Rajat works hard at playing Akbar
Rajat Tokas is an actor who has always been associated with historical shows be it Prithviraj Chauhan or DharamVeer. Now he is back with Ekta Kapoor's Jodha Akbar. This time, Rajat has to live up to the character that Hrithik Roshan recently played on the big screen. But the actor isn't bothered about comparisons, "I am lucky to always have played such powerful characters. What people saw in the movie was just a part of Akbar's life, shown in three hours. Our show, which is a daily, will be much more detailed. I am playing a 20-year-old Akbar, so you will get to see and know much more about the character. We will show the immense power and madness he had, being a king at such a young age," says Rajat.
The actor says that having trained in martial arts for his previous roles helped him with this one too. "I just had to polish up on the martial arts that I had already learnt. Besides that, I have focused on perfecting my look and attitude. I want every emotion to be perfect and suit the situation," he says.
The actor has had to don a lot of heavy costumes and jewelry for Akbar's look and shoot long hours in them but Rajat says he has no complaints. The actor says, "I have shot long hours in Akbar's costume in the sweltering sun and rain too, but I never complained. If I had such problems, I would not be an actor. This is part of an actor's life."
While Rajat is serious as Akbar onscreen, when asked if he prefers to have some fun during the breaks, the actor tells us that he prefers keeping to himself when not shooting. "I like being in character even when I'm not shooting so I am serious on the sets. If you don't live the character, it looks mechanical onscreen. When not shooting, I either hit the gym or catch up with family or friends over the phone."
The actor had earlier tried to experiment with a love story, Tere Liye, and asked if he enjoyed playing a modern character for a change, he says, "As an actor I am open to all kinds of roles, be it modern or historical characters."
