Friends, amidst all this speculation that all of us are now indulging in, I wanted to share my own thoughts as to who may be behind this miscarriage.
I think it was Sharifuddin for the following reasons:
1. He is the Subehdar of the Amer area and has access to the herbs from that area.
2. He wants the Agra throne for himself and hates both Jalal and the new waaris that may stand in his way.
3. He was shown as very pissed off with Jodha's brothers and family as he had captured them in war but had to release them thanks to Jalal. Recently also Jalal asked him to return all the money he pinched from Amer. Hence his enmity with the Jodha family is high and he may have an axe to grind with them and decided to kill two birds with one stone i.e. put an end to the waaris as well as implicate Jodha and her family.
4. He was present when Jodha's brothers arrived with the kesar gift, and when Mahamanga had it all taste-tested. He may have followed that thali and added his evil herbs into it as he was in charge of the management of the Jodha family at the jashn. I suspect the thali of kesar was always with or near Jodha's brothers and so Sharif may have had better access to contaminate it than Mahamanga had.
5. In the movie version of Jodha Akbar also Sharifuddin is the enemy No. 1 of Jalal. Maham is a power-monger but she does not pose as big a threat as Shharifuddin.
I also think it may not be Mahamanga because:
1. It would be too obvious a storyline - too childish and amateurish - for the scriptwriters to make Maham the culprit, or to involve this Maham/Adam combination.
2. As mentioned above Maham had slightly less access to the thali of kesar that Sharifuddin. If at all Maham adulterated anything, it would be the milk, not the kesar.
3. For once I thought Maham was genuinely crying yesterday. In her own devious way she seems to love Jalal and has some loyalty to the Sultanate, so there is a bit of doubt in my mind if she will kill the waaris.
4. Maham is needed as a villain in this story for a long time, so if she were finished off at this stage then what is left of her role, if she is exposed of killing the waaris at this stage itself?
How Jodha may unravel the truth: (here I have a small theory):
There must have been a good reason for the creative to deliberately show that scene of Bakshi Bano and Jodha becoming good friends and exchanging jewellery. Already Jodha knows Bakshi is getting some ill-treatment from Sharif. Jodha also knows Sharif is rotten as he has killed Suryabhan "peet ke peeche" in the Amer war and ill-treated her brothers. Maybe this Bakshi Bano may drop a hint about her husband's goings on during or just before the jashn which will put Jodha on the correct scent?
Bakshi Bano may not intend to hide her husband's misdeeds, but she is shown to be simple at heart, so she may inadvertently drop some hints which the clever Jodha may decipher. For instance Bakshi Bano may have seen Sharif doing something with the thali of kesar or maybe he was taking the thali from Jodha's brothers and holding it himself for while as if to help the guests, and thus may have had access? I think the secret may be with Bakshi Bano and she may spill it.
Now here's another possibility: this Bakshi Bano could tell Jodha herself and thus help Jodha unravel the mystery of the miscarriage and save herself from blame. Or else this Bakshi Bano may drop a hint to Jalal himself which then puts a doubt in his mind against Sharif and thus he tries himself to unravel things and realises Jodha is innocent.
Either way, folks, I am waiting for the BIG MOMENT when Jalal will have to apologise and make up with Jodha!
