But, here are some reflections over the past week:
I am not exactly sure why the CVs believe to show Jodha strong that Jalal has to be weak or why if I want a stronger Jalal, it is assumed I do not like Jodha being strong.
Imagine the following scenario: Jalal fighting bravely with tact and in the warfront using common strategies to overthrow greater numbers, e.g., ropes, traps, etc. Feeling they are losing, MahaC sneaks on the harem to take the women hostage and then the begums defend themselves. Jalal strong saving the day in the warfront, Jodha strong saving the day in the harem. Who would be unhappy in such a scenario? You would still have drama and suspense.
In any case, we could still have Jalal save himself and Jodha save herself and the begums. Let us hope for the best.
But, regardless, I think there is a case to be made to show a stronger Jalal. I enjoyed the lullaby scene with Jodha comforting Jalal- it was human and real. But, that is only one half of Jalal. I would love to see the strong Shehenshah and Jalal as well in focus.
I am not sure why the CVs forget the TRP audience grew to love this show when both our leads were strong. Jodha was shown strong in her self-respect and decisions while Jalal was also strong and was even shown supporting Jodha as with her suicide, Sukanya's wedding, and religious conversion issue.
And let us not blame Jalal's weakness on his new-found dil. First, he has always had a dil. Second, with this dil and love he was able to fight Abul Mali and his team singlehandedly, blind Abul Mali, punished his mother-like Maham Anga, and waged war against Raja Ramachandra. This new found emotional weakness is purely a discovery of the CVs.
In the end of the day, if this was how it was with Jalal needing Jodha to step in every time to save him then I would feel bad for Jodha that she could not find a husband of her equal. But, I don't think that was the case.
I always loved the tarazu - as I felt it represented Jodha and Jalal in their relationship where both brought equal weight to the relationship. The tarazu is always one unit - as are our Jodha-Jalal and Akdha- but it always more pleasing to see it in balance than having one half on top of another.
I like Jodha and Jalal equally and hence, want them shown as equals.
And I hope the CVs finally wake up and show exactly that. Here is hoping for a stronger Jalal joining an already strong Jodha this week!
