Paridhi and Rajat were so good that no adjectives are enough to praise. For me,they are the best couple onscreen and compliment each other very well.

You've described everything perfectly and I have nothing to add aunty.I didn't give much thought to the aftermath of Jodha burning Shaadi ka joda and her 2 conditions until I read ur post.

You rightly said that she forgot her statements made earlier to her baapusa and acted unwisely. She must have thought of Amer's future and the consequences of her act.

But like few other friends,I too feel she could not be blamed entirely. She was ready to marry anyone irrespective of their age, looks, nature etc provided,he is a Rajput and could gift her Jalal ka sar thus helping Amer.(She failed to perceive the strength of Jalal or may be she had high confidence in fellow Rajputs).
She acted responsibly as a princess and comforted her father. This shows her respect and immense trust she has on Bharmal, but doesn't relieve Bharmal & Co from their responsibility.
She might not have thought that her father had chosen this path to save Amer when she stopped him from mentioning the name of veer yogdha. She is deadly against marrying a mughul, that too jallad whom she loathes.(even though he is extremely charming and dashing who has invaded her mind from the time she saw him at the Gangaur😉😆)

So,her reaction is not that unwarranted,IMO.She was deceived by her family and enraged by Maham's attitude later. All those jewels and gifts infuriated her more and reminded the insult they were subjected to by mughuls.Everything was so unexpected, disturbing and shocking to her.(I'm glad she burnt that dress. The so called unique and special one was nothing when compared to the one she wore😆)
By the way,Abhay has mentioned that the date of birth of MUZ mentioned on the internet is wrong. It was in mid 1546 and not 1542.

Her two conditions for marriage was actually a planned and calculated move unlike the burning of Shaadi ka joda.May be,she thought Jalal wouldn't harm Amer if he himself backs off from this alliance.
One thing is clear to Jalal now,she is not an ordinary princess or like his other begums who die for his one glimpse. She will not give up without putting up a fight.
Jalal made clear to Jodha that he will get what he wants,no matter what.

I feel Jalal wouldn't have waged a war on Amer even if he had to back off as he doesn't want the name of Rajputs to be given a higher place in the history. He fears this more than the damage to Mughul's fame which is evident from his conversation with badiammi.

Of course,Jodha doesn't know what Jalal thinks,so I'm not sure whether she believed they could continue their support to Mughul Sulatanat without any relationship or she failed to think of Amer.

I agree with everything else aunty like Maham's impatience to slap Adham amidst the marriage preparations and others.

I hate this Maham😡 and once again Jalal was shown dumb.He should've doubted Adham's over action.

Another interesting point that was raised by someone on Harshu's thread is Sharif's behavior. No where he feels jealous or enraged for not being able to marry Amer ki Shehzadi. He is only irritated with Hindu's rituals and jealous that Adham was given a chance to perform ritual but not him.Only after few days,he starts scheming against Jodha-Jalal and we all know his stupid acts later.

The whole shaadi looked every bit a shaahi one and I just couldn't take my eyes off from the gorgeous couple just like Jalal did with Jodha😉.

The last scene b/w Jalal and his cute little saalis was lovely and as u said,so much of hungama, for juthis was unnecessary.

My dear Bindu and Preeti,

Yes, but the reel Jalal and the reel Jodha were not situated in the 21st century, were they? They were firmly planted in 1562 AD. So we cannot possibly divorce their behaviour from the times they are supposed to live in.

If not, why does the reel Bharmal condemn the reel Jodha so sharply for having shamed him and the Amer royal family because of her midnight boat ride with Suryabhan, so much so that he wants to strangle her? That she is innocent of any wrongdoing makes no difference to his condemnation. Was he not behaving according to the 16th century code? So how can the reel Jodha's behaviour now be delinked from her era and its mores?

And Preeti, when you say that " Jodha has been raised pampered, privileged and with a lot of freedom and respect from her adoring family. It is entirely reasonable for her to expect a say in who she marries. We are after all judging her actions based on the show and not real history of 16th century India", you are contradicted by none other than the reel Jodha herself. Remember when she tells Sukanya that their parents might joke about taking their consent, but the fact remained that their marriages would be settled solely by their parents?

That was the rule then, and when they settle her reel marriage with Suryabhan, they do not take her consent in advance but merely inform her, and the reel Bharmal later slaps the reel Jodha down bluntly when she tries to lobby for a Suryabhan-Sukanya wedding. He pointedly remarks that she has been given far more freedom than was common in their families, and she should not mistake this freedom for licence. This is for the reel Jodha, mind!

But my argument condemning the reel Jodha for the way she behaves is not based on this point. It is that she indulges in badi badi baatein about unconditional readiness to sacrifice her all for Amer, and when the time comes to walk the talk, she falls down and badly so. After listening to her mother's homily - which is full of plain home truths about what would happen to Amer if she backed out now - she comes out and burns the shaadi ka joda.

She would have been well served if Jalal had let Adham and Sharifuddin loose on Amer, the stupid woman. Then she could have hugged her maan samman to herself and checked out the thousands of the dead and dying in Amer. She is nearly 20 which in those days was well past the age of reason ,and of marriage too
( I have noted the attempts to make her 16, whereas the reel Jodha is said to be 17+), and I will cut her NO slack at all for her folly. She does not deserve to have escaped so easily for an act of such colossal irresponsibility.

And what special dignity does she display during the wedding, pray? It is her father's word and his honour at stake, and she still nearly makes a scene by refusing to place her hand in Jalal's. Maybe she was expected to make a bhashan in the lagna mandap about how she had been forced into this marriage with a kroor Jallad? And should be given brownie points because she refrained? She was probably saving up her bhashans for later😉.

If I could have got at her, I would have laid this reel Jodha across my knee and given her 60 juicy wallops with the stoutest slipper I could find! And a real slipper!😉

I have no idea if there really was a Jalal-Jodha love story or not - there are so many mutually contradictory historical sources that anyone can take his or her pick - but even if there was, I am sure it did not begin like this.

And Preeti, get your fill of loving this reel Jodha while you can. It is soon going to become difficult for you to stay the course!😉

Thanks a lot for your concern about my joints. The way they behave over the next few weeks or months, especially my fingers, will probably decide how long I can continue inflicting these analyses on all of you.

Shyamala/Aunty
