Chapter 5
Aastha and Veer had been moving around the Haveli for sometime now, with Veer guiding like typical guide at Taj Mahal or any other tourist place for that matter. Veer kept his cool and didn't say a word other than where to go next and what was it. To Aastha it was awkward, annoying and disturbing.
She had never once faced so strong emotions to anyone in her life. Just as they reached the corner of fourth corridor, she stopped and turned to look at him.
"Alright Veer!"
"Whats wrong?"
"Listen. I know, this is uncomfortable and even awkward. I guess we started of with wrong foot. I am sorry for what happened that day. You really freaked me out and delhi boys aren't gentlemen either. I was just trying to defend myself, or that's just the way I am. Sorry if I bothered you. Can we just put it past us?"
Veer smiled. "Actually I am sorry, I was very happy that day.. I had finished my internship and I was coming back home. I didn't know my ecstasy would actually create an accident.. and I didn't behave like I should be either.. anyway.. as you said its past us now.. well.. Hi.. I am Veer" he said forwarding his hand. Aastha smiled and shook hands with him.
"Aastha"
There was something about her. the glow in her eyes, that shine in her face or aura of dignity she carries around, he didn't know. It made him want to know her better. Her straight-forwardness made him like her instantly. She wasn't whiny, clingy or dependent type. She was a passionate woman. A woman who could create great love story.
Wait love story? God veer! Come back to earth! He chided himself.
"And That's the old Haveli.. we built the new one attached to the old one. So that it would feel like the same and we could protect the old haveli from going to government hands.. we actually had long case running on who should get palace rights you know.." Veer said pointing to the stair case that led to huge corridor of more than hundreds of years old palace.
Aastha was suddenly disturbed. That corridor looked familiar. Infact it was magnetic, there was strong force that pulled her to explore every inch of that palace.
"How old is it?" she asked absent mindedly walking up the stair case.
Veer shrugged, "somewhere around 400 I guess.. that palace was reconstructed several times and around 100 years ago, Dadaji built this new one attached to the old one. Because of that we could recover most of the parts of that palace. Half of it has already been ruined.. only the other half as you can see is saved over these years.."
Aastha had already started moving towards the palace. Veer alarmed. "Oh Aastha.. you can't go there"
He pointed out to the huge door that seemed it would fall off any moment.
"Why not?" she asked instantly.
"Its the rule of house.. no one goes there unless its Navratri. The Mandir inside that palace needs to be opened every year, that's the only time we ever go there..."
Aastha felt the voices ring back in her head.
"Mohan! Darwaza Kolo!! Muje tumare kamra dekna hai.."
"Mohan!! Tum muje ab nahi pakad sakte.. hum tumare haveli, tumse bhi acche jaante hai!!"
"Meera.. tum meri jaan ho! Pata hai tumein?"
"Aastha!! Are you alright?"
Aastha had turned pale and was sweating profusely.
"Ah.. i.. can I get a glass of water?"
As veer turned to leave, Aastha felt a force enter her body. It cajoled her to open the huge door and enter the age old palace/haveli.
As if she knew every door, every corridor, she kept moving until she found the right one. The door was closed and it was saved from any alterations that had been done to the palace. She knew whose room it was.. Mohan's room..
Pushing the doors open she entered inside. And memories came flooding into her mind.
"Meera? Tum! Tum yahan kya kar rhi ho?"
"hehehe! Dekha.. kaha tha na mein tumein se bahut jald milungi!! Lo.. agayi..!"
"Par kaise?"
"Tumse accha muje koi samaj nahi sakta! Aao meera humare paas baito.. saath baitke suryaasth dekthe hai.."
"Hum humesha aise hi saath rahenge na meera?"
"Aagar saath chut bhi jaaye, hum tumein nahi chodenge. Tumein dundthe hue zaroor ayenge.. tum sirf mere ho mohan.. deklena.. qayamat se qayamat tak.. humari pyaar ki ahat humesha yahan.. gunjthi rahegi.."
Aastha shivered as she saw Mohan and Meera sitting side by side on the bedroom balcony and staring at the sunset.
She jerked and took back steps until she hit the wall. She could feel the love of the two.. she could feel connected until she saw Meera turn towards her. whole world stood still as she found herself as Meera. She was meera. It was her.. that voice was hers. Only 400 years apart. Aastha was meera. And mohan?
Before she could see the face, veer jumped in.
"Oh My god! What the hell are you doing here? I went crazy searching you everywhere! Aastha!! Answer me!" Veer shook her bringing her back to reality.
Meera and mohan was gone. The room was camaflouged with spider webs and white cloth.
"I.. I.. don't know.. I don't know how I came here.. veer.. please take me back!" she begged him almost clinging onto his shoulders hiding herself from the eyes of meera.
"Um.. yeah sure.. please don't come here alone again okay?"
Aastha nodded. And they left with veer holding her close his heart. One last time she looked back and found Meera standing at the doorway with a devastated look on her face.

"Aastha? You look pale!" Her mother noted as they were headed towards their rooms. Aastha shrugged, "Tired actually.. the haveli is so big."
Sheetal chuckled, "when you were kid, you used to run around the haveli as if it was your playground.. we all lived here back in those days.." Sheetal reminisced.
Aastha stopped on her tracks curiously, "then what happened? Why did we leave? Why don't I have any memory of being here?"
Sheetal was caught off guard. She looked everywhere but her daughter. "Ah.. your dad got transferred.. and we left immediately. Moreover, this is my brothers house.. Shaadi ke baad ladki kaise mayke mein reh sakthi hai?"
Aastha nodded and went to her bedroom. Anandi who had heard the conversation patted on sheetal's shoulder. "Veer doesn't remember anything either. Its okay its for their own good."
Sheetal shook her head, "Aastha is getting the attacks again"
Ananadi looked at her shocked. "what? I thought.. it.. ended in their childhood.. Guru ji clearly mentioned there wont be any episodes again.. then.. how come.."
"I don't know bhabhi.. since she started her research on Rajasthan folklore, she is distressed. She wont say, but I know.. something is haunting her.. and I have feeling, that chudail is back.."
"I want Vaidehi to see her.. No one can know whats going on with Aastha better than Vaidehi"
"Fine... I wil arrange a meeting.. infact why don't we all visit Vaidehi? Its been long since we last saw her.. it would be a family outing.. Aastha will feel refreshed trust me.."

"Who came?"
"Aastha as they say.. Jagat and Sheetal's daughter.." the Maid informed Maya.
Maya woke up with jolt. "NO!"
"Yes maya.. its her again."
"I cant believe this! How can she come back?"
"Maya.. I hate to say this.. it seems like wedding is on the book for both of them!"
Maya caught the maid's neck and pressed it "watch what you say. Veer is mine and only mine. No aastha whatsoever can steal him away from me. You get that?"
The maid laughed, "what I feel is, Aastha has already stolen him away.."
"I need to go somewhere" she said and hurriedly left the cottage.

"So you actually study history and you are infact doing a research on rajasthan folklore and you don't know who Uday singh, Triveni singh, Arya Vardhan singh and Bharthi vardhan singh are?" veer asked her incredulously. Aastha frowned. Vardhan?
"Veer, aren't you Veer Vardhan singh?" Aastha asked.
Veer rolled his eyes. "Woman! Those are our ancestors! We are from Vardhan clan!! God! Where were you when we were made to study our family tree?"
Aastha was shocked. Vardhan clan? Which means, Mohan Vardhan Singh!
Oh no!
"Tell me more about it!!" Aastha requested him.
"Listen. I got no time for that. I need to take these pictures so if you want to be with me, be quite!"
Veer tried to capture the rarest butterflies and birds that came into their garden. Aastha was with veer thinking she could see around the place. But veer was in his own little world. But the information which he gave made thousand bells ring in her head.
With a sigh she followed him quietly.
The growing silence made it difficult for him. he was expecting her to be insisting atleast, but she said nothing and followed his commands like a soldier. Why are girls so confusing?
"Fine! I will tell you!" he conceded.
Aastha smiled.
"Actually lets go see, Dadaji.. he is best to tell stories. You can hear all about kishangad from him.."
Suddenly out of nowhere aastha asked "and roopgarh?"
Veer was taken aback. He stood staring at her like she had grown two heads. There were maids around them who stared them with curious eyes as they heard the name roopgarh.
Veer placed his palm on her mouth "Sssh!! No one talks about it. Roopgarh is curse to our family. So please do not take that name.."
Aastha stared at him while he said it. It was like he recited a childhood poem.
With lowered voice she asked, "but you don't believe in it.."
She had straight out read his mind. Taking her away from prying eyes they went towards the small pond filled with ducks in the other side of the garden.
With a sigh he agreed, "you are right I don't. I and everybody else in this haveli has been told not to even take its name. there is some history to it. But that is all it is to me. History. I am a practical person, and I seriously don't believe in this stuff."
"which means you wont believe in reincarnation either." Aastha noted.
"yes. I don't.. but why do you ask?"
Aastha fought an urge to tell him all about her. with a deep sigh she shrugged, "just like that. This place is good. And I love ducks!"
"What are you waiting for? Come feed them along with me"
Aastha obliged with broad smile.
From the terrace, the whole family was watching them joking, smiling, squealing as they fed the ducks. It was beautiful sight.
"I have never seen aastha so happy, so comfortable.." Sheetal smiled.
"She will be very happy in this house trust me.."
"Bhabi, even after knowing what she is going through, are you ready for the proposal?" Sheetal asked with dejected eyes.
Ananadi hit her playfully, "Aastha is the baby I brought up. I taught her to walk, to talk.. don't you forget she first said mami.. which is me.. she may not remember me from her childhood. But she is still my baby. How could I not bring her to his house? Moreover, Veer and Aastha are meant to be. Even guru ji said so. But for me, its my instincts that believes she is my veer's soulmate!"
Sheetal hugged Anandi teary eyed.
