CAHPTER 4:
Jalal wakes up and immediately remembers Jodha's defiance. He scowls and waves away all of the servants. He has no desire to be around anyone right now and is frustrated. He has never felt the way he was feeling in that moment. He has no idea what to do with this woman. On one hand he wants her to know her place and submit to him and yet on the other, her beauty defies all logic and makes him want to do anything for her to just give him one smile. Her brother Sujamal warned him that Jodha was headstrong and stubborn, but he never imagined it to go this far. She pushed him one too many times yesterday. If she had just showed up to dinner everything would have been fine but she had to push, push and push. He had never met anyone who ever had the strength to defy him, this scenario was unique to him.
Bairam Khan enters Jalal's living area. "Jalal I'm glad to find that you are awake. I just arrived myself this morning from a small skirmish that took place just south of here. Everything is fine now but I'm deeply troubles and what I have heard since my arrival. Please tell me what I've heard is incorrect."
Jalal ' Khan Baba, I'm very glad to see you. You are one of the only people whom I can truly be myself with and right now I could use your guidance. What is troubling you that you have sought me out so early?
Bairam Khan ' he repeats to Jalal everything he heard about Jalal's treatment of Jodha.
Jalal ' "Ji Khan Baba. What you have heard is correct, but I must explain myself. This woman's pride, arrogance and disrespect are too much to bear. She treats me as if I'm the most repulsive human being on this earth. Me, Shenshah-e-Hindustan, and she treats me as if I'm not even good enough to be in her regal presence. I know that to the world I put on a ruthless faade because I have had to show my strength after taking over the Kingdom at such a young age. You of all people know that there was no room for weakness, otherwise there was no way anyone would have accepted my place as this realms Badshah. But I'm wholly unprepared to deal with this female. None of my training or experience has been able to instruct me on how to handle that woman. I almost regret marrying her, but then when I gaze upon her beauty, I remember that I had to possess her. There was no way I was going to let some other man claim her. She is mine. "
" I know that I have treated her roughly, but that was just to show her that I am not a man to be trifled with. I haven't raised my hand to her, I have barely even touched her and any dominance that I have shown is because she defies me at every turn. There is not anything that I have asked of her that is too much and yet she dares to not comply with my orders. You tell me Khan Baba, how I can accept this disobedience especially when it happens in front of everyone. The realm will think me weak if I show them that I can't even control my wife. There have been a few moments when I am so overtaken with lust that I may have treated her more roughly than I wanted to, but she pushes back at everything I say'there is only so much a man can be held responsible for if he pushed beyond his limits. "
NARRATOR: SO''now we see what has been pushing Jalal these past few days. He expected Jodha to give him the respect that was due to him and yet she has contradicted everything that he thought he knew about woman. Jalal desires her, is entranced by her beauty, but knows that he must show to his empire that a mere woman can not control him. Jalal took over the realm at the age of 14 and has always been taught to never show any weakness to anyone. He must always have an iron fist and never be afraid to use it. Those teachings worked well for him throughout the years passed and yet now this mere woman, Jodha, is testing him as he's never been tested before.
Khan Baba ' Jalal, you must find this path of yours yourself. There is an easy way to handle this situation and a hard way'which path you take must be your choice but remember, something worked hard for reveals true dedication, passion and strength. An easy route may yield results, yet satisfaction is never truly achieved. Throughout your years as Shenshah you have always had any woman you desire and they have been most willing. Jodha is now your wife. Her place in your life is permanent; how you want to live out these years with her will depend on the both of you. A wife should be given respect, honor and prominence in your life. You want her to be your mate'to stand by you through the rough times and the good. Myself and Maham Anga are dear to you, yet a wife's place cannot be compared to anyone else. From what I have heard about Jodha, she will fit this role of Malika-e-Hindustan well and will make you proud. You must come to know one another'that is the only way you will be able to properly judge her, trust her and determine what kind of role you want her to play in your life. You have only been married for a few days. Plenty of time to rectify the wrongs and ensure that your lives are entwined in a positive way. I trust you will choose the right path my son.
Jalal stared at Khan Baba, stunned. He had never heard any softness from this man, ever. Since the age of 14 he was told to never show weakness, never give anyone a chance to question his authority and to rule with an iron fist. He just assumed that a wife would also be lead the same way. Now he was starting to feel guilty about his order from the night before and yet Jalal is not sure how to rectify the situation. On one hand if he takes food to her he will be admitting that he was wrong and that he was unwilling to do and yet how could he save the situation without showing any weakness. He sat down to think about the situation.
Jalal get taken out of his pondering by singing. He walks out to the balcony and sees Jodha on her knees singing a religious hymn and an idea comes to him. He calls out for a soldier and instructs him on what he needs. Once it arrived he goes to Jodha's apartments.
- I know this is a short update'.Can anyone tell me what god Jodha would pray to? I'm stuck on that fact so can't write any further until I know that detail.
