Ela, Thanks for posting. Agree with everything you said especially the lines below

In reality Salim completed his father's tomb in Sikandara beautifully and built a beautiful and a very big tomb for his mother close by. ..Some thing which no mughal emperor has done for his mother not even Jalal for HB..I wonder how will JA serial show all this.

in addtion to his parents tombs, the ONLY mosque he built in his reign is the one for his mother ( the begum Shahi Mosque).

Also the only emperor we know of to do Sajda or complete prostration in front of his mother!!

No ela they will not show any of this in the show. It is beyond them.

When HB died, Akbar was caught up in countering Jahangir / Salim. May be if he had been as free as Salim, he would have built a tomb for his mother.

If we talk in terms of achievements, Akbar's far outweigh Salim's. Salim respected his mother a lot. But so did Akbar. We cannot compare specific acts and say that one person respected his mother more because he did this.

Akbar allowed Gulbadan Begum, Salima Sultan Begum and other ladies of the harem to go for Haj alone for over 3 years, something which no other Mughal emperor did.

Hi Radhika, No one is comparing dear. Especially not Akbar and Jehangir...you know very well how I view Akbar vs Jehangir 😉
Ela was just trying to make a point that for an emperor who did not build much the Tomb he built for his mother stands out. Jehangir too was really ailing when MUZ died and was a total addict by then. I am confident her tomb would have been grander had he been in his prime...just like the mosque he built.
As for the Haj pilgrimage...small correction it was not 3 yrs. IT WAS 7 YEARS!
on a different note.. don't you think it odd that if Salima was raising Murad she would leave him at the tender age of 5 and leave such a small child for 7 yrs ? It definitely punctures the theory of Salima being the biological mother of Murad

I stopped watching Jodha Akbar around the time their misunderstandings cropped up and Akbar reverted to his cruel emperor mode. I've been keeping up with WUs only to see how the story is going, and today I happened to catch an episode. I was so shocked! This show has no comparison to how it used to be! I used to love Jodha Akbar so much. Not only Rajat-Paridhi, all the other actors in the show made it special, but now not even the actors can save it. There is no magic in the show, and the way they're showing Salim in opposition to his parents is just so...wrong. Salim had issues with his father much later in his life, but initially they had a great relationship. As a prince, Salim was quite pampered by everyone and there is no mention of Akbar giving him unreasonable punishments. I don't know which wife of Akbar's was Salim's favorite, but he did have great love and respect towards Jodha/Heer/Harkha/MUZ. It is written that he would greet her every morning by touching her feet, which shows that he respected his mother's religion as much as his father.

Also, Ruqaiyya Begum was never much interested in Salim. It was Khurram, Salim's son that she was attached to. Unlike what the show is showing, Ruqaiyya always had considerable power in Akbar's harem but she was also smart and considerate. She was not cruel and hardhearted. She remained Akbar's favorite till her deathbed. It's the reason she was given Khurram after his birth. Since she was childless, Akbar wanted to fulfill her last wish by giving her a child to care for in her old age. She raised Khurram until he was 13 years old, and then he returned to his father's household. Ruqaiyya and Jodha may have been insecure and jealous as co-wives. It's natural, but if Ruqaiyya had done half as many crimes as the serial is showing, she'd have been painted as a villain in all history books. Instead, Ruqaiyya, Salima and Jodha are said to have been the leading ladies of Akbar's harem who often worked together to bring about important political changes in the empire. I wish the serial focused more on the political struggles than the nonexistent household drama.

I think the serial was actually better when Maham Anga was the villain, since there was actually truth in it. 🥱 It's intolerable seeing Ruqaiyya as a cold-hearted woman and Salim as bitter and rude towards his parents. I would hate for Ekta Kapoor's Ruqaiyya to have custody of Khurram. Imagine what she'd do to him. 🤢

hello, thank you for your insights. Yes indeed Salim loved MUZ a lot and Ruks was close to Khurram and not necessarily Salim
@ Bold...may ask respectfully where you get this information of her being Akbar's favorite? There is very little written about this lady except that she was powerful in the harem and was a princess of high birth. There is a lot written about MUZ being his favorite and many believe it was Salima. NO historian has talked of Rukayya as Akbar's favorite.
Also What prevented Akbar from giving her one of his own kids to raise? He gave a daughter to Hamida to raise and 2 kids to Salima ( Murad and Khannum) why not rukayya?

Akbarnama talks very little about MUZ and Salima and more about Ruqaiyya. Akbar is clearly quoted to have said that if he had his way, he would never have remarried after Ruqaiyya and that he believes in his heart that a monogamous marriage is superior to polygamous. Don't get me wrong, I love Rajat and Paridhi as Jodha Akbar, but we can't let our hatred for Ekta's Ruqaiyya blind us to the fact that in history, she was Akbar's favorite queen and not as evil as she's shown. Akbar probably loved MUZ too, but not much is written about Jodha-Akbar's love story in history.

I think Akbar gave Khurram to Ruqaiyya, because she wanted to raise an heir, not just any child. Salim already belonged to Jodha, so she was especially adamant about getting Khurram. Also, there are documents that describe the enmity between Ruqaiyya and Jagat Gosain (mother of Khurram) soon after the latter married Salim. Jagat Gosain was Salim's 2nd Hindu wife and the princess of Jodhpur. She is the actual Jodha Bai of history, and she was Salim's favorite until he married Nur Jahan. Ruqaiyya felt threatened by Jagat Gosain's position and made no efforts to hide her dislike, so I think her taking Khurram was a way to show Jagat Gosain her "place" in the harem.

Here is what wikipedia has on why Ruqaiyya got custody of Khurram after his birth.

Just prior to Khurram's birth, a soothsayer had reportedly predicted to Ruqaiya Sultan Begum that the still unborn child was destined for imperial greatness. So, when Khurram was born in 1592 and was only six days old, Akbar ordered that the prince be taken away from his mother and handed him over to Ruqaiya so that he could grow up under her care and Akbar could fulfill his aging wife's wish, to raise a Mughal emperor.[7] Khurram remained with her,[3] until he had turned 13. The young prince was then, finally, allowed to return to his father's household, and thus, be closer to his biological mother.[7] Ruqaiya oversaw Khurram's education as well for she, unlike her husband, was well educated.[14] Ruqaiya and Khurram, therefore, shared a close relationship much like the relationship that Akbar had shared with Khurram (the prince had been a favourite of his grandfather). Khurram's father and Ruqaiya's step-son, Jahangir, noted that Ruqaiya had loved Khurram "a thousand times more than if he had been her own son".[3]
