Hi Shyamala..
What an apt title - "Clearing the air indeed!"
When I look at all the people that are plotting and planning against Jalal - Adham khan, Maham, Shariffudin of late - I am reminded of the fact that Jalal, in effect, has no true friends. Sure, History has it that Ruqaiya was his best friend and that they could share anything, but the serial (Ekta's version of Ruqaiya), isnt the most obliging confidante, nor does she seem overly interested in protecting Jalal. she seems to be running her own set of kitchen politics and proves time and again that nothing is as important to her, not even Jalal, as maintaining her position of supremacy in the harem. Her friendship with Jalal seems to be just a zariya for her to do so. Today they tried to bring out the softer side of Ruqaiya - Her insecurities and her desire to have a child that any woman would want, as well as her loving nature in the form of her behaviour with little Rahim, and it was a treat to watch. It elevated her character from a regular TV vamp which she was portraying in the past couple of episodes. The chemistry that those two sharre (Jalal and Ruq) was also quite evident, so was the reason why Jalal regards her as the begum - e - khaas. And still, when I view them together, i see a void, a distance between the two that cannot be breached. It is a fundamental lack of understanding between the two where Ruqaiya knows her husband and accepts his bad side to the T but fails to see the underlying goodness within. She may think that she is the closest to him, others may harp on the childhood friendship that they share, but I fail to see the strength of the bond that should be there, had they been such good childhood friends.
Shariffudin was an ugly dork today, and these are exactly the kind of hypocritical men that should be taught a well deserved lesson by their wives. They should be made an example of so that none ever dare after. Bakshi Bano's behaviour today had me grinding my teeth in frustration. She should have slapped him back, Shauhar or no shauhar, and threatened to complain to the shehenshah and used that as a leverage to get him to behave. Better still, she should have walked out. I agree with you, these are the kind of women that propogate wife-beating in the first place.
That scene between Bakshi and Jodha was beautiful. You said it all. Jodha although noticing the wound and understanding the implication, elects to remain quite. I hope that she fully intends to get to the bottom of it, and will bring it up at an appropriate time.
Like you mentioned, there is a growing understanding in Jodha of Jalal, a different view point that she now sees as compared to before, that depicts in the way her face reflects growing confusion after all her encounters with him. Its like she is trying to solve the puzzle that is Jalal, and it is like a maze where she the more deeper she gets, the more embroiled she becomes. So is with jalal. Today Jalal saw the caring side of Jodhaa, just like Jodha saw the caring side of the here-to-fore non-dil Jalal. The chemistry aside, the sparks that they feel aside, I think they are getting closer to the real person that resides within. While previously she would be coldly distant and a perfunctory wife, I loved the authoritative wife mode that she was in yesterday. And i absolutely loved that snetence - "Agar tum sab samajhte hon to tumhe har cheese dobara samjhani kyun padti hain??" Bith me and my sister were watching it together and we burst off laughing. It was too funny the way Jodha is now showing authority to Jalal, like real wife would. Do this. Do that. Get this straight. Force your mom to not go. And if she doesnt agree, force her again. Wow Jodha, dominating much?
And Jalal in his quintessential way totally reversed her own game on her. If you are so concerned for my mother why dont you play act with me for her? Jodha was of course speechless! My question to you is, If jalal thinks that Jodha only wants his Sar, isnt it kind of counter productive to give her his sar ki kasam to get her to do something? Unless ofcourse, Jalal no longer believes it to be true, and is beginning to see that he is having a lot of effect on her.
The precap was to drool for.
Loved it and your analysis.
(Can i tell you that I patiently wait for it every morning...)
Love,
Shal.
