I think the real life Jodha would have been around 12 or 13 years of age, when she got married to Akbar!

Because in that time, it was unthinkable for a Rajput girl, that too of a Royal background, to stay unmarried till she was in her late teens!

Girls were usually married off either before they attained puberty or immediatley afterwards...it was impossible for a Rajput Princess to stay unmarried for so long! In fact, in Rajasthan, girls as young as 7 or 8 were married and would stay with her parents till she reached her early teens and then sent off to her in-laws place!

But obviously, they cannot show such a thing on television now...hence, makes sense to show Jodha as a 17 or 18 year old!

Even in the show, Jhansi Ki Rani, when they had to show consummation of marriage between Lakshmibai and her husband Gangadhar Rao, they showed her as a grown-up woman. Though, it is widely known, that Lakshmibai was just 14 years old when she had her first child.

It would create too much of a scandal if they start showing too much authenticity on television!😆

Yup! Even Jahangir was 17 years old when he got married to his first wife, Jodh Bai/Manmati/Taj Bibi Bilqis Makani. She was 13 years old.

both jodha & akbar were 20 yrs. of age when they got married. akbar was born in 14 Oct 1942 & jodha was born on 1st Oct 1942. they got married in 1562. so if jodha is 17 yrs, jalal is also 17yrs. i dont know whts EK is going to show, but truth is jodha & akbar were of same age.

The only way that Akbar's Jodha (so much confusion regarding her real identity...I will call her Akbar's Jodha for clarity sakes😆) could have been 17 when she married him, was that her parents could not find a suitable match for her and hence she remained unmarried till that late! (17 was extremely late by Rajput standards in those days...she must have practically been called an old maid by then!) It was common amongst the Royals to let their daughters remain unmarried, if they did not get a match according to the family's status. Sons could be married to girls from any social standing, because men had multiple marriages, but since women married just once, it was very important in royal families, that they found the perfect match etc. etc!

Yes, there are many rumours about Jodha and Akbar being of the same age, but nothing is authenticated. In fact, very less is known about Jodha's hindu wife! She is not mentioned very much in Akbar-nama or for that matter in any Mughal document of that era!

my grand father read all books in their original text i.e. Persian (farsi) like tuzke babri (written by babar him self)

humayon nama (written by his sister)

Akbar nama and aina e akbari (written by Akbar's two layal friends, wazir and nauratan,, abul fazl and abul faizi)

tuzk e jahangiri (written by Jahangir himself)

so I have alway lots of discussion with him,... even Jahangir wrote more about Ruqayya sultan than his own mother... both Akbar nama and tuzk e jahangiri always mentioned only name Marriam uzamani for Jahangir mother

General History (meaning the facts we find on the net) says that Jodha and Akbar were 19 years of age when they got married.. Infact Jodha was couple of weeks older than Akbar...

They were both born in October 1542...and got married around February 1562...

PS: This is what I have read... there could be other versions too..
