CHAPTER- 4

For Jalal it seemed that his world has come to a halt. He could not believe what is ears had just heard a moment ago. He rewinds the sentence the nurse had just spoken to hum to comprehend that his wife is pregnant. He asked the nurse for conformity because he did not trust his ears - Pardon me, Could Please repeat what you had said recently? The nurse replies politely- Sir, your wife Mrs Jodha Mohammad is five and a half month pregnant. There that very moment Jalal guilt correction mammoth guilt increased into unbearable guilt. He wants that the ground should swallow him up or for heaven's sake he should stop breathing or this very moment his heart should stop beating, but Alas! Nothing of this sort happens. He could hear his heart beating against his ribs and now he doubted that his heart will burst because he had a river of emotion in him and this river seemed flooded. He always wanted to be a father he had shared this with Jodha and Rukaiya. He had always seen a polar opposite reaction Jodha would blush crimson red and say him to stop getting naughty and wait for the moment cause she also wants have a child and that child should only be his and Rukaiya got infuriated whenever this topic was touch. This is the reason why for a moment also such a thought did not enter the thresholds of Jalal's mind, he knew how faithful she is towards a relationship. His happiness is on the seventh sky when he finally yet difficulty registers the thought that he is soon going to be a father, but his happiness soon vanishes into thin air when he remembers the painful scene where Jodha is soaked in blood. He gets scared thinking that the blow Jodha Had received during the car accident did that kill their child? The fear of losing his child gripped him correction paralyzed him and he immediately asked the nurse- Is my child alive? Praying continuously to Allah to say yes and it seemed Allah actually heard his prayer. The nurse says- Miraculously your child is alive as well as your wife. Sir could please fill the form otherwise you might lose both your wife and your child. This last line spoken by the nurse gave Jalal chill to his spine and in a jiffy he filled the form and gave it to the nurse. Before going the nurse says- Sir we cannot ensure both lives? But we will try our level best to keep both of them alive. Jalal wants that death should come and take him to meet with eternity; he could not face himself anymore he could not describe the level he had stopped down. Jalal thinks it is damn easy for the nurse to say that your loved one is on the verge of death, but how hard is to register this thought and feel this emotion called fear of losing your loved one. The person who says faces nothing as it is her daily job and the person who hears it faced everything he has ever faced. Tears flow down from his eyes. He tried to control them but, failed to do so. Today it seemed impossible. He sees the bulb outside the operation theatre go green and Jalal sends a prayer to Allah begging him to keep both his child and his wife safe and sound. Jalal sees Sujamal and thinks why he has not informed him that Jodha is pregnant. He knew that he should be angry but due to the amalgam of emotions he did not know which emotion would come out so he suppressed his amalgam of emotions under his calm yet cold tone and spoke- Tumne hume kyon nahi bataya ki Jodha pregnant hai? Sujamal who had no clue till some time before like Jalal broke into tears as guilt had captured him. Guilt that he had never tried to know the reason for his sisters' ill health. His sister , after leaving Jalal when Jodha had come back to Mumbai she usually remained in the confines of her room and ill. He tried perusing her to go to the doctor but Alas! He always embraced failure. Tears which were on the verge of coming out finally began flowing down his eyes he said in a trembling voice- Hu.. hum nahi ja.. jante the.. Jalal knew Sujamal were well that he is very sensitive and emotional as he had lost his parents at such a young age as well he had a fear correction phobia of losing his loved ones. Now the only loved one his only sister is admitted Jalal could clearly comprehend his psychological state. Jalal even understood that Jodha did not inform anyone about her pregnancy, but failed to comprehend the reason behind it. Jalal says- Koi bat nahi ? Sujamal had always seen Jalal as an elder brother until he ditched his sister. Today he forgot everything and hugged Jalal, Jalal understood that Sujamal needed comfort says- Tumhari Jiji hum dono chod ke kahin nahi jaegi. Voh toh akhir kar Rajvanshi hai na kahan har mane gi. Sujamal breaks the hug and sits down on the chair nearby and thinks it is not only he who is going through immense mental pain it is Jalal also. On, the other hand Jalal thinks what turn has his life taken. His wife and his unborn child are fighting for their life inside the operation theatre and here the joke of his life that he is consoling Sujamal wherein he needs comfort badly than anyone. His whole world is on stake and he being a billionaire he is helpless. He realized that his money can buy every comfort, every leisure but not life. He did not give a damn about the money only he gave damn about his wife and his child. This day of his life is the black day of his life. This day is imbued with pain, revelations and what not that could give Jalal a heart attack. He wishes he should have a time machine so that he could go back in time and set things right. He wants to get out of this imbroglio but nothing could he do except wishing, Helplessness, wanting and mainly cursing himself under his breath. That he is an imbecile fool, a manic, a dope and what not. Nothing soothed his heart which is burning in the fire of guilt. He wants to sooth the fire in him but he is helpless. All he could do right now is nothing but wait for the future chapters of his life to open up. Which might be either disastrous or reviling, but for sometime this question remains question mark and this is infuriating him. After two and half hours the light outside the operation theatre go off Jalal and Jalal who had been hovering around the operation theatre waiting for the operation to end and when he sees' the light of the operation theatre going of he gets paralysed and his heart beat seemed to have lost its normal pace. As, soon as the doctor comes Jalal strikes him with questions- how is my wife and my child? The doctor with a calm tone- The operations was successful Mr. Jalalludin Mohammad but both are critical and their under observation for the next 12 hours that will decide their fate. Jalal gets yet another shock and his heart seemed to fall deeper and deeper in the abyss of pain. Jalal says to the doctor- Please do whatever you want. I will pay how much you ask, but please save my child and wife. The doctor says- I wish life could be saved with the aid of money, but there are few areas where it's effective but in reality it can never get back someone who you loved and your wife is in ICU no. 3. You can go meet her, but you should follow few instructions the nurse will give you plus you can only stay in the ICU only for 20 minutes not even one second than that. Jalal replies - Ok, but inside he felt that who the hell on earth will stop me from spending time with my wife. Jalal entered the ICU and what he sees' make his eyes shine with tears. He sees Jodha living with the help of ventilator. Jalal goes and sits beside her in a stool... To be continued..
