One of the most accurate articles I've come across. Hands Down to the writer, who has so beautifully expressed my views about the show!!
"Jhalak Dikhla Jaa"- a dance " reality " show has become more of a Comedy Circus where I laugh not at the jokes intended to be hilarious but at the writers who come up with such a juvenile sense of humour and expect people to actually take it in good stead. Like seriously?
Not only is it lame but is also repetitive. How many times can you expect us to laugh at Manish Paul holding onto Madhuri's pallu? Yes, Mr. Paul you crack good jokes once in a while and your comic timing is indeed bang on but really you have to do that every week, every episode, hell yeah every few minutes?
This time we are spared that on-loop visual only by the absence of Madhuri's Dixit Nene!
About Karan Johar, the less said the better. He just invests his money on films, which anyhow do great business for him, while himself not getting involved. When he is not judging JDJ, he is sitting on the judge's chair at IGT and when that is also not on-air, then we get "Koffee With Karan". ( In all fairness, I think KWK is a much better venture then these so called reality shows. It's candid and does not just give the semblance of reality). Whatever happened to direction and film making!!!
Shahid Kapoor coming on board to judge JDJ was the most shocking news for me!! My first reaction was - Is he not getting any films even after that marvellous performance in 'Haider'? But I guess he was paid an amount he couldn't refuse or perhaps he is just too passionate about dance. Whatsoever, the news of him quitting the show restores the balance of the universe!
Though, why would you even join the show if you know you're going to quit mid way!!
And nobody even expects this show to be fair. Ever since the first season, the most talented and consistent performer has never raised the winning trophy! If the show is all about the journey of a 'celebrity' from a non- dancer to a dancer, then why do you call professional dancers, or professionally trained dancers for that matter, in the first place? And if its all about popularity then call in the popular faces, let them stand on the stage and just ask people to vote so that the most popular can win the popularity contest! Why should actually talented people waste their time?
All in all, it's a sorry state of affairs for Indian television where it is difficult to decide if fictional shows suck more or the so called reality shows!!
P.S. Sorry readers, I didn't intend for this post to be this long but I guess I just vented out. And if you're thinking why do I watch the show when I hate it so much, let me tell you I have been giving this show a miss for the past 2-3 seasons. I just happened to watch the first episode of season 8 and found that it has gone from bad to worse!
