I agree...the epi was a pleasant surprise in that sense that they didn't gloss over any aspects of the harem...it's a harsh truth of those times...do post your full review when you can...would love to read your thoughts :-)

Smiley's doing a good job of Ruqaiya although I feel she can be a little more expressive face-wise...otherwise the body language is fine...the character has a lot of potential given her unique place in the harem and Jalal's life.

I'm surprised Mahamanga doesn't have a complex about Ruqaiya's importance in Jalal's life...she's otherwise so over possessive of Jalal and trying to push everyone else away from him so that he only worships her.

Also I wonder if it's on purpose that the Mughal women are shown a little...more forward? I mean Ruqaiya was sitting there watching a belly dance ...I found that weird...hookah and all toh chalo must have been common but it's weird to see a woman watching belly dancing all smirky...are they trying to show that Ruqaiya is practically a man? lol...

Jalal doesn't seem enchanted with her beauty or charms...he seems drawn to her BRAINS more than anything else...which is what the eunuch said too...that Ruqaiya has AKKAL unlike the other women of the harem.

If Ruqaiya indeed is the one who puts the idea in Jalal's head to marry Jodha, it would be just hilarious irony in the larger scheme of things...lol...Ruqaiya will have managed to usurp her own numero uno status in Jalal's life...haha


Forgot to talk about the Mahamanga-Hamida Bano scene...I once again wish Hamida wasn't shown so whiny and pitiful...yes I felt bad for her in that scene but the whiny tone in which she went, "Hum maa hain toh yeh bhi toh daaimaa" hain while both MA and Jalal IGNORED her was just pitiful.

Regarding Harem..It is indeed very realistically shown..I have read many historical accounts about the women in harem ,their lifestyles as well as their POWER PLAY POLITICS AND PYAAR... I m cutting it short now but kal my rambling are surely gonna come ...Its just getting so much sizzled up..Their eye play was so good..
Word about Jalaal's mommy dearest...Honestly I feel pity but her whining voice gets on my nerves .Wish they had chosen a better actress.As for Smiley I think she needs to work on expressions a lil bit but she surely stands out more powerful to the delicate Jodha...m loving her😆😆😆

Re: Ruqaiya...yes I think any actress would love to play this role...it's a very powerful one...despite not being the "primary" lead. ...yeah that eye contact scene was very good...shows the connection and understanding b/w them.

Smiley has the regality of a Queen down quite well...as her dialogues expressed too...she is the first Queen of Jalal...child bride...lol...so why shouldn't she have the attitude to go with it?

LOL Jodha isn't DELICATE yaar...the woman put a sword to Jalal's neck...you can't call that delicate :P...yes she isn't as SHAATIR as Ruqaiya but that doesn't make her delicate either...both women are STRONG in their own ways...Ruqaiya is more the mind games playing type while Jodha is more the HONORABLE kinds.

Only thing is...I dunno how the Ruqaiya shown today gels with the Ruqaiya shown in that BTS segment a few days back who was giving Jalal the news that she's pregnant and all...is that a more secretive, vulnerable side to her in her imagination?

^^ Lol Anu waise DELICATE nahi..I meant physically though she talks of the Rajputi aan baan shaan but her body language is GRACEFUL more than Ruqaiya seems as if she is born with that royal "AITHAN" the sense of pride and she FLAUNTS ITI donno But I am liking her a lot.If only Ekta dosen't turn her up in to a TYPICAL VAMP.the character has wonderful layers 👏👏👏
AGREE both the women are Different yet Portray STRENGTH. I think Ruaqaiya's mind games stems from the fact that she belongs to a different culture altogether.Surviving in a harem full of women yet claiming sovereign authority is a HERCULEAN task...
Also one word about their fascination with scents and attars..Ekdum Mughaliya touch hai..becoz there was a huge fascination in these Mughals relating Attars to aphrodisiac properties. It was associated with the art of love making..So I am amazed that they actually paid so much attention to these details.Kya yeh wohi JA hai which gave us such a ghastly bhootiya Opening with that ghastly Jai kali Mandir scene and the Funny Jauhar of Moti Bai...
Seriously I am pleasantly surprised.This episode has to be the best till now..Also the Mughal clan and women seem so much more royal than the whimpering Mainawati and Bharmal.😆😆😆

I think people are just saying harem stuff is disgusting forgetting jodha will be put in the same place ! Then no one shall find a realistically done scene disgusting ! 🤔
That way even every One Should be ashamed of uday Singh in another show too since he has two dozen wife in reality and so did most Rajput kings ! 😳

Also, it's the Mughal family which shall be permanent in the story ! 😆 Jodha's side will be packed off after the wedding baring sujamal and sukanya-given she is made negative after marrying sunshine !
So it's important they set the base for Mughals now to make the audience eager for Jodha's future clashes ! 😛
Also , statistically women may rule TV ... But it's the saas more than the lead female who attract the audience ! And here it will be Maham Anga with jodha! 😃

He can have so many of his harem women for his beauty but someone who can read his brain and guide him is ruqaiya ! 😛
That is also which attracts him to jodha ! A rare princess who cares less beautifying herself but thinking abt her kingdom's welfare ! 😆

I'm also very intrigued abt the equation between MA and ruqaiya ! None of them are envious the over the other's control on Jalal ? Or are they a team against khan baba ? 😕 they need to show them two ! It's obvious they will unite to oust jodha !

This ruqaiya is no match to the one shown in SBS trying to cajole a grim Jalal with her soft nature ! 😳

@bold: Totally agree...I think the Rajput family will be packed off for a bit post the wedding anyway so Ekta didn't bother much with that casting...lol...most of the buzz before the premiere also was for the supporting characters of Mahamanga and Chetan's character...the whole story will run in the Mughal setting only soon enough.

As Piu pointed out...she lacks the GRACE that Jodha has...she's REGAL as a queen...but not GRACEFUL.

And yeah I guess that's why Jalal is drawn to Jodha too...just like Ruqaiya is unlike any other woman in the harem...Jodha is unlike any woman Jalal has known, PERIOD😆

Ruqaiya is an interesting character to watch for sure though...the power politics in the Mughal palace are surely something...lol


@Piu: LOL yes I guess Ruqaiya had to be shrewd to survive in the harem and the generally toxic atmosphere of Mughal politics...so she is definitely an interesting character to watch and I'm curious to see how she's developed.

Re: SBS segment...I don't have the link for it now but it aired last week I think...and it showed Ruqaiya kinda fawning all over Jalal while he was brooding/lost in thought and then they showed a scene of Ruqaiya giving Jalal the good news of her pregnancy and him being all happy and announcing a feast to celebrate.

Some ppl here pointed out though that it's likely a dream of Ruqaiya's...and after seeing today's epi I'm more likely to believe that😆

I feel the only ones who are complaining are the ones who haven't followed historicals 🤔

The Mughals are BADASS. PERIOD.
