Loved your analysis on Jalal Kshithi. Be it Jalal or Jodha, you have been very fair while analysing them (without going gaga over them). 😃
I also agree with you on Jodha's stand on being a bit rude and non-compromising on her stand. First and foremost, she is a rajvanshi khoon, who is bound to have pride and ego within her. Her deep hatred for him is another reason why she took a lot of time to start understanding and trusting him. With their relationship developing now, I can only see them getting stronger as individuals and also as life partners and soulmates

Jalal and Christian Grey. Do they have a tie in that century so he can tie Jodha with that?☺️😆

Very true kshithi,
Actions do hurt more than words. But even Jalal had hurt Jodha only in words. He did not DO anything bad actually, except for that one banging breaking session. Any man would have done worse. As for marrying her, Bharmal was equally responsible for the alliance. Jalal could have just captured her as was the norm in those days and made her, harem ki shaan, instead of offering marriage. Her plight would have been more pathetic then . He blew his top when he suspected her of killing his child but she also blew her top when she suspected him of breaking his vachan. As for not leaving him to die in the forest, may I remind you that Jalal had placed himself between the tiger and Jodha and saved her life after she risked his. If she had made no attempt to save him then, she would fallen even beneath Adham Khan, Shariffuddin and the like. It was her duty in that situation not her magnanimity as she was the cause behind the accident.

Hi Kshithi,
A beautiful piece of work, thoroughly enjoyed reading it. You are so right that unlike Jo, Ja is very hard to put on paper. His qualities of learning from experience, then keeping the knowledge to himself and throwing the trump card at the right time just leave me in awe. You are so right that inspite of BK/MA influence, the Hamida genes of goodness were not eradicated. Unlike his caretakers he cares deeply about other people, the way he reacts to a young girl getting married was so touching. If we really had leaders care so much about people, would there be any problems in the world? No wonder Akbar was the greatest king!He is indeed just Jalal when he is around Jo, bcos that's the role that she likes the most in him. She does not respect the shenshah in him yet..She likes the husband in him bcos he trusted her..No wonder he wants Jo's approval of being the best king.Another thing that you pointed out that will he ever be able to love, does he know what it means as he never received it? He does love Ruqu as a friend, he loves MA as badi ammi but did he get the love he deserved in return..I so hope JaJo fall in love with each other before MA is exposed. Ja is going to be completely broken when MA's true colors are out, hope Jo is there to support him..I loved your name PATAKA for Jo, what is it for Ja? waiting...😉

Jalal is a person who was filled with lies. He was told repeatedly that he is a great king. There is no better king than him. Sometimes I wonder if the dream to rule over the entire Hindustan was actually his or of the others who forced it on him with clever manipulation. His adolescent was filled with wars and violence. BK and MA did take care of him in those days. They filled his head with what is it to become an emperor, i.e. conquer all of Hindustan with war. He is all powerful after all. So he became a war machine. He thinks that being a great warrior and winning/adding states under his belt is his duty as king. But did they concentrate on his growth only a king (not a good one at that)? What about his personal growth as a boy, as a man, as a human being? No, he raised himself there.
Yes, sometimes I wonder what he really wants instead of just accepting all that is thrust upon him by others.
Many of us wonder why he is so attached to MA. Why not? She was his safety net isn't it? She was his home in his formative years. He himself said that he felt lonely, did not belong anywhere when he was growing up. She was there with him then. May be her affection was genuine at that time. May be her growing influence on him and her good for nothing son not having a prosperous future made her twisted.
Mahamanga must have loved him and probably still cares for him albeit in a twisted way. I think after realizing the power he had and how she could use that with her position in his heart (yes, he does have a heart!), she became manipulative in order to increase her status and that of her child.
Then he meets Jodha.
When he meets Jodha, he has a physical attraction towards her. Next he comes to know of her hatred towards him. His ego, his pride is hurt. How dare she, a common Rajput princess, hate him, the all mighty emperor? Why does he take her hate so personally when he know whole of Rajput clan hates him? Is it because of the attraction he feels towards her?
Very well said. I wholeheartedly agree that he sees something different in her and thus values her opinion so it hurts when he realizes she hates him.
Is she broken yet? Is she ready to accept his greatness? Everyone respects him, treats him like a king is supposed to be treated, other begums just trip over themselves to please him as he deserves. But this Rajput princess defies him at every turn. Treats him with contempt and whatever comes to her mind she just blasts him with it. She does not want anything from him. She does not want wealth, nor do his attention and nothing expect her family's safety and happiness. How refreshing is that? Is family that important? Is it how family should be, so concerned, so loving and sacrificing your own happiness for them? Is there anyone in his circle who will do that for him? Can such a person really exist?
Great questions!
This was an eye opener for Jalal. He realizes that he can make mistakes too. He could see how his anger can cause destruction of lives, how much power he has. He repents what he did to Jodha. He realizes that both are same, two sides of the same coin. He married her and she bloody well deserves his respect. So, he sets out to correct his mistakes, make amends. He wants to bring her back to the person once she was and wants to see her smile. More importantly, he no longer is the angry person he once was.
The suicide attempt was a real turning point in Jalaal's relationship with Jodha. He no longer wants to get back at her for her hatred instead, he wants to have some semblance of a husband-wife relationship.
Slowly he starts to understand Jodha and during this he starts to understand himself. He starts to thinking on his own. He starts to think what kind of a person and what kind of a king he wants to be. He wants to have the kind of family and loyalty that Jodha have. He looks past her anger and hatred, and see insecurity, vulnerability. He sees a person who is selfless, who will go great lengths to save a maid, or a child of a maid, instead of using the opportunity for herself (during Moti's execution). He sees a person who is ready to risk his wrath to do the right thing.
At the same time, he makes fun of her too, of her rigidity, of her inflexibility. He gets a high teasing her mercilessly. He teases to get a raise out of her. He does not hide his attraction towards her just to make her uncomfortable. He knows she is too rigid and needs to loosen up a bit. He knows she sees the world as black and white. But he has seen the actual world and there are lots of shades in between. He wants to preserve her innocence and he is protective of her. He is obsessed and passionate for her.
👍🏼
There is a marked difference in the way he is or the way talks to other people (including Ruku) compared to Jodha. In front her, he is just Jalal. His inner rouge comes out when he is with her. His boyishness, his laughter, his playfulness is apparent when he is dealing with her.
I want to see this Jalaal back!
He is shattered when his sister back-stabs him. It shook his confidence, confidence in people around him, his family and also confidence in himself. He must have questioned himself if he did go wrong somewhere. He sees that is was Jodha who was there to pick up the broken pieces. Since then, his trust in people like MA, AK has come down a little bit. In all of this, he knows he can trust Jodha. He knows she will not back-stab him. If she hates you, she will tell it in your face. You always know where you stand with her.

This is a fabulous insight into Jalaal's character - I learned a lot reading this. I can understand some of the motivations into what he does now. Thanks for synthesizing it into a post! I hope to see more such analyses from you! 😊
