The 2 hour thing is much better...it won't entirely solve the problem of janta favouritism but atleast it will reduce the problem considerably. It would prevent people from opening voting factories as in the case of Sandeep Acharya (Indian Idol 2) where people were paid to sit in a room all day and vote for him. People voice their opinion within those 2 hours and then voting lines are closed. Finished. Simple.
Sony is so fond of hiding behind the 'We're just following the format' excuse. Well why don't they follow the format properly then? They suddenly forget their precious format when it comes to making money. Seriously BBC and the owners of American Idol etc should sue Sony for not sticking to the contract. If they use the name then they must follow the same rules as specified.
Not saying this only due to JDJ but we have seen it happen time and time again in Indian Idol, Fame Gurukul etc. Sony are breaching the contract that allows them to use the format owned by BBC and the American Idol folks.
