Yep, Maham is a rabid widow!!

Muslim widows don't have the restrictions that a Hindu widow does. It wasn't the fact that Jodha had painted her orange. It had to do with the fact that Jodha was celebrating Holi & that colour, of a Himdu festival, was on her.

And am sure she considers her life far more important than bother about wearing a brown shawl. 😆

@bold : obviously 😆

There is another reason why it was an issue..I posted this on another thread:

I grew up in the middle east and some Muslims are touchy about such issues..Not all of them. My friends landlord who was an Arab wouldn't let them put diyas on diwali so its understandable.
In Saudi, you cannot even hold a religios meeting inside your home..and show stuff that is associated with other religion publicly.. a hindu temple or a Church in Oman cannot look like one from outside.. Only inside..

The Mughals were modern in their thinking and celebrated hindu festivals because akbar had many hindu wives but it was behind closed doors.. there were conservatives in his court who did not approve of Akbar doing so

There was a reason why Jalal specifically told her that : wo kissi ki takleef ka sabab nahi banna chahiye

and this was a time where religion reigned supreme all over the world. The Queen of England burning people just for being catholics

This world is brutal.

@Alakh: True!

I stayed for a pretty long time in Dubai which is probably the most progressive Emirate due to all the tourist traffic!!

The rules were very strict there too. We could never celebrate Diwali there but since it fell a day or two apart form Eid, we celebrated it along with the others. Just that they were celebrating Eid, we, Diwali. 😛
But we couldn't ever celebrate it, openly.😭 . I used to feel so low on Diwali!
And this is the 21st Century!!!

Can you imagine a Muslim Emperor wielding Absolute Power , allow his Hindu wife to celebrate her own festivals with just an obvious disclaimer that it shouldnt hurt anyone's sentiments?

Akbar was truly a very very commendable man!!! And a GREAT Emperor!! ! 👏👏⭐️

Gulal has some different meaning I think.. Because it does in Hindus.

another reason is she wants jodha to get into trouble.

She doesn't hate him. She cares for him & has a big soft spot for him.

This Jalal know very very well! 😆

But that still doesn't excuse her apalling behaviour towards him. 😡
