Guess who else's birthday it is this week? Our very own Superstar Rajnikanth on December 12th. So, let's begin the celebrations. (If you didn't know, I am a big fan of the Superstar) ...
The Superstar has his own style ... So I was wondering what would happen if we took Rajni's style and put it to our stylish Jalal. After all how can our Baadshah of Jodha Akbar be far behind the Baadshah of Tamil Cinema. 😉
So, in celebration, you get not one take, but two takes (Hip Hip Hurray!) ... or you could say, suffer through two takes depending on how much you like Rajnikanth 😆
First take, Rajni's punch dialogues on Jalal ... They suit quite well ...
(1) "Summa peru sonnale adhiruthille???!!! " (Doesn't my name send a shiver down your spine?)- Movie: Sivaji
Aaah, there was once a time the name "Jalal" would send a shudder down people's spine at sheer mention ... especially in the beginning of the serial. Now, well, not everyone shudders ... but it still has impact 😆
Remember, how we all had a quick shudder when Jalal looked at Jodha after the dagger-tent encounter that , I will save you from the world, but who will save you from me?
We all know how that turned out 😉
(2) "Naan oru dhadavai sonna nooru dhadavai sonna madhiri." (If I say it once, I've said it a hundred times.)- Movie: Baadshah
Typically, if a Baadshah gives orders everyone listens... in our show, many times he gives the same warning to people over and over again (Ruquaiyya anyone) or has to apologize for his decision (I have lost track counting) 😆
However, in the early days, if he decided, people listened. Once made, it was equivalent to saying it a hundred times. Case in point: how Jalal got married to Jodha. No matter who objected- from Raja Bharmal to Maham Anga- he made them listen. If he decided he would marry Jodha, it was done. There were no two ways about it and we are glad about it. 👏
(3) "Nallavana erukallam annal romba nallavana erukakudathu." (You can be good, but not too good) - Movie: Dharma Durai
And Jalal, that is exactly why I always love you! Teda hai but mera hai! And what was the best track that brought out this flavor but the Amer track ...
I watched this scene recently, before he left for the wedding ...who knew what was in Jalal's mind when he stared at the sun setting in front of him and he told Ruquaiyya he was falling in love with Jodha? Epic intrigue ... his eyes speak another language 😳
... and of course how can we forget the whole track of Sukanya's wedding and Ratanpur Ka Quila ... ⭐️
(4) Eppa varuven, eppadi varuvennu yarukkum theriyadhu, aana varavendiya neratthil correct-aga varuven." (No one knows when I will come, or how I will, but when I come I will come in the right time.)- Movie: Muthu
Most of the time (if the CVs allow Jalal to save the day 😆), his timing is impeccable. Images of how Jalal saved Jodha from her suicide attempt of jumping in the water vividly comes to mind ...
And , who can forget the Atifa track? Kya entry maari, our Jalal as he caught Jodha as she fell.
(5) "En vazhi , thani vazhi." ("My way is the original (a unique) way!)- Movie: Padaiyappa
This is one of my favorite Rajni dialogues ... that he truly travels the path less traveled.
Oh yes, our Jalal travels a unique path indeed ... A trail-brazer in his reforms and liberal ideals, Jalal truly stands apart and that is why he was called Akbar by his people. What an exciting day it was for all of us, including Jodha, to watch Jalal named "Akbar" by his awaam for his liberal and broad thinking. 👏
Second take, Jalal singing to Rajni's tunes ... of course, with Jodha
(1) "Thanga magan indru singa nadai pottu, Arugil arugil vandhaan" (Movie: Baadshah)
One of my favorite Rajni songs, where Rajni walks with confidence (like a lion) to take his love with him ...
My favorite Jalal walk ... when he walks towards Jodha practicing her sword fighting skills ... what a walk, what a confidence ... and when he came close to Jodha, he gave the look that he was ready to conquer what he thinks is his (Jodha) ... Wait, not so fast!
And Jodha was not one to back-off! Jodha's spirit was amazing in this scene and Jalal was definitely impressed.👏
(2) "Sundari kannal aur sedhi" (Movie: Dalapathi)
This is a beautiful romantic melody starting with the hero asking his love for a message through the eyes ... And that was truly the best language for our jodi.
My favorite speaking of the "eyes" between Jodha and Jalal was the scene in the Angoori Bhaag after the Ben fiasco ... I really have nothing to say to describe that scene. It can only be experienced. You could feel the lilting love, that never quite reached the lips, just like their hands that could not quite touch above the fire. 😳
(3) "Nilave mugam kaatu" (Movie: Yejamaan):
A beautiful song of Rajni asking the Moon to shine on his wife's face after a loss ...
This song, speaks to the times Jalal has stood by Jodha, during her first suicide, fake pregnancy track, and after the death of the first twin, Haasan.
Yes, he has not been with Jodha in every troubled time ... however, he has been there many a time as well and this song beautifully depicts. 😳
(4) "Style style super style tha" (Movie: Baadshah):
Who is the king of style, our very own Jalal! 😎 Enough said!
This song has the heroine singing about the style of our hero ... I could not help remember the scene where Jodha is impressed by Jalal's style has he gets ready for the polo match ... now that was an awesome scene. Jodha was completely "ghaayal" for Jalal's look ... while Jalal took all the efforts to look his stylish best. 😉
(5) Okay, this one is fun : "Mona Gasolina" (no this is not a typo😆, but the song from Rajni's Lingaa that will release this Friday for his birthday)
There seems to be some inside jokes in this song with some crazy lyrics translated as:
- "Is your eyes a compass?" "Marg Darshan" anyone ... Bonus points if you can guess what I am referring to 😉
- "You have hacked by heart" ... Perfect for Jalal, which is why he never knew if he had it or not 😆
Okay, okay. Let me end on a serious note ... "En Mannava" or "My King of Kings" from Lingaa is a sweet romantic song with a Rajasthani twist to it. I can just imagine Jodha dancing with Jalal in Rajasthani style to this tune.
There are three times I loved Jodha's Rajasthani dancing:
- At Sukanya's wedding ... as Jalal watched secretly 😳
-When Jalal , or rather Badal, imagined her as a banjaaran in the epic Badal-Kajri track 😳
-When Jodha danced among the group and tried to hide herself from Jalal in the Amer separation track ...now of course, Jalal knew where his Jodha was hiding 😉
In any case, this was a fun thread ... to celebrate Rajni, favorite scenes from Jalal-Jodha's journey so far, and have some fun in general ...
So, I hope you will join me in the celebrations - feel free to share your favorite Rajni moments or of our favorite jodi, Jodha-Jalal. Or anything else you like!
