Mandy from what I've read on the forum, Jalal is far from being an emperor in this show. Is he spending days and hours pacifying his wives and voting in harem elections? Voting? An emperor needs to distance himself from these matters. First, he should not have the time, second he can't the type of personality that gets sidetracked with domestic issues. If he loves Jodha above and beyond any other, then fair enough - he's the boss, he should make his preference known and then leave the rest to sort out the details of the harem. Can Hamida Banu not handle all this? He can visit her for 10 minutes at the end of the day if he wants a report.
And what happened to court etiquette?? Does anybody respect the person of the Shahenshah any more? He may be Jalal to them, but his wives and baandhis need to show some deference to him as they even pass him in the corridors!! He was the very embodiment of power and had authority to rule a whole realm but the way they casually deal with him, he could be the bangle seller for all I know.
And we need him to be more purposeful in his walk, not just his talk. The director needs to get him to walk speedily through the harem, like he is a man whose time is precious. He should have more meetings with Atgah Khan at least, if not for any of the nine gems. These are the men who lent Akbar their right hand in support, advice, counsel and loyalty. Scenes with them will automatically help to raise the bar.
I'll mention Jodha here for a minute if you don't mind - she can run the harem, delegate, help with Sujamal issue, whatever, but she can also be shown to be someone who behaves like a queen, with purpose and certainty. Both Ja and Jo are NOT our next door teen boy and girl falling in love. The AkDha scenes can be chemistrilicious, but the rest of the time, they need to be busy ruling and reigning in their spheres of authority.
IF all this happens, I may watch...
