This unnecessary prostration wasn't needed and nobody does also. Hamida, though surprised by her elder daughter in law's action, still blessed her after she got up from the ground. But her gaze hardened once Jodha came in her view. Watching her elder sister seeking blessings from Hamida, Jodha also came forward to touch her feet. But this time Hamida took a step back, probably to save herself from being touched and uttered in a low voice, "Khush raho."
Then she turned towards the elder man, "Namaste. The children are very lucky that you came here."
Mr. Ray stood up from his chair and folded his hands in respect, "This time I was busy, so couldn't inform before coming but next time when we will come, we'll surely inform you before hand."

di hamida is a twisted character... You will come to know as the story will progress. Her feelings about jodha will be revealed later but for now she didn't let her touch her feet as one of her family members went to England, as is mentioned in the previous chapters... In those days going outside the country meant giving up caste... Thus hamida didn't let jodha touch her feet...
