Worry? My dear Gargi, I would be delighted, except that he is far too old for you,😉 and even when he was much younger and quite handsome, rather like a young Henry VIII, he was always a confirmed bachelor; he never got married! Yes, I am sure it is siblingy, and in fact I gave him my old, Windows 98 laptop, but apparently his Stellarium programmes don't run well on that and so he is back to my new laptop, alas!!

What do you want to know about him? About his astronomical interests? His name in Ramaswamy, and he was a software person all his working life, specialising in central bank software for Honeywell and then Stratus. He retired somewhat early, at 53, and has since become an extremely enthusiastic amateur astronomer. He is a leading light of his state astronomical society in New Hampshire, where he lives, and he goes around the world with assorted enthusiasts like him spotting very obscure stars in very difficult atmospheric conditions. In 2009, he dragged me to Bhopal to watch a total solar eclipse, and I got up to a vantage point with him at 4:30 am, only it was all washed out by a rain storm. He was most philosophical about it all - that is apparently a mandatory quality for an astronomer! - while I felt like throwing something at something, but what?

Anyhow, to revert to our serial, I am going to try and do a Grinch attack on this last week's Jodha Akbar, which made me feel like I was back in my early teens watching Asha Parekh or Sadhana hate the hero, then feel jealous of the vamp cosying up to him, and then discover that she loves him after all. It was eerie, going back nearly 50 years on a time machine. Let me see whether it comes out reasonably well, and if it does, I will put it up tomorrow.

Take care. Incidentally, did you see that rather nice picture of mine that Komal (now mysteriously transformed into TheIronLady) dug up suddenly? It is at http://www.hindu.com/mp/2004/03/10/stories/2004031000460100.htm. I enjoyed reading that report again after so long.

Astronomer !!! 😃 Auntie I'm interested in him ! 😃 ( nothing to worry though ) I want to know more if you be kind enough. 😳
By the way , it's some thing very sibling-ly to do, my sister does that all the time ! 😆😉

My dear Adiana,

A characteristically dense and meticulously argued piece. I enjoyed it and will comment in it tonight. I have just managed to grab my laptop for a while from my visiting astronomer brother, and he is already hovering at my shoulder wanting it back!😉

Don't add the wily and smooth faced Mirza Hakim to the Hamida Banu-led coterie of Jodha-philes,please. He would be shocked and deeply disturbed at being rated so low in terms of intelligence and astuteness.😉

He is in fact going to be a new, and very promising, negative addition to the dramatis personae. A few facts obviously need to be set down here; I had not wanted to overload my earlier post with all this stuff. But here goes.

Don't get carried away by his baby faced looks. Mirza Hakim, who ruled Kabul, notionally under Akbar but largely, and as much as he could get away with, for himself, was Akbar's adversary all his adult life, which ended in 1585, when he died at 32, undoubtedly to Akbar's relief.

I had noted earlier that Mirza Hakim's imperial ambitions would not be like Jalal's oaths of revenge against Jodha, they would surely be tenacious.

In fact, historically, it was Mirza Hakim who was used by those opposing Akbar to gain legitimacy. Utilizing the Muslim orthodoxy's resentment over Akbar's liberal views, this clique organized their last resistance in 1580. The rebels proclaimed Mirza Hakim, then still the ruler of Kabul, their leader, and he moved into the Punjab as their king. Akbar crushed the opposition ruthlessly, but he must then have been characteristically lenient with his half brother, and pardoned him.

Didn't Akbar have any one relative who truly liked him and was loyal to him except his wives?😭 And he was so understanding and considerate to all of them.😒

So, my dear loveanime, Jalal's secret smile when Mirza Hakim touches Jodha's feet was not because he was so touched at his half-brother showing such respect to the object of his affections. He must have been thinking to himself: Nautanki saala! Kya dikhawa kar raha hai! Aur woh buddhu Jodha Begum sab ko sach maan legi! 🤣
Yes, Jodha begum tho hamesha dhikawe ki shikaar hai. She likes to talk and is impressed by impressive words and gallant actions. She has always looked at things only from the surface. She had never looked or cared to look at anything beyond what outwardly meets her eyes.
If your third eye vision does come true this time aunty, I hope (what else can we do!!!😕) that this chubby cute devar serves as an eye-opener to the high-perched begum. Mirza Hakim's behaviour has touched Jodha and made her immediately think that he is infinitely superior to her husband who, on the exterior is rude and ill-mannered (so she thinks).
Hope she learns of the evil behind the deceptive good manners of HM and learns that not everything and everyone is what they appear to be. To know and to understand a person a better insight is needed. Hope she realises that Jalal, though not cloyingly sweet outwardly, is the best human she could have ever hoped for as a husband.

That crack of mine about the Sri Ranganatha comparison being sacrilegious was a joke, Sandhya! Don't get so het up about non-issues, there is a good girl!

Not at all aunty. Of course you were joking. I'm aware of your healthy humour. But just for those who may feel uneasy about the comment. I normally don't brush on religion. But seeing Jalal in the same pose almost every other scene tempted me to. (Even if he was injured, they could have shown him atleast sitting on a divaan!) That is also the same standard pose that the men of our (joint) family often take up in leisure and we keep teasing them so.

Aunty,

All I want is for them to talk. The core reason of all the problems and misunderstandings is that they don't talk😭.I want a scene where they both are talking, whatever, just let them have a discussion regarding that confession-rejection night.

Are you going to write anything at all regarding last week's episodes?

I don't think so, Sandhya. The only others loyal to him were his courtiers, especially the Rajput nobles like Mansingh and Todar Mal. As soon as Mirza Hakim took himself off in 1585, Salim, who was 16 then, started making an infernal nuisance of himself.

Salim never brought matters with his father the Emperor to a breaking point, nor did Akbar, having no other choice for his heir after Murad and Daniyal, his other 2 sons, had died in their late teens, reportedly of alcoholism. But Salim was in a state of low level rebellion against his father for a large part of his adult life, while Akbar was still ruling, ie till Akbar's death in 1605, when Salim was 36, and Akbar 63.

Well, Komal, that is a tall order. For all that Jodha claims to want to talk to Jalal, her idea of a conversation is to make snide remarks at him for his partiality for the KT, which leave him chortling in glee, but get them no forrader, as the cowboys would say.

I wrote earlier on this thread:

"Lastly, Jodha is constantly dodging what she did to Jalal that night, and the fact that all her present miseries are directly linked to his fury and the sense of humiliation he feels because of that. When she mournfully informs Salima, kabhi itna sammaan karte hain ki saha nahin jaata (liar! you lap it up and then, like Oliver Twist, ask for more. You also take it all so much for granted that you do not see that you are bypassing Salima when you stand up and lay claim to the seat to his left. do you?), kabhi itna apamaan karte hain ki raha nahin jaata, there seems to be no comprehension at all of where the roots of Jalal's anger lie.

Instead, she blames Benazir, as if she was the cause of Jalal's coldness towards her, and not merely the symptom. I have always felt that Jodha is constitutionally averse to introspection and self-criticism, with rare exceptions, as in the Green Jodha-Yellow Jodha scene, and the one at the end of the false pregnancy track. "

That is just as relevant now as it was on Monday last. So I do not see any such heart baring in the offing. Jodha is just not savvy enough, or honest enough with herself, for such things. And Jalal seems to be suffering from short term amnesia, and has apparently forgotten about The Shove. He remembers only the palna "insult" now!

I will try and post something tomorrow, but only if I like what I come up with. But be forewarned; it is likely to resemble a Grinch attack on the so-called romantic scenes this last week. Let me see. If I do put out something, I will PM you.

Aunty,

I myself wasn't really delighted with all the romantic scenes in the episode of thursday and friday. There was inconsistency, atleast for me. I would have loved the nok-jhok, if there would've been any scene of them talking about that night. I didn't post my actual thoughts regarding the last two episodes, out of fear that I'd ruin others mood as well. Except that of one time, when I did on Mansi's thread, complaning about the very same thing of them having basic communication gap between them.

About that moniker, 'TheIronLady'😆, well I am a huge fan of Meryl Streep and i loved her as Margaret Thatcher and also the name indicates towards a strong person. So, here you go.😆

P.S. @bold, spot on.

P.P.S. I'm looking forward to your post (as I always do), Aunty.😳

Auntie , I think you really don't think very highly of us new generation ke junkies , if you really think age can be a preventing factor of any kind whatsoever, when it comes to such wonderfully accomplished men like your very gifted brother. 😉 Even while watching Half Nelson ( which is one of my all time favorite movie btw ) only yesterday with a friend, I was arguing that age difference between the two leads matters the least for some thing to brew between them , as long as the souls find that kind of protection , warmth n shelter in each other. But still I'dsay nothing to worry , simply because he's out of my reach with a ocean in between ! 😆
I wish I could've had a chance to meet him in his peak years, I'm sure I'd have fallen for him. Even the description got me piqued. N I'm not of a despo kind nope !
He seemed to be still very actively living his life enjoying his work n giving the world the benefit of his work, no matter if at the cost of snatching away of various types of gadgets from his equally lovely sister. 😉
And as for the solar eclipse , I don't think that there's a reason to heave a sigh of relief as yet , because celestial land marks of various kinds will keep coming n be prepared for more such early morning adventures ! 😃
Never married ! Loss of the ladies. But going by your picture in the article which Komal di found for us , some guy was really lucky... to have you. Must have been one hell of an intelligent courtship period. You look amazing , my immediate impression was you look like Indira Gandhi ji , the same sharp features, intelligent eyes softened by a warm smile that renders twinkling to the eys.. Even the article was a very interesting read. Would love to talk about it too , if you permit. 😃
By the way , I was always interested in astronomy , n even wanted to pursue it , but couldn't convince my family , almost all of whom belongs to medical line n my dad , a surgeon himself , having the veto power in our house , immediately ruled out my going to any other field , one of the only times I regretted not having a brother , for obvious reasons..
Sorry for blabbering . Thank you ever so much for answering. Take care ma'am. 🤗

Shyamala dear, was there anything romantic in the past weeks epi?????
I wonder if my definition of romance needs to be updated perhaps!!!!

What I saw was a Jodha who refused to introspect and a Jalal who wanted her to start looking at other povs. And all this mired in absolute craziness!!!

As for Jalal having 'Gajinitis', well who knws what the CVs and Ekta Maiyya are trying to portray. Perhaps the coming week may provide some clarity here!!!

As for Jodha Akbar , the less said the better. Two back to back lousy n highly OTT tracks. The whole plot line seems to be all over the place.
CVs should first decide what the hell they want to show .. If they want to show Jalal as a grey shaded young man , then fine , pull out all stops , show passion , anger , violence , torture , mind err.. ok can't use the word here , let's say mind games n intense lust , why Indian TV is still so afraid n hesitant in showing primal basal human instincts IDK, I feel so impatient n frustrated at the lack of it. I hope it says nothing bad about me. 😳 Then that Jalal must never behave with Jodha in a sibling manner , in a platonic term , always very aggressive n physical n intensely possessive etc etc., n all that feelings should be for Jodha only , n no other wife , to make the love story epic , with others he'd be a normal, even kind n calm guy. His dark side preserved for Jodha. N no words like , " I want to crash you under my feet. " urrrggghhh it made me feel like let's-go-kill-him. If he's the crushing type , crush her in his strong arms , like a pure predator. Bring out her womanly instincts by sheer force of his own manhood. No feet please !! Completely kills my mood.
That's the Jalal I expected to see in the show, from the promos. But I got zilch. * heart broken *
But if they don't wanna show Akbar like that then please copy paste the characteristics of HR"s Akbar pretty please , he was superrr se vi uparrr. Soft , kind , gentle , sweet , frank , never tedha , n yet strong n openly direct in his jealousy n very human vulnerable n therefore relatable in every way. Would've loved him too if that was what shown in the show.
This Jalal is neither here , nor there , it seems like CVs couldn't make up their mind in what to show in him. They're making him look weak. Neither good like HR's one , nor dark n sinister n lusty like a hungry tiger ( I meant that as a huge compliment , dark sinister guys are like tuxedo suits , they never go out of flavor ), just weak, very weak. No wonder Jodha isn't falling head over heels for him till now, though she's going there slowly slowly.
I'd say my two bits about Jodha in another post.
Btw , ma'am , I'm currently watching 'Ye Hai Mohabaatein", in Star Plus, you could give it a try online, the initial episodes looked promising. Sorry for going off topic. Change of scene always good for reviving health. That's why ! 😳 I heard it's loosely based on Manju Das's novel Custody.
N claims to deal with topics like custody battle, divorce trauma, neighbor relations, infertility n inter caste marriage.
