in this season also i will keep Salman far ahead than Punit...because Drashti is not professional dancer and managing two shows at a time...still they r giving better and better performances...lauren is professional and they have ample of time...Salshti deserves to win

The concepts are usually going to be similar; what Salman had done wasn't completely out of the box but it was new for JDJ. Speaking of the sexy bollywood number, its been repeated many times - though I though Sana -Tushar's act gave me that feel more than Lauren-Punit's. Anyhow, this piece was a contemporary and what I think you are referring to was the Afro Jazz that Isha and Cornell did. The two are completely different dance styles and they both conveyed different messages. If you feel that they were similar maybe due to the costumes then... I got nothing to say.

Coming to the over use of contemporary, Salman always integrates contemporary whenever he can...many would agree as that is the main reason why some people find his choreography so repetitive.

However, this is not going to be taking away from the fact that Punit is still average. I will not say that his concepts are similar to Salman because he has executed all of them in a way that they look different (except maybe the contortion act). But, I feel that he can do much better and still needs to improve. They should be doing something different and unique each time given that they both are professionals and this is what their forte.

I just have to point out one thing. And this is one thing that states who excels in original/innovative/creative choreography

Punit has a different style to him. Themes may be similar, but nothing else is.

So I don't think its fair of you to imply or assume that Punit copies Salman when that is not true and it is definitely NOT true in a dancing POV!

I don't know about the similarity in concept part, coz I didn't quite follow the last season... but i strongly agree with Lauren (a trained dancer) being a part of jhalak unfair. I felt the same last season with Isha. anyways, there is no point saying this. It is what it is.

Salmans choreography was at his best last season...agreed but had Isha helped him in? And will ignore comments like Isha is not a trained dancer... She is a trained contemporary and also excels in aerial's which is what half the time they did last season... She also does international shows...
I want to see Salman get an ordinary dancer who has two left feet like Baichung or some one who is a good dancer but has weight issues like Bharati or an average performer like Chang... A celebrity who needs to be built upon and not like Yana, Isha or DD... If he does wonders then, phir maane...

Punit's choreography is definitely better than Salman's ... Not always but most of the time... I am talking about choreography and not concept... Punit does come up with nice dance moves where as in Salman's choreography all I see is complicated lifts slighty modified which I have seen used on other dance shows...
If it wasnt for Remo, none of these two got the appreciation that they receive today...

I find it telling that everyone agrees that last season belonged to Salman but this season there is a lot of debate whether Punit is the best choreographer - there seem to be many camps - Salman, Tusharr , Punit, possibly Marsicha. In other words if Punit hasn't managed to mesmerize everyone when he has possibly the most trained dancer/choreographer jhalak has ever seen it- well what can I say? The facts speak for themselves.

Firstly, I do agree with you that Salman was at his absolute best last season😊

Regarding Punit, while I second that some of his themes have been similar to Salman's, the choreography is totally different. Just see Salman's horror last season and Punit's in this and the steps are nowhere near same. In fact, Punit and Lauren's horror act was the only performance in this entire season and among all contestants which actually deserved a 30..

I very much agree with your post. 👍🏼

I can see how some may think that both choreograph in a similar way but we cannot say that if one choreographer picks contemporary, then he's doing similar steps as a previous choreographer. All choreographers get inspired by each other and by various places, things and people. Even on jhalak, all of the choreographers use similar steps in their acts. I am not going to write examples as that can cause an anger frenzy but doing the same steps is not to be looked at but the manner by which the steps are done. The same steps can be done by different people and look completely different due to how they are performed. Also, the placement of the steps matters as you can't just haphazardly do a step at a particular point of the act-it has to match the song, the situation and the complete ambiance of the act. I don't think they use similar concepts as the concepts come from a variety of things and I really don't remember Salman doing a daddy's girl, Charlie Chaplin or Kshama Parvana dance. Actually, this is the first time I have ever seen a Kshama Parvana concept (just like the Acrobia act by Salman). I think we should give enough credit to the choreographers to not label that they do similar steps or concepts. Salman is wonderful and now that Punit is showing what he can do with a trained dancer, I have become a Punit fan also as he give such precise steps to the words and theme of the songs (also, I love his song selections).

In the case of Isha-Salman, Isha was trained in contemporary, Kathak and Chhau dance. She had been visible to the Indian public through mainstream movies and dances. The acts they put together were mind-blowing and I don't think anyone can do the yoga positions she can do! Salman used the strengths she has and choreographed dances that showcased both of their abilities.

In the case of Lauren- Punit, Lauren is trained in contemporary and hip-hop. She had low visibility (before jhalak) to the Indian public as her movie (ABCD) is pretty recent and not a lot of people in India knew about her. Punit uses the strengths Lauren has (and stretches her towards other dance styles - Bollywood ..which she had NEVER done..) and now bring us acts that I always look forward to.

If fans say that Isha participation was fine but Lauren's is not, I'd be really disappointed.

In terms of Lauren's participation in jhalak (I hope I never have to write this comment on the jhalak forum again...), some may see it as fair and some may not. To me it's fair because as compared to the other participants, there is a balance as some have a big fan following, some have great visibility in India and some have great dancing skills. Fans of a contestant will never vote for another contestants. Lauren has to garner votes from people by showing her talent as that is the only thing she has to show for. (I'm not sure if I went off topic 😊)

On a selfish note 😉, I'm glad Lauren is a part of the jhalak to showcase her amazing dance skills. 😃

Agree that sexy bollywood dances are done lots of times. Contemporary dances are also done in every dance show (even the ones in the West).
