Someone posted this in desi tashan and I just wanted to share it .

"Indian Hindus claim that Akbar had 300 wives. Some other claim he had 5000. The fact that a Muslim sucessfull ruled over them for such a long period is quite egonizing for the most of Indian Hindu extremists like the producer of this serial. This is obvviously the reason why he is trying to distort the image of one the greatest emprore of his time.
They need to sit togather in order to rather decide whether he had 300 or 5000 wives. I have been doing reserarch about him. According to reliable sources he neither had 300 nor 5000 wives. Akbar had only foour wives, two Muslim, one Hindu and one Christian. His religion does not allow more than four wives.
Secondly, the name Jodha Bai is fictious in same way as most of her behaviour shown in this serial is fictious. "Johdas" real name was Rajkuwari Hira Kunwari. She was titled Mariam-uz-Zamani Baigum.
Thirdly, Akbar is known benevolent, wise and tolerant person. It is a sign of his tolerance that he married a Hindu Rajkumari and didn't force her to leave her religion.
Besides, the father of Mariam-uz-Zamani Baigum (Johda Bai) offered her to Akbar in marriage AND NOT VICE VERSA."

Ok , now this is getting too confusing. I know "0" indian history so please someone tell me what actually happened. I am getting confused with so many versions.

Relax. You can never be sure with history. Moreover, Akbar did, in fact, have a large number of wives. That much is correct.

I don't mean to offend anyone 😳 but If I am not wrong, Islam does not permit drinking either, right...and possibly the ideals also require the wife to convert to Islam...both of which Akbar didn't follow... I am not aware that Akbar (or his son) were a very very strict muslim...History is written by victors and interpreters...so as someone else said above me, I guess its best to enjoy it for what it is😳 - an entertainment serial of the genre historical romance based on the folklore of the Mughal Jalal and Rajput Jodha...not a historical documentary based on life story of Akbar...
