I was just wondering about the foll questions
Can there be true love towards one wife when one is married to 30-40(in case of man singh, udai singh, shah jahan, jehangir) and 300 wives(for Akbar) that too out of own will whether for political reason, friendship, to protect, to give a child name or any other reason?
Can a man continue marrying hundreds of wives and cocubbines and still be in love with one wife whom he married initially?
Does only giving a title like Marian-uz-zamani, wali-nimat or Begum-e-kahaas mean a man loves his wife more than others?
When a woman loves someone she will not even think of another man and still its not considered true love. I am sure majority wives in 16th century shall never think of another man after marriage? Why for man no same criteria? Why a man can marry and still look, care, love, admire another woman and still world consider that his is true love?
Are all society norms only for ladies for wives, daughters, mothers not for son, husband, father?
A father having many wives will it not impact psyche of a child? For a child father-mother are role model that he follow all life.
If insecurity and fear of wife leads to grave crimes like killing baby in womb who is to blame? The insecure wife or the husband who promised to treat all wives equal but changes preferences now and then and is partial towards one or few wives

I feel concepts like love and morals evolved only in recent centuries. Earlier humans were no different from animals. This is why even sons killed fathers and brothers just to get the throne.
Women were owned or traded. They might have been more favourites for beauty or bearing male heir but things like true love were unheard of.

Brute force decided everything, hence men dominated.

I don't think true love is possible when you have loads of women as wives and concubines.

Change and progress has happened only in recent times and even today we have a long way to go in terms of human dignity and egalitarian relations.

16th century has nothing known as true love
womens are used for physical pleasure/abuse...trading...political issues...seduction...baby making machine. ...treated as property

It was such a cruel era for womens

yes in Asian and African and some other continents men still dominate over women. In india its a given that usually decisions happen as per head of family or a father, husband or son or if not married then as per father or brother usually
Some places like kerala are matriarchal that may be because husbands go away to gulf etc to work and women become head of family. But otherwise india is a male dominated society. Just look at number of women in parliament and assembly, just see the streets after 6-7pm even in big cities majorly men roam the streets and its unsafe for women. Society still does not respect single woman and allows them to live.
Look at the number of women in high position in companies very few. So 21st century is not actually all hunky dory. Yes we have one women norm now. But in those days also only royals, nobels or very rich would marry more than a wife. Who could afford more than one wife even in those days. And if you see many super rich people even today marry more than once except that they divorce previous wife or wives that is bexcause that is law of society. So nothing much has changed in affluent familes even nowadays. The only thing is women are more educated and stand ion own feet rather than take all violence from husband and stay back in house.

I beg to differ in that one statement.

One man I knew who lived to his 120s used to say that he had never heard of rape and murder in his times ever (this was in 1920s-30s). In 50 years there would be one murder in a state and it would become a big issue discussed in paper, streets, villages etc.
Similarly, I was reading a book on social ways and it was mentioned in one of them that once a rape case rocked delhi in 17th century and became talk of town because for past many years nothing like that had ever occurred. So if there was no war common people atleast were fairly safe from incidents of rape and murder.
This son killing father and brother etc happens even today for property and power. Just that its become so common that it does not come in paper as often. Else if you read crime statistics of a city you know what happens. And now all things can easily be hidden from society and world because of corruption. So I do not assume that nowadays sons do not kill fathers, brothers.
Atleast in those times sons maintained a limit of respect for fathers and elders. Nowadays its fashionable to misbehave and defy elders, parents, siblings in name of freedom
Women trade and girl child trade goes on in much largers scale in 21st century than before. So even there I do not think 21st century has progressed.
We are lucky to be born in good privileged families who have cared and protected us. But we are the minority citizens. There is rest 70% who are exploited and abused and their story never comes in any paper, news etc because they all focus on stories of privileged 30%

Muslims marry a lot of women, because God gave them the right to polygamy, this is the word of God from the start of Islam to the present day and we as Muslims believe in this thing
